Wow! This is definitely useful for my preparation of the upcoming game jam i'm participating in. As a perfectionist, most of the time i prioritize detail over the core function of anything, not just games. The 4th mistake is what i often do on many of my projects, which ended up taking way longer than it should. Thanks a lot, my dude! I appreciate it Btw, could you give me some game jams that were held last year, so i can play some of the games that were made to see what i'm really dealing with, especially as a game designer?
yeah for sure! You can take a look at the GMTK Game Jam, he's a youtuber who mostly analyzes game design and also PirateSoftware which he has a bunch of game jams done! Cheers
I disagree. I do think that design doc in game jam context is a waste of time. Making said document will do nothing if the real problem is planning and following the plan. But if it helps organize your thoughts, then good for you
I'm actually writing my first GDD as we speak for the PirateSoftware Game Jam. So far it helps me develop my ideas and have a better idea of how I will have to manage my time to achieve my goal, but yeah at the end of the day there's no line written yet!
I can't be the only one who made these mistakes. Comment here what mistakes you learned from!
