Can't thanks you enough for this video. My Minivan leaked oil on my brother=in-laws pristine concrete driveway. I tried the liquid laundry detergent with limited results. After watching this video, I went to HD and bought the Rust-Oleum Concrete Cleaner. Even without the elbow grease, it disappeared that stain. So well that the B-in-L never even noticed the stain was gone!
And it’s even more strange, this video popped up on my recommended right after I finish pressure washing my driveway, with a straight shot pressure washer, not the version they have, it took hours
Powdered laundry detergent works pretty well - sprinkle it on the stain, then just moisten it, then leave it. Hose it of, while scrubbing -seems to work faster than the liquid stuff. Also effective for finding any cuts you may have on your hands... I'm amazed that the adhesive on the tape survived the ordeal! That's damn good tape.
We always poured gas on it, scrub and let it evaporate then powdered detergent, bleach and a little water and scrub and rinse. It not only cleaned the oil stain but but made the whole area look brand new. Gas by itself gets about 90 percent of the oil stain but it looks light brown not black, and it only costs like 5 dollars for a whole gallon.
dude i love powdered laundry soap for cleaning my hands. Works so much better than Fast Orange/Purple Power/Dawn/. Its like $13 for a bucket of soap and cleans my hands perfectly.
What I do to get grease stains off the driveway is to wait at least a day before rain is in the forcast, and use a stiff brush to wet the area then poor dawn dish soap, scrub it in and let the rain rinse it all away. Works like a charm!
IF he swaps it, I think a Volvo 5 cylinder would be AWESOME. Great vid guys - I actually had a wood oil stain on my nice white pavers and was freaking out - went the laundry detergent option - plenty of scrubbing - every 15mins over the half hour - boiled water from the kettle to wash off and looks brand new! Great stuff!
interestingly, the company that makes backrete has a video for it that not only shows them using a second application, but the results aren’t even that great, honestly worse than the tide or rustoleum.
Worked on the construction of a professional grade gokart race track and the track engineer used Tide on the small drops of oil that dripped off construction equipment and vehicles. He was crazy picky. Tide liked a charm.
Can also use basic mud/grout mixes for tile. Get the white one and powder the whole area, let it sit overnight on a dry night. And wash away in the morning and itll all be white or gray or whatever color you choose!
Thank you guys so much for this video, really saved me before my parents got home. Laundry detergent was great. Just so y’all know the pods work too I had to use those just cut them open. Y’all are saving people’s lives out here
I take a huge bottle of dawn and coat the oil stains. I just leave it and let the rain eventually wash it away. I had a huge oil leak a while back and i washed what I could. After, I coated the whole area with a thin layer of dawn dish soap. It sat there for weeks until it finally rained. Maybe 8 weeks. It came out more beautiful then the rest of my driveway. Awesome video.
My Dad was pouring gas into the carb of a 66 Mustang when it backfired and caught the cup on fire. He set it on the driveway and the flaming gas started down towards Mom's station wagon. We all freaked out and threw dirt on it to extinguish the flames. Later Mom saw the clean spot burned through the perpetual oil stain and said that we should have used more of whatever we had put on that clean spot. We never did tell her we almost incinerated her Caprice. Good times!
Even an episode like this, is honeslty 10x more interesting to me at this point than all the other videos. They just feels like lists and kinda boring. I feel like things actually happen on this show.
@@nineisalso6237 You only need to douse it with water to dilute it and you don't need a lot of muratic acid to clean an entire driveway. 1 cup of acid in a 10 gallon bucket is safe. And if you're that worried about it, mixing another bucket of water with baking soda right behind it is enough to completely neutralize the acid. Muratic acid is used in pool cleaning. Theres a lot of DIY garage epoxy coatings that recommend using muratic acid to rough up the concrete flooring just enough to allow the epoxy to grab onto the pores of the concrete for a lasting finish. Pure concentrate of it is what will kill you - even from the fumes. If you use proper PPE and follow the instructions - it won't even kill your grass.
Best thing to use to clean any concrete surface is a mixture of water, bleach, and a little bit of dawn dish soap. it kills sap. algae, mold, mildew which is most of the stains on driveways. The dawn soap acts as a surfactant to help keep the bleach on the surface and also helps clean off oil and grease

I've seen backrete (or similar) applied to a fresh oil spill during a motorcycle race. It literally ate up the oil and the riders were cornering through it. Maybe it's not suitable for dried up oil idk
Update: Just went out and purchased some concrete degreaser (like the Rustoleum), some WD-40 industrial degreaser, some laundry detergent, and some brushes/squeegee. Thanks for the inspiration Donut!!
try Trafic Film Remover (thats what its called in teh UK anyways) its DIRT cheap and I use it to degrease my garage twice a year, and my garage is an actual working garage.
I used to work as a mechanic and the best thing that I found for oil and grease was Castrol Super Clean. Comes in a purple jug, you can buy it just about anywhere that sells engine oil (Autozone, Oreilleys, even Walmart). It’s cheap, it smells like something that would definitely kill you if you drank it (so you know it works), it’s supposedly biodegradable, and it works miracles on oil. We would use it to clean the concrete floors in the shop. I suspect it’s probably similar to the Rustoleum stuff they used, but it seems to be more readily available.

