Daily Gospel Meditation | Fr. Michael Carlson
Thursday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
    🔶Gospel🔶
    Lk 7:36-50
A certain Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him,
and he entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.
Now there was a sinful woman in the city
who learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee.
Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment,
she stood behind him at his feet weeping
and began to bathe his feet with her tears.
Then she wiped them with her hair,
kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment.
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself,
“If this man were a prophet,
he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him,
    that she is a sinner.”
Jesus said to him in reply,
“Simon, I have something to say to you.”
    “Tell me, teacher,” he said.
    “Two people were in debt to a certain creditor;
one owed five hundred days’ wages and the other owed fifty.
Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both.
Which of them will love him more?”
    Simon said in reply,
“The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven.”
He said to him, “You have judged rightly.”
Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon,
    “Do you see this woman?
When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet,
but she has bathed them with her tears
and wiped them with her hair.
You did not give me a kiss,
but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered.
You did not anoint my head with oil,
but she anointed my feet with ointment.
    So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven;
hence, she has shown great love.
But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”
He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
The others at table said to themselves,
“Who is this who even forgives sins?”
But he said to the woman,
“Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

We need the priests to get into the confessional so we can repent this way. 45 minutes once a week is not enough. Sorry. Some churches don’t offer time to come to confession, what are we to do. I can assure you that if priests enter the confessional we will come. It may take one disaster that affects so many but it’ll come. My dear priest please prepare yourselves, we need you.

I owe God so much for all my sins throughout my life, I'm just simply too scared to ask for such a pardon because I'm not worthy, nor do I understand how to ask our Lord who is perfect and full of Grace to even take upon himself the burden of my sins. It isn't that I don't believe He can do it, I just don't want to trouble Him for a wretch like me.

He paid the debt on the cross, you can receive forgiveness through the sacrament of reconciliation.

@@patrioticacorn I hope that what I said isn't misconstrued as a sign of pride, but more of a sign of compassion, how can any of us ask for such a Grace after all He endured Perhaps I don't understand how to ask for help, but out of love for our Lord I just don't want to trouble Him for more than what He's already been through.

      You must ask Him
He wants you to ask. In fact, He NEEDS you to come to Hom for help.
Don't be proud. You have only Him
It is hard so first ask Him for the Grace.
      God Bless you

Fr. I didn't know holy water and holy Communion pardons venial sins. Is that in the catechism?

    • @patrioticacorn
      @patrioticacorn 21 час назад +6

It's from St. Thomas Aquinas, this is from a UCatholic article
Here are ten things that remit venial sins, according to Aquinas.
Any act that confers the infusion of grace will forgive venial sins:
      1. Receiving the Eucharist
      2. The Seven Sacraments
Any act done in detestation of sin will forgive venial sins:
      3. Recital of the Confiteor
      4. An act of contrition
      5. Beating of the Breast
      6. Saying the Lord’s Prayer
Any act including a movement towards the reverence of God will conduce the remission of venial sins:
      7. A bishop’s blessing
      8. Sprinkling oneself with Holy Water
      9. Any sacramental annointing
      10. Prayer in a dedicated Church

that's why father i have never failed to unite all my pains sufferings sorrows persecutions tears heartaches with Jesus' and the seven sorrows of my queen mama and the holy rosary and other devotional prayers and offer them all in union with the holy sacrifice of the mass said throughout the world every hour in atonement, reparation, penance, mortification, and forgiveness for all my past and present mortal and venial sins although i have done my confessions every first friday of the month but i just want to be sure that im going straight to heaven when i die cuz i cant endure the pains of purgatory and definitely hell is not for me cuz im not a persecutor but a persecuted soul, so hell is not for me. so, since im avoiding purgatory and im spending it here on earth as per St. Faustina's diary, i am doing everything, everything to get straight to heaven when i die even if it means im going to suffer and indeed i have already suffered the greatest sufferings on earth 😁😀🤭🤫 ohhhh father im telling my secret 🤣🤣🤣 but there's one thing that im sure other people will find it hard to do, that is, to be good to others like no hypocrisy, no pretensions, no lies, no pride, no arrogance, no haught, no evil, just goodness in words and deeds, offer alms to the poor, help the needy, etc. so father, im ready to meet my Jesus noooow with the help of my queen mamaaaaaaa 😀💯👍 but of course, im a poor, poor, miserable, wretched sinner so im sure im not doing it perfectly but i've trieeeeed so hard to be perfect but only God is perfect and so i believe father that for every little effort that i have made for God, i know i have great reward 😁🤭🤫 so i say:
    *Jesus, i trust in You.*
Jesus, i love You to folly. - Victim Soul
    Salve Maria. 🙏😇🌷

Eph 2:2 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the [a]course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
