Harishchandragad trek is one of the most challenging treks in the western ghats of Maharashtra. A popular trek that offers a variety of adventures to all kinds of trekkers. The best time to do this trek is between august to February.
It is a hill fort in the Ahmednagar district situated in the Malshej Ghat. It climbs up to an altitude of 4,670 ft.
The route we followed was Katraj to Chakan to Junnar to Khireshwar .
There are three main routes through which you can start your trek to Harishchandragad.
1.The first and the easiest path is from Pachnai village, It takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hrs depending on one’s speed. Beginner trekkers can go via this path.
2.Second route is from Khireshwar village which you can see in this vlog. This route goes from Tolar khind which is a path filled with thrill and adventure and It takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hrs depending on one’s speed.
3.Last and most difficult one is from Walhiware, a very remote village 10km inside from main Malshej ghat road which is called Nalichi vaat. The name nalichi vaat is given because nal means tap in Marathi and this route is nothing but a river which brings down all the water on Harishchandragad in monsoon season and dries up in winter. It takes anywhere from 6 hrs to 10 hrs depending on one’s speed.
Harishchandreshwar temple, Saptatheertha Pushkarni, Kedareshwar Cave and other caves are excellent structures to explore in this trek. Kokan Kada (cliff) which offers a majestic view of the Konkan region is the main attraction of harishchandragad , but unfortunately, we couldn’t explore it because of heavy rains and time constraints.
