Emma was "stunned" because Lulu Sun played superior tennis, smart tennis, fearless tennis and aggressive tennis. Lulu played smartly by coming into the net on every opportunity when Emma was running to the ball to defend.
I'm not. Wimbledon laid out a rather easy path for her. When I saw her side of the bracket I assumed she'd make a deep run. Glad to see she's still a choke artist.
Bit of luck involved. First of all that Alexandrova withdrew. Would have been early exit for Emma. And then that 1st round veteran Sakkari survived 2 rounds (!!) and Emma was in her bracket.
I'm kind of glad she didn't because the first mixed doubles match would have been last night and if she'd played, she would have surely blamed today's singles loss on that, but now she has no one to blame but herself. For the best really.
Lulu's game is made for this surface: short, compact, uncomplicated back swings and a lot of variety. She has powerful ground strokes on both sides, a slice back hand, a pretty good net game, an awareness of when to approach the net and a pretty good serve. I really enjoyed watching her play. I also like Paolini and Rybakina. I'm not much of a fan of baseliners, whose games never seem to evolve.
Sun had 44 unforced errors to only 21 from Raducanu, but the difference was Sun came to the net 28 times and won 23 of those and Raducanu only came to net 7 times and won only 3 of those. This is grass ladies, the player that can get to the net first and control it is going to win. Learn to play serve and volley like they used to at Wimbledon.

Honestly this match proved Emma had no soreness and just withdrew from mix doubles for her singles career. I don't know much about tennis, but tactically, Lulu variety of directional placement, moving Emma around the court, may have been the game plan, and them power shots, WOW..Emma flat-footed & bewildered.. the 2nd set may have caused Lulu to get too far ahead of herself and maybe tried too hard to close it out after a stroll in the park 1st, or Emma was on the comeback...I maybe wrong in thinking the fall may have been cause for concern for Emma in the 3rd , but I may be right in believing that it was Lulus time to shine in the Sun..Pleasing Victory Lulu..
I was surprised by Lulu's game. She has a complete game, which is kind of rare in women's tennis. During a match, so few of them will ever make more than 2 appearances at the net.
OK, Lulu Sun has no prior victories that can be measured as great as what she did today. She is ranked 123 for very good reason and ranking is a measure of consistency in 52 weeks of a year. She did not play the FO because she lost the last qualifying match to a player than ranked much lower than her, she only won 3 games. What is stunning is the result she got in the past week, she made it past the qualify round then beat No.8 seed in first round, managed to beat Zhu Lin and Raducanu. She is playing a game that we are not expecting from someone ranked 123 in the world. That is what is stunning about her. When I watched her match against Zhu Lin, it was stunning to see she actually save 15 out of 18 break points she faced in the match, she played way better on these pressure points for someone with her ranking. Her game is daring.
She’s not that good, her opponent choked on the pressure and media circus because she pulled out of a charity mixed doubles match. I just said What everyone was thinking.
Sun is ranked 123. Raducanu is ranked 135. With that logic, both Raducanu and Sun should of lost their matches because they both beat players that are in the top 50. How was it expected for Sun to win? I expected a close match with Sakkari and Raducanu but it wasn't. Again I was expecting a close match with Sun and Raducanu and I was right. Sun played a more aggressive match and I turned out to make a bet with Sun to win.

Because of injuries Lommy :) her wrist started to play up after the operation last year, and her back was affecting her serve. Seems like a wise choice - and Andy has also had to make tough decisions in the past so I guess he will learn to live with it.
Lulu- the product of a Croatian father and Chinese mother, was born in New Zealand and raised in Switzerland. She will crack the Top 10 next year if she keeps up this level of play.
Emma does not have enough experience going deep into tournaments in semi-finals and finals. She cannot say "been there, done that" to herself . Even winning ITF titles will give her that valuable experience.