The cheapest, most effective, effortless option is coating the concrete with a clear smooth coat, it prevents the leak from getting into the concrete, it's way easier to clean, you have to do it once every couple decades if you take care of it, and looks awesome and professional.
The bacterial product failure is probably due to the age of the stain. I suspect that it’s less effective on older stains because sunlight (uv spectrum) would neutralize the elements the bacteria would need to feed on.
Doubt it. Theyre about informing people and yeah they make money but clearly not much if they're having to still room with two other guys and share a one-car garage.
I was taking a break power washing my driveway and thought to find some tips. You guys are hilarious and very fun. Who knew that cleaning the driveway could be entertaining??
I've always just used kitty litter. My dad taught ne this. We've never had a cat, but always had kitty litter in the garage, lol. And of course, I just changed my oil and spilled a bit, so I rewatched this. I think the backcrete could have worked better if it was worked into the stain more woth hour feet, that's how I've always used the kitty litter. Sprinkle kitty litter on stain. Scrub it into the concrete with feet so that it breaks into a powder, filling all the pours. Allow to absorb the oil for about 30 minutes, and then sweep up. The backcrete got wet, and I think that might have been a problem too. But great video guys!!
I remember doing my first ever oil change in the street infront of my parents house and nobody informed me that the oil catcher was broken so I unknowingly spilled oil diagonally down the driveway and had to furiously scrub it off before my parents got home. Luckily fresh oil stains come out fairly easily with dish soap.
Though I love my Tide for laundry, I'd use Dawn! It works for everything! Spilled oil all over my pants! They were new! I put Dawn on the oil, and threw them in the washer. Came out stain free!
I skimmed through 5 other driveway cleaning videos for some info. Meant to skim through this one as well, but found myself watching it, because it was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be.
This came just in time for me to clean my driveway this weekend. Thanks lads! Honestly great ep. Some people may think its a pointless ep but for those of us who rent this is great
If you are able to react to the spoil while its still fresh, you can put cat litter down on top and spread and turn it over a bunch. The litter actually absorbs the oils and leaves your garage/driveway floor clean. Super cheap and good for a lot of cleanups, before it dries of course lol.
I wish I read your comment 1 hour ago. I was changing my cars oil and some spilled so I just scrubbed it with hot water and dawn soap. Didn’t do much.😅
oh good lord i remember when i did that lol. Just sorta spread the oil around and made it slicker -_- Also, one more tip if your in a part of the world where you get icy driveways, use something to deice the driveway and lay sawdust down. I dont know exactly why it works, but it does
Cat litter. Was in Army and stationed in Germany, which has high epa standards. We used kitty litter ground into the stains with your foot to clean up after tanks, hummers, and old 5 tons. 1st sgt never had a complaint.
This video saved my life. I have been really depressed these last few months and honestly nothing can really move me anymore. It's as if serotonin has lost it's meaning to me. Thanks to your video I finally realized that my girlfriend is like a stain in my driveway, so I drowned her in Tide. Thank you so much. Have you ever smoked dmt?
I work as maintenance at a McDonald's, and my first job in the morning is to clean the walkways and entryways to the store. When I have the opportunity, I like to deep clean the concrete, and the way I do that is first use the pressure washer to blast off the first layer of dirt, dust and grime. Next, I take some industrial degreaser you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot, take a scrub-brush broom, and work it into the concrete. Then use the nozzle setting on the pressure washer to clean it off; that's the second layer. Finally, use the surface cleaner on the pressure washer to blast off the last layer, and you have sparkling, almost snow-white concrete. Depending on how much concrete you have, it can get expensive for the amount of degreaser you have to buy, and it's very intensive labor, but the results- so far- have been unparalleled.
Try the newer Tide 10X Heavy Duty, that stuff is far more powerful specially for grease. We used it on set in stains and it got them out perfectly. I really don't think you need to do all that scrubbing either, it just needs to soak really, it's not like you can scrub below the surface. Another go to option for me on a driveway is Purple Power, that works very well.
Dawn dishwashing soap (the platinum version) is good at cutting grease--work in some baking soda -- which absorbs grease; leave on for a couple of hours, then wash off. Works great for fresh spills like AC service guys who park their busted truck in your driveway and drip oil.
I use a multi step method. 1. Apply solvent (gasoline works well if you are feeling spicy). 2.Scrub it in. 3. Mist with water. 4 Apply powder laundry detergent 5. Scrub and mist until it emulsifies 6. Rinse Let dry you will be looking white concrete.

@@picklejar7236 too
Bailey Driver lmao tf. Did you do it intentionally and how did go after all the chaos
I like the side by side comparison. It's much better than saying "Trust me this is what I use"
Hahaha
Honestly guys, more of this. I love it
"Oil, grease, gunk"
Power steering fluid…
We've used laundry detergent at the last 2 shops I've worked at, but generally the powder instead of liquid, definitely works great.
poweder, some water, paste, sit for 20 min, scrub?
This is the quality content I’m looking for. Hot damn do I have some stains! My driveway looks pretty bad too
Or Mr.Awesome from Dollar Tree👍
BacKrete is eventually going to see this video and just be like: F***.
6:30 When you can finally use put your canadian curling studies to use.
who needs sleep when you got great content to watch (its 2 am in AUS)
"Everybody has detergent"
*LAUGHS IN BROKE COLLEGE DORM*
You're probably free of an oil covered driveway then 👌
So I take it Dawn dish soap is bad for concrete? Wouldn't it help with oil stains?
I love the dynamic between the three of them!
When I opened this video I was like pressure washer every time😂 that stuff will clean the walls of a house
Started watching the video 2 minutes before I received the notification........ winner winner chicken dinner
Roommate 1: Let's make Zach clean it up.
Roommate 2: Let's tell Zach to make a Money Pit episode to clean it up.
Zach: I wanted to do an episode on GoFaster stripes and other useless mods, you guys!
Roommate 1: We outvote you.
"Do you like watching guys clean a driveway?" ... yes? evidently...
