- Today we're watching Sicario for the first time.
This was a great, action packed crime thriller with some really tense scenes.

I think the reason people in movies and TV just ask for a “beer” or some other generic drink, is because the producers want to avoid the product endorsement aspect and complications of naming a specific brand.

As a bartender someone rarely just walks up and says give me a beer, they usually have a particular brand in mind. However if they did ask for just "a beer" I would ask what kind or suggest whatever we were promoting or trying to push
Thanks for the answer. I've been wondering about that for quite a while. Walking into a bar and asking for two beers seems like the same thing as walking into a bookstore and saying "give me two paperbacks".
