Those lights are the rpm warning lights (Green to red lights) also called shift indicator lights. Also: keep in mind this is a demo lap. He didn't go all out around all of the turns. He said this was about 80% of the actual race pace
@@nothernmonkey8612 yup. I have no clue how they can ride with the gears reversed. I would screw that up and ruin the gear box. 1d and 5u is all I've ever been on.
The look of pure joy on your face is wonderful especially when he hit that red line. This circuit is just over 37 miles long, one lap is roughly the same as 15 laps of the Daytona International Speedway. What you see on the screen is exactly what the rider can see, basically nothing when riding (at over 100mph) into the sun. Those red and green lights are the Rev counter showing the red line. The bike vibrates so much they can't see the dashboard so lights are easier to see. This was an "exhibition" lap where he's on an unfamiliar bike and allowed out on the circuit to see what it feels and handles like. Basically he's out 'playing' with a new toy so he's NOT pushing the limits here. He's just messing around on a 220mph motorbike. One year a race team fitted distance measuring tools, one to the front wheel and one to the rear wheel just to see what happens. The final numbers were crazy! The rear wheel measured a distance well over a mile MORE than the official lap distance as it was losing grip and spinning out as they slammed the power down. The front wheel was measured at over a mile LESS that the official circuit distance as it spent a lot of time off the ground due to power wheelies.
@JHalvy2112 These guys have raced these roads for many many years to the point they know the track by instinct not knowledge. I did put a bit more facts on the previous TT video you posted but this is a subject well worth researching. You need to check out the Sidecar races they do over that same 2 weeks. These guys are even crazier than the bikes!
Just to add the TT runs for two weeks, practice and then race week. The final race called The Senior TT is six laps, with riders being able to choose the category of bike to race on, out of all the categories they’ve ridden across the meet. This leads to some interesting match ups of machinery. The Senior TT is 6 laps. Loved the video and your reaction, thanks for sharing. Hope you get to go one day :-)))
I've lost count of how many times I've watched this clip. I even have it on my mobile. I have been riding since 1986 and I still get excited watching Isle of Man TT. My favourite event in motorsports. Cheers mate!!
This is some of the best racing I've ever seen.. I'm not a big TV guy never really ever was so a lot of this stuff I never even knew the footage existed. Sure having fun right now I was just watching it in my heart was beating out of my chest

Yep there is a few times Hicky looks slightly to his left , while wheeling so you can she his shadow going over the mountain 18.10 as an example and before also .
It's crazy to think that at full race pace he shaves two and a half minutes off of this lap time. In a comment above or below I reference a new video of Peter's recent lap record. The onboard footage is even more breathtaking 🇬🇧🤘🤘
Wow. Just read this was the first time he'd ridden this bike. I can't imagine averaging 118mph over a 37.7 mile course as a way to break in a new bike. Apparently race pace can reach 136mph average with a top speed of 220mph. How the hell do you memorize 200 corners? Max respect to these blokes.🇬🇧🤘🤘

The wheelies are produced by torque and the bumpy hilly course a light powerful bike under hard acceleration will want to wheelie the bumbs and crests on this course just provide more fuel to the fire. The lights are just rpm and shift change indicators

back in the day my mate rode bikes, cars, sidecars, rally . i went around bathurst with him in a souped up 62 holden , was scary as hell. then from bathurst to sofala on dirt roads mainly sideways. then on the back of his racing bike on suburban road , 200+ kmh. then he braked hard and side to side. then tragedy struck he was at parramatta speedway , he made a slight error , his passenger was killed. he never recovered . he became a photographer. the crazy part he was 5' 1 both ways a lil barrel but fearless until he lost it. oh yeah one day on his bike he broke the lap record for oran park raceway twice in 20 minutes. never judge a book by its cover.!
Out of all the American bike racers past and present only one has ever won the TT. Dave Roper is currently the only American to win a TT Race using conventional internal combustion engine power; the Historic TT of 1984. Riding a G50 Matchless he headed home the field in the only time this class of race has been run. Dave has also finished runner-up twice in the Senior Classic Manx Grand Prix, in 1988 and 1990. As for the circuit, it is 37.730 miles, and the really quick guys can do it in under 18 minutes, and they do 6 laps for their time. As for fuel, the TT racers use VP Racing fuel, it is an American company founded in Texas.

search for 'Fastest EVER Lap of the Isle of Man TT | Peter Hickman - 136.358mph', from this year. Another bike POV that really puts this 'relatively' slow lap into perspective !
I'm a motorcycle guy (Triumph Speedmaster) and this track scares the bejeezus out of me every time I see it. I mean. I'd love to have a lap or two there, but guaranteed I'd be bringing up the tail. There have been many deaths here on this track. I tried counting them on Wikipedia. I got up to the 50's (deaths) and I was only up to the 1950's. Stopped counting after that it was too depressing. Peter Hickman was (probably) riding his BMW S 1000RR here. The Isle of Man track is about 37 miles long.....(that's right......not a typo)
Hicky has another on board lap with multiple cameras ! You really get to see how hard the bike works on one lap , imagine after six . With just two pit stops for fuel and rear tire .
I always wanted guy Martin to win - I was hoping dean harrison to win a race this year but man michael was on top top form - do a little research on joey Dunlop - a very well known and respected name of the island, shout out for David jefferies also 👍
My brother is up to speed on the Isle of Man he knows a lot about it and was telling me about the Dunlop family. Very interesting I will definitely check out a bunch more. Thank you for your time I do appreciate it
Getting the track down enough for these speeds takes long! Very long. I like risking my neck sometimes but this is mental. I could see how one could be addicted for life.

