As a Christian, I’d actually like to defend the use of the word “damn” in this song, as that is exactly what pride does, it condemns us by separating us from God, it tells us that we’re enough on our own, that we don’t need anyone or anything else, that we can trust in ourselves. That can’t be further from the truth, though. We’re taught that we _need_ God, that alone we’re stranded in an ocean without a paddle. And as someone who’s been asphyxiated by their own pride before, I can testify that pride does indeed separate us, both from others and from God. That is why God tells us so many times to “humble ourselves” - because we can’t serve both God and our pride.

The cuss word isn't the point (though a word denoting eternal separation from God shouldn't be used so lightly). The theme of the song is worse than many songs by atheists. Just not a good message period.
