    Excellent review! I purchased the JBL Studio 590's in March when they went on sale. They are big and beastly, as you described, but the manner in which they sound is deceiving. The horn design made me think they would be very "shouty". Having listened to them for months I can say that I am completely impressed with their sound. I find them to be very smooth. Vocals are simply outstanding! Dialogue when watching movies/TV is a also extremely clear. Additionally, listening to them a low levels doesn't take a away from their clarity. When I want to crank them, they have no problem playing at levels that I can only tolerate for short intervals. I am powering them with two channels from an Anthem MCA5 amplifier.

    Great video. I own the RP 150M and just auditioned the 590s. I agree with everything. I found the horn on the JBL to be almost magic, I often heard details way outside the soundstage, but the size and build quality were not acceptable. The price was great, but I wanted higher quality in the long run. Well, that and I found a used pair of Forte before the 590s even shipped. The Klipsch feel much better quality and the RP line is the best value.

    Went to the only HIFI dealer in my country about a week ago to order a pair of RP 600m, and the got a demo of the 8000f and SVS ultra Bookshelfs. The ultras were clear AF and I was going to buy it without even hearing anything else, then they played the 8000f and I fell in love, its currently in my bedroom! Another thing I like is how efficient they are, currently using an SMSL ad18 to drive them and plan to upgrade to the amp later.

    Cool thing about the JBL studio 5 series is that they have a genuine compression driver for the horn. Makes a big difference folks! For Klipsch I think you have to purchase the RF7 or the heritage series to get a real compression driver for the highs.

    The 590's will be sort after and well renowned in 20 years whilst the Klipsch will disappear in amongst the masses because the rf7 are the standouts in this era. These JBL's are special. And not many people will part with them for even more than they paid once they aren't available new anymore. The 6 series are out now. Haven't heard much about the but I'm keen to know how the 698's compare to the 590's. Those in America should jump on the 590's while you still can, I envy you.

The RP-280f has a closed horn baffle design and the newer Klipsch the’ve opened it up. I like the build quality better on the RP-280f’s with the solid wooden plinths and no cheap plastic feet.

    I just bought and set up the JBL 590's They need to be 6 feet apart and towed in about 20-30 degrees sitting 8-10 feet away. Owned all three brands: Cerwin Vega horns, Klipsch horns and JBL within a 30 year time frame. The 590's are the best I've ever heard in a horn speaker. They are butter smooth, no shouting or horn annoyances and the louder you turn them up, the better they sound. Im driving them with a Yamaha P-3500S, 350 wpc@ 8 ohms pro-audio amp. Also, the reviews and rumors you hear that they are good for music only and not for hometheater is bullshit. Movies sound amazing! Gunfire, car chases, explosions etc are clear, precise with a huge soundstage. Buy them before they phase them out. You wont be disappointed...I picked them when they were on sale for a grand. The center channel is also just as good. My only criticism of the center channel is they should be either a two and a half way design or have 6-1/2 inch drivers instead of 4 inch.

    Both are excellent speakers for me,which is better, it is impossible to say. but each one has the signature of the manufacturer:
    Klipsch: Loud with a tendency to highs.

    It is a matter of personal preferences, that is why the best sound is subjective.

    Nice review. Really piques my interest, so many positive opinions, recently, of this new titanium horn driver in this series. I have to admit previous Klipsch horns drive me crazy. But, I might have to look into these as possible replacements for my aging Polk towers in the home theater system. Might be time for a refresh. I like the idea that they can do double duty, music and HT. We shall see. The main system, though, will remain the JBL L80ts from the late '80s early '90s. The home version of the 4410 studio monitors which were quite popular back in the day. On the tube amp, of course! A Chinese integrated, 50 watts x 2. More than enough for the JBLs which are 90db efficient.

    Klipsch 280f is a theater and a concert. Pair it with a Yamaha rxa880, 👍. Not an audiophile speaker but I'm an audiophile and I like it. It's exactly what I want for a movie and for amazement and thrills.
    It doesn't need to be cleanest, that's not the goal of the Klipsch. It is powerful yet never fatiguing. Their character is big, bold, strong, impactful, full of emotion. Voices are powerful, even female vocals sound big and powerful. I like that for a theater speaker for pure enjoyment. Effects on Klipsch are another level than I ever heard. Not the cleanest but definitely knock your socks off.