its a bmw m1000rr around 200 - 230 brake horsepower at the back wheel a lap is 37 an 3 quarter miles to qualify you have to do a certain amount of laps on that machine too qualify i believe its 5 laps qualify the superbike the rider isnt going for lap time hes going for laps completed if that makes sense
As I watch this on my mobile, I was thinking what a lovely ceiling you have and that expanse of russet walling could do with a boar head or two. By the way, do you know that down in the left hand corner, you have a video running that is taking up a ninth of the whole screen, which on my mobile equates to 2"x1.25".
This was just a Promo Lap on an BMW , watch His record Lap on His own Bike ... will take your breath . TT-Drivers dont have an Backseat , because they'r sitting on Big Balls and got their Angels on the Shoulders . They know every inch of the Track , if doesnt ... it's over
This is an average 118mph lap. He has just broken the lap record with a 136.3mph lap. That is available on youtube and is absurd but you may not get a reaction through
@JHalvy2112 Here m8 I came across as a bit of a dick with that last comment. I wasn't trying to impugne Harleys, all I was meaning was that until you've ridden something like these bikes, it doesn't make sense. Not only are they ludicrously fast, the handling is sublime. Look where you want to go, that's where the bike goes. I have an old Yamaha R1. It has 150bhp. These bikes are brand new and 220bhp. It must feel incredible. So sorry for appearing like a twat, it wasn't my intention but it is something that I seem to accomplish on a regular basis!
@@timranachan3224 No worries Tim. Honestly mate I was having a bit of a day myself and can come of as an Ass. My apologies and pardon me for short response and my attitiude. . Good folks like you and I realize that and make it better, like we just did. Life is good. Take care mate. G'day
The light are shift lights same as race cars They say there not thinking of the corner their taking but 2 or 3 a head where the bike needs to be on road and objects for markers To ride like this they've normally been racing for several years as they say you slowly get faster every lap and only do about 5 I think and have to refuel as do like 2 or 3 laps before needing fuel ⛽ by then their exhausted physically these are estimates Most are extreme adrenaline junkies and can't live without it live is to boring this makes them feel alive and why alot retire come back as it's life for them and some of them die after coming back but can't live a normal life like the rest of us This is why you seen in the other one the wife had excepted her husband's death and didn't stop him from doing it or want the race stopped As one said they just look to do something else jump out of planes climb mountains without safety rope it's part of who they are and without it their not the same cheerful person If you notice their on back wheel most of the time even in the straights and I think bike rpm is 20 or 22,000 at full throttle and as far as I know not turbocharged just highly engineered running gear If look up Guy Martin documentary on his crash one was because engine failure locked up chucking him and bike down the road I love riding bikes but not like that it's why I ride a Harley Just cruise down the road on a lounge chair Used to ride dirt bikes when younger plenty of falls but to many obstacles on the road Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Okay the song is called moving on and the band is called Missouri. Kind of a one hit wonder but where I was raised in the late seventies and '80s Missouri and the band shooting star from the Kansas City area where badass. We also had the band Kansas from Topeka Kansas all great area bands. Thank you for your interest and asking. Take care
It's amazing to me they can flat out go with that rate and know every single turn every little bump every little niche of the course. Impressive crazy and brave

Sure that was under 17 minutes as well?
Mike The Bike Hailwood won the TT 10 times in a row retired then came back10 years later and won it again. lights across the top are shift lights
The different classes are different length races. Sidecars do 3 laps. Solos do between 4 and 6 laps (152 miles or 226 miles)

I think they say the front tyre does about 2 miles less than the back tyre over the lap because the front is just hovering off the tarmac
It's also amazing how often the back wheel is off the ground too. You can hear it rev out and see the sudden maxed out reds on the shift lights
Absolutely I can see it happening man that makes perfect sense
No turbo. Lights show revs and changeup points i think.

