    WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LOOKING MAN HE WAS . My goodness, forget the Clark Gables , and Tyrone Powers . Ronald Reagan who worked in Hollywood as an actor once described Errol as the most beautiful piece of machinery he had ever seen . Errol was also very talented and I think his talent was under rated because of that amazing face and body he had . Errol's name and fame just went into the Stratosphere with his very first film , 'Captain Blood ". Easy to see why !

      As is generally recognised, the scene in 'The Sun also Rises' where Errol, in his hotel room, raises his glass to Tyrone Power and says "Bung Ho old chap' and after Power leaves, puts his face in his hands, rubs them up and down and for one of the first times in his life, puts himself, nay shows himself, as the dissolute individual he has become. Thanks Errol, I have followed you from Robin Hood...

    I am a fan of Errol Flynn. I have been for years. Many of his movies, especially the action movies are among my favorites. I did recently see the movie "Uncertain Glory" I had seen it a very long time ago but this latest time I find there is something in Errol akin to his character, and toward the end, something special, that might have been a quality Errol might have identified with. No doubt about his action movies being a big part of his bests. "Uncertain Glory" deserves a second look. I just feel he has been so underrated. Too bad.

    I remember the comment, "in like Flynn", and I am almost certain it refers to Errol Flynn. He had charisma and few men had it, my father had it and dated two Hollywood starlets one in the 1940's and one in the 1970's. My father could walk in a room and women would flock to his side married or not. I was always amazed how my mother took it so well when women would swoon over my father who looked like Tony Curtis when he was younger. He kept his charm and good looks and at his funeral six women were crying and none of them were my mother.

    • @johnhardman3
      @johnhardman3 5 лет назад +3

      We don't seem to have any actors in pictures today, at least none that have any personality or charisma: even the movies are junk, for the most part, just noise and "special effects". All the old talent (directing/acting/camera-work/incidental-music/lighting...) that the old studios had "on tap" has utterly gone and, for the most part, has been forgotten.

    I'm utterly entranced by Errol Flynn. I'm really glad he made westerns. His calm steady demeanor in those films was a perfect fit for the genre.
    Footsteps in the Dark co-star Ralph Bellamy recalled Flynn as "a darling. Couldn't or wouldn't take himself seriously."
    What a great compliment.

At the age fo 14 we children worked 49 hours a week and could not wait for Saturday night or Sunday afternoon for another Errol Flynn movie. We had 2 groups in town (Tyron Power or Errol Flynn). Errol Flynn won always hands down. That was in my youth in Germany. Today, my son supplies me with Errol Flynn CVDs but not all are available.

    Flynn was a fantastic actor, stunningly handsome, a loving father, and a genuine bon vivant. Unfortunately, he was also a libertine, an alcoholic and an incessant womanizer with a scandalous preference for underage girls. His lifestyle almost certainly contributed to his tragically early death at just 50.

    Your father's film " Uncertain Glory " is a masterpiece - and even more so, demonstrates his intelligence as I see he himself chose it to produce for his company. The story of redemption is an archetypal theme like " Crime & Punishment " and " Uncertain Glory " is up there with it where it deserves to rank and to be. " Uncertain Glory " is one of the most moving films, and it is very true of human nature - the flippant playboy like a lot of us men wanted to be and made an attempt at being when we were young and yet sees there is something deeper in himself when the time of his reckoning comes - a fact of life maybe - and Errol must have been a very deep man indeed to have that need to find something deeper in life like that that gave it meaning. The film certainly did/does that for me, and like " Crime & Punishment " is ( film ) literature and has gone a long way to try to give us insight as to why we are here. I'm glad he made it and " Cuban Rebel Girls " which I can see is an attempt to say something deeper about politics. He was a writer.
