    I remember building models back in the 70s. I'd use my scout knife to cut the parts out of the frame and smooth the cuts with my mom's nail file. My favorites were the F-4 Phantom, P-47 Thunderbolt, B-17 Flying Fortress, and Huey Cobra. I used Testors spray and bottled paints. Those were the days.

      They are good, yes, but a pinnacle of plastic injection? No. Not by a long shot. Tamiya and Bandai, just off the top of my head, are definitely superior.

    A wonderful way to spend 21+ minutes. You have taken an old kit, and made a gem out of it. I've learned that B-25's take an inordinate amount of weight up front in order to keep this bird on 3 legs. I've most always had to resort to the ladder or step in back to keep the tail up. I enjoyed the NMF prep and paint. Very Nice result!

    • @HootOwl513
      @HootOwl513 3 года назад +1

      You might be able to sneak a mix of BBs and PlayDoh inside the cowlings and forward of the landing gear in the nacelles.. With a clear bombardier J1 nose any weights in there may be harder to conceal.

    I have exactly the same project on my shelf, all painted and decalled, with Eduard’s BigEd set applied and LEDs for interior lighting. After a couple of weeks, nasty seem lines appeared on the upper and lower fuselage. Your advice to let the kit sit for a while after assembling is a very good one.

    • @ScaleModelAircraft
      @ScaleModelAircraft  3 года назад +2

      Yes I had that problem in the past as well. Some people use the "super glue" etc. But again It would shrink a bit anyway. That's why I prefer good solid plastic to plastic joints, with few days off before sanding.

    I built a 1/72 gun-nose Mitchell as a kid in the 60s! I'm thinking it was from Monogram, maybe? It would be laughable by today's standards. I haven't built kits in decades, but the complexity, part count, and finish in today's offerings blow my mind! The price reflects that, of course, but the expectations are far beyond what we could have imagined back then.

    • @HootOwl513
      @HootOwl513 3 года назад

      The 1958 Monogram kit was ''box-scale'' -- meaning all the boxes were the same, and the airplane kits were sized to fit. I have one. I'm rebuilding it for a project. If you go metric a real B-25 has a wingspan of 20.6 meters. The kit plane's wingspan is 29.9 Cm. Do the math and you get about 1/69 -1/70th scale. Rivet detail is attrocious by modern standards. Rivet heads the size of walnuts. Also clear raised lines for where the decals go. The B-25H [w/ 75mm cannon] was obsolete for combat by 1947 when the USAF was created and the national marking got a red stripe added to its ''wings''. But it was a pretty model for its day, and only retailed for 98 Cents.

    Nice build. I did an 8 gun nose B25J2 Airfix 1/72 kit years ago. Much rougher kit then. Oversize rivet heads etc. Can the canopy masks be re-used?

    • @ScaleModelAircraft
      @ScaleModelAircraft  3 года назад +1

      I haven't saved the canopy mask. Maby if you don't damage the corners too much. Might try on different kit, anyway I have paid something like 2€ for the mask.
      All the best! Dusan

      @@ScaleModelAircraft Well, an Eduard 1/72 B-25 mask is almost $24 USD [tax + shipping] in the US, so if I can't reuse the one I ordered, I'll use Scotch Magic Tape and an Xacto knife like the old days.

    I had the Monogram model B-25. I think it was a 1 to 25 scale. It was huge and I screwed it together.
    And it took me s whole year to save the. $25 to pay for it. I don't know whatever became of it though

    In my Top 5 favorite planes. Great work. Do you spray with Acrylics or Enamels?

    • @ScaleModelAircraft
      @ScaleModelAircraft  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I mostly use the acrylic and laquer based paints. For enamel I started to use laquer thinner as well for them, they mostly behave just fine. In this video it's all laquer based colors. All the best! Dusan.

    Alright so not to long ago, two weeks max, I saw a B-25 flying over my house while going to an Airshow.
    It was obviously a B-25, you can't mistake it for anything else, and it had the turrets and all still on. A little later, probably for the same air show there was a F-100 Super Sabre