    • @Cblan1224
      @Cblan1224 3 года назад

      @@ericmann1781 they have plenty of range. I upgraded center speakers a bunch of times before landing on the 504c. I highly recommend at least the 404c. The woofer, tweeter, woofer horizontal arrangement is for looks alone and as far as audio goes, it's a design flaw. An example of a properly designed center is the svs ultra center where the tweeter is on top of a midwoofer and 2 woofers on the side.
      The 404 and 504 are still good because they have a 2.5way crossover. They are a significant upgrade over any rp400-600. For your room, that 404c should be perfect.
      I have the rp 6000s and 504c and have redone all of their crossovers. If I had to do it over, I would not get klipsch speakers. They look nice, but the entire RP line has a dip in crossover response.
      The crossover design is so weird. This was highlighted by Danny over at gr research.
      Before buying any klipsch speakers, I highly recommend watching all of his videos on all the klipsch speakers he has designed crossovers for.
      Instead of spending a bunch of money and a LOT of time DIYing those crossovers, I might as well have just gotten some of the flat packs for DIY speakers that GR research makes. I would've spent the same amount of money and had a substantially better speaker.
      I'm not trying to scare you off..those are some amazing speakers I just mentioned.
      Would I rather have gotten any more expensive pair? No, because now I have replaced my $4 klipsch crossover with $1-200 worth in parts and now my front 3 are batting way out of their league. It's interesting to have a klipsch speaker that isn't "hot" in the tweeter. Its neutral now after the change, and it is incredible. It brought the good things about my front 3 speakers to life, it really did. Before it was either too much tweeter or too much bass...thats just how the RP line measures with the factory crossover. That's not acceptable in my opinion. The 504c and 404c are the only ones that have maybe...$6...$8 crossovers maybe. They measure a lot better.
      Look I'm trying to give you as much info as possible before you buy, because most of us who are really into this hobby with someone had done the same for us. Luckily for me, I found a fix with Danny at GR research offering upgrade kits to use high quality parts and upgrade bracing/damping materials inside the cabinets. The upgrade kit for the 504c was 209. For the rp8000 it is 359. I don't remember any other ones off the top of my head.
      DIY is definitely the way to go, if you can
      Sorry, that was long, and not what you wanted to hear.

    Hi Tharbamar
    I like you review but you have to be aware that 70-80% of sound quality comes from the room and looking at you place I'm convinced it sounds no so good (samples you presented confirm that). You have bare walls and
    floor tiles, highly reflective surfaces. The reverbation time could be more than 1s I suppose. The recommendation for T60 for the listening rooms should be less than 500ms. So if you want to enjoy high fidelity music please add some room treatments (absorbers and diffusers).
    On YT you can find some samples before and after to see how hudge the effect is. You will be amazed.
    Good work!!

    • @Tharbamar
      @Tharbamar  5 лет назад +7

      Thank you for the tip but but you don't see the 3/4 of the room because fully furnished with big area rug that you can't see in the video and the room is not badly echoing and lively as it look because you have to listen to original song for comparison.
      Coming from pro audio recording background, I do know a thing or two about acoustics but what is the point of auditioning and reviewing the speakers in treated room because this demo/review is trying to show/know how the speakers will sound on average room because most people will use them in untreated room and modern speaker are design with that in mind.
      If I do audition them in a treated room I would not know how the speakers will perform in average room.
      Thank you for your comment.

    Awesome review!!! I guess the open tweeter have reduce the brightness that fatigue.
    Now I'm curious if an upgraded crossover parts will bring more clarity, detail and definition.

    • @Len_M.
      @Len_M. 4 года назад

      My guess is most of the change is in the Crossover. Coming from mostly the Car Audio World, Metal Dome Tweeters are bright by definition. You can “tame” the Aluminium/Titanium, etc, Tweeters by using the -3dB, 0dB, +3dB on the Crossovers (assuming you aren’t running Active). Most People who like a more laid back Sound use Silk Dome Tweeters. Another thing about the Crossover is what “Order” they are using and how steep the Crossover point is, and what Slope it’s rolled off at, -6dB, -12dB, -24dB.

    COULDNT AGREE MORE ABOUT THE CLASSICAL MUSIC ON THE 590! Heck, I now listen to Harp and piano which just sounds spectator! Just found Hans Zimmer stuff!🤪🤪🥳 I mean WOW!😝Pefect reference type sound/music material! I do have a question because you have the same Denon AVR which I use with my 590`s🤓 Do you hear a great sound difference when you use your larger Parasound Amp you have? 🤑 I am considering going larger/upscale. 🤔 I use my 3801 in pure direct mode. It's about 180 watts into the 6 ohm's. The speakers are said to be able to take and flourish with a higher quality front end! I am also currently using the 3801 dac which seems to sound great but I suppose in the 18 years there is much better?🤔🙄🤪🤓 Thanks!

      With separates it does have a little more control on the bass region but sound stage is smaller with my Parasound Halo combo, Yamaha A-S1100 and up will be better for your need in my opinion with separate DAC.

    从外形设计上看JBL比kilpsch更符合声学原理,kilpsch为了美观做了妥协。首先JBLstudio590的箱体容积更大意味着容纳的空气更多,同时为了使低音的呼吸更自然JBL有两个导向孔可以使空气快速进出。klipsch也考虑了这个问题做了一个导向孔但是是方形的,理论上面积大一些相对一个原先个导向孔但是还是没有jbl的大!JBL的箱体做了声学设计向后收敛。从这两种设计看JBL的声音中低音肯定会更自然!

      Ls50 is almost holographic imaging as great sound stage. I prefer the Kef r300 better though. If you want amazing imaging and accurate natural sounds go with kef ls50 or the rs300. If you want loud and slightly bright....go klipsch. I do have 1 extra note......jamo is a speaker brand out of Denmark. They were actually bought by klipsch and price to price sound way better in way of articulate listening. They love power. I own the jamo c607. I have friends who have bought R7 and other klipsch speakers and all of them agree the Jamos are levels better. Infact a few of them purchased the same ones. If I had to do it over I would go with the c97. I promise you will blow your friends away assuming you have plenty of clean high current watts to send them.
