I am really loving this channel. I have been playing longer than Paul has been alive but I still SO enjoy watching somebody doing something well. Well done.
Spot on. I think most of them who struggle to get great clean sound out of Boss Katana have the gain off or to low. With clean channel, pretty much on both Volume and Gain the clean sound is great.
You sir have helped me immensely! I have been struggling getting a good crunch sound from the June on the lead channel and it always sounded thin. Increasing the input gain and using the clean channel is the way to go!
Thanks. Cristal clear and straight to the point information, that alone is important for me. I tend to shy away from mid to high gain a little but that sound is fantastic and I will definitely be farting around with the input gain more than I might normally do when I plug in next!
A video elaborating more on driving front of amp vs power tubes would be really cool. Explain the way the amp works and how to get the full tone of any amp. You touch on this in almost every video demo of the new Marshall 20 watts but one video explaining this dynamic would e great! Thanks for the great videos! I have learned a lot!
One tell tale sign that you are listening to someone who has put the hours into dialing in their gear is if their guitar neck looks like this one! I'm assuming that fretboard wear was EARNED and didn't come from the factory like that. Great video!
Definitely a video on the plexi or jcm800 studio heads as well please. Also, would your settings stay the same for the PRS or Gibsons vs the Tele? An EQ video as mentioned below would also be interesting. How about a comparison on getting your pedals tuned to a Master vs Non-master setup as well?
Great vid, as always Paul. Pushing the input gain up really fattened up the sound, even seemed to add more mids and bass to the sound. Didn't expect the gain knob to do that.
wow, that intro lick sounds so good, great playing and the tone there is so nice. I'd love the tab for that little piece if anyone has it or knows if it's from something.
Great starter video, a NMV video, EQ set up and Pre amp vs Master volume would be great. Would be interesting to see how you use the Clean, Rhythm clip and Lead on the Silver Jubilee too.👍
Great video. I have the mini Jubilee and this is super helpful. Some think this amp is fuzzy and cannot dial in or don't want to put some effort to dial in some great tones and keep comparing it to the JCM 800 and its tone. So sad they don't know how good can this amp be.
I love your channel! Even tho it’s a bit beyond my level... both in playing ability and gear quality. (I’m just a hobby player) but, as a hobbyist, I’m still striving for a good tone. So, on behalf of all of us hobbyists out there that love your channel, I’m wondering if you could help us out a bit. I would love a video directed at getting good tones out of gear that us mere mortals are using 😁... for instance ,I’m playing a casino, into a danelectro EQ , bluesdriver, behringer analog delay into a Bugera V5 w a 1x12 greenback cab..( that I built myself, lol) .... and most guys I know (IRL) are playing monoprice or orange micro or Bugera etc... Now I know there’s channels like 60 cycle hum ( which I love too) but I’d love to hear your thoughts on playing through gear that most us hobby players would be using... thank you , you’re the best!
Cheers DW, I do many videos on the Boss Katana which is a reasonably priced amp. If you're talking about valve amps, It doesn't matter the price but I can recommend that a valve amp needs to be turned up to get what I would consider to be a great tone.
@@TheStudioRats wow, thanks for responding! And yes, I’m finding that out.. I’ve gotten used to pushing the front of the amp. And keeping the power amp volume pretty low..sounds good in my little studio room.. but when I bump up the master volume it’s a whole different thing going on.. maybe I should add a compressor to my chain? Or maybe it’s just a result of me being an beginner/intermediate player and I just need to learn a little bit more to get a better sound, I’m not sure.. i’ve watched all your amp set up videos about 100 times and I really appreciate those!! , they’re very helpful..
I must be doing something wrong. When I use my Marshall JTM together with my Epiphone ES-335, it get very muddy very quickly. Even when I dial everything back. ...this vid was excellent btw. TSR Katana 50 MKII Patches are very very very useful.
Great video Paul - thanks - would the same approach apply when the Master Volume has be really low, for bedroom levels? you seemed to have your Master Volume set around 12 o'clock or so and the GAIN sweet spot was then around 2 o'clock - but typically, even on a 5W amp, if the Master Volume goes much about 9 o'clock it is just too loud for neighbours. or how do you handle your amps set for bedroom levels?
Really nice thank you :) But I’m curious, can you do the same with the second channel/ lead channel on third mini silver Jubilee? How you would dial that to get a great tone and drive only using the amp and no pedal :)? Would love it if it’s manageable 😁
Hi Paul, Great video, thank you! May I ask... What's your recording set-up for this type of video, where you use an Amplifier? Also, what's your recording set-up when you record with a multi effects pedal? Thanks you. All the best.
@@TheStudioRats - Thanks, I appreciate it! What about the modellers that have USB interface capabilities? Do you run them through the Apollo interface also? Cheers.
awesome stuff as always Paul . luv your work. I have always wondered just what it is you are actually listening to in your studio? Are you hearing the marshall amps cabinet sound or your studio monitors? its puzzling me :) Coz it just sounds so damn good man? I'll be thinking of purchasing a silver jubilee if the marshall sounds that nice? Cheers
Hi Lou cheers! The Marshall is plugged into a Two Notes Torpedo Studio. That way I don’t have to mic up any speakers and the sound day to day is consistent.
hello! love the content and playing. I have a question about solo boost options I was hoping you could help with. I've been gigging with the silver jubilee mini and loving it, but I need to boost my solos a little more. I love the amp drive and have reverb and delay in the fx loop already, I just wondered what you would recommend pedal wise for a fx loop boost? cheers.
Hi Paul, thanks for the video! May I ask one question: The Silver Jubilee being a two-channel amp, do you always set your edge-of-breakup tone on the clean(er) channel and then use pedals to drive the amp, or do you ever use the lead channel as well?
Gee I have a 1988 50 watt silver jubilee and when I turn the input gain like you did from 10:00 to 2:00 it is a big difference in gain. Clean is not clean anymore. You have to dial back the guitar volume.
Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about. Tip of the hat to you sir, great stuff. Good luck to all.
Nice vid man! Killer guitar!
Cheers Brett, love your vids!

Great, right to the point video, Paul. I, as someone else mentioned, would also like to see you do a EQ video.

Great idea I’ll get around to that early next week.
Thanks, Paul.
I’ll give this a shot with my Studio JTM and a Boss Blues Driver.
REALLY useful advice: something on non mastervolume amps would be welcome too! Finding the sweet spot on tone controls as well!
Well done on your hard work and great playing !
Just picked up this amp and I thank you!
Paul, a video on stacking overdrive/ distortion pedals would be much appreciated. I know the're out there but your take on it would be great.
Hi Micky, I’ve already done a vid on that about a year ago. But I’ll do another.

i have the same amp and love it, to me, it's one of the best and versatile amps out there.
Very well done man , love your videos and all the information you share !
Love that tone, bro!! Are you using a ox box or any pedals to get that sound, or are you running straight into that amp?
Cheers! I think we used an ox box.
Ahhhh … Now I think I finally get it! Thanks 👍
Would love to see this with non master volume amps. And maybe thoughts on attenuation?
Thanks Preston, yes I’ll get round to that vid early next week.
Very nice this telecaster!
Great video! Would love to hear your thoughts on how to best EQ an amp too
Hi Leon cheers! I’ll get on to that in the next vid.