There you will feel the fascination ‼️🏆
That was a great interesting column you wrote and I appreciate you taking the time to do so. I am fascinated by this race and the men that race it. I will definitely check that video out thank you mate
You are in for a Treat wen you dig it to the Isle of Man TT, Best racing in the World!
They have a week of practice then a week of competition up to 8 races in all
its a bmw m1000rr around 200 - 230 brake horsepower at the back wheel a lap is 37 an 3 quarter miles to qualify you have to do a certain amount of laps on that machine too qualify i believe its 5 laps qualify the superbike the rider isnt going for lap time hes going for laps completed if that makes sense
190 mile a hour in some place's it's 37.5 miles long .
And this was just an exhibition lap, showing off doing wheelies lol. Imagine what a real race lap is like 😮
hickys dad dave was a top runner in the sheene era.
Each lap is 37 miles at an average speed of 130 mph top speed of 205mph
Going faster on a practice lap than a lot of people go in the races.
On this bike when he's hitting the rev limiter he's almost doing 200 mph
Normally aspirated 1000cc in line 4-cylinder. 220bhp ish.
No mate,, you come off while going through the hamlets,, your toast.
How good a ride ....lol it broke the lap record with an average speed of 136 mph thats over 220 mph in places.
Think i"ll catch a taxi😁
This was just a Promo Lap on an BMW , watch His record Lap on His own Bike ... will take your breath . TT-Drivers dont have an Backseat , because they'r sitting on Big Balls and got their Angels on the Shoulders . They know every inch of the Track , if doesnt ... it's over
No Turbo BTW
If you prefer 4 wheels take a look at WRC Rally 👍
Strange the Equality gang steer well clear of the TT, who would have thought it.
Right
This was just a demo lap he did. He went a lot faster on the race :)
This is an average 118mph lap. He has just broken the lap record with a 136.3mph lap. That is available on youtube and is absurd but you may not get a reaction through
I raced there back in the late 60s he is not really trying just having fun if you notice really no late breaking as in the race
It did look like he was having a good time
Since the race first began there have been over 260 deaths including spectators
Thank you for the comment but that sucks man. They know what they're getting into
Peter hitman is the fastest man on the track right now .
the thing here is he is not pushing it
And dont forget this is a demolap, he isnt going at race speed here,he is taking it easy on the corners,
They corner on two wheels an elbow a knee cap and a foot peg
I think you just summed it up pretty damn well
it is 6 laps each lap is 37 miles
Take a look at "TT Onboard with Milky Quayle", to understand what it actually takes to master that 37.73 mile lap... six times.
Absolutely. I want to see all that TT I can that is some crazy fun dangerous racing I pray for all the Riders as I watch
You've ridden Harleys my friend. No disrespect, these bikes to Harleys are Stearman trainers to F16s.
Different strokes.
No shit. I know that and mentioned it. Harley is a cruising bike for the most part. No comparison.
G'day
@@OccasionalOutlaw Sweet. 👍
one tiny mistake and you are splat! This is insane!
This is actually just a demo lap and not really a full on attack
Last year hicky was sponsored by GAS MONKEY GARAGE the paint job was great GAS MONKEY GARAGE have RUclips videos where they went to the isle of man TT
I think I remember that show weren't they out of like Dallas Texas? I will take a peek at that
if You have everything under control You're to slow 😁
Right
The top guys will tell they only go 90/95 % it's not short circuit
Notice this is not a full speed lap.
The light are shift lights same as race cars
They say there not thinking of the corner their taking but 2 or 3 a head where the bike needs to be on road and objects for markers
To ride like this they've normally been racing for several years as they say you slowly get faster every lap and only do about 5 I think and have to refuel as do like 2 or 3 laps before needing fuel ⛽ by then their exhausted physically these are estimates
Most are extreme adrenaline junkies and can't live without it live is to boring this makes them feel alive and why alot retire come back as it's life for them and some of them die after coming back but can't live a normal life like the rest of us
This is why you seen in the other one the wife had excepted her husband's death and didn't stop him from doing it or want the race stopped
As one said they just look to do something else jump out of planes climb mountains without safety rope it's part of who they are and without it their not the same cheerful person
If you notice their on back wheel most of the time even in the straights and I think bike rpm is 20 or 22,000 at full throttle and as far as I know not turbocharged just highly engineered running gear
If look up Guy Martin documentary on his crash one was because engine failure locked up chucking him and bike down the road
I love riding bikes but not like that it's why I ride a Harley
Just cruise down the road on a lounge chair
Used to ride dirt bikes when younger plenty of falls but to many obstacles on the road
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Great stuff David. Love the stories. Same here. Harley guy for years. Dirt bikes as a kid. These bikes are crazy fast, but perform well.
How on earth do they remember all the corners ?
Right. Exactly. That's what I thought.
Not race pace that was an exhibition lap
What’s the intro song?
Okay the song is called moving on and the band is called Missouri. Kind of a one hit wonder but where I was raised in the late seventies and '80s Missouri and the band shooting star from the Kansas City area where badass. We also had the band Kansas from Topeka Kansas all great area bands. Thank you for your interest and asking. Take care
Remembering all 200 corners must be tough. Miss one corner and you are a goner
Right
Think circuit is about 33 miles? Makes one wonder how anyone other than the most experienced IOM riders could really “know” the track?
It's amazing to me they can flat out go with that rate and know every single turn every little bump every little niche of the course. Impressive crazy and brave
top speed is 200 plus mph
That's just his easy lap watch his fast lap from the race from this year you can find it easily
he is english
thats not flat out either
TT Titanium Testicles 😉
LMAO
Yep. Balls of steel doesn't quite cut it for this job.
This what they call "wringing its neck"
You need to watch the sidecars at the TT...those guys are certifiably insane, great watch though.
Absolutely got to check those guys out thank you
