- Suzuki Swace SZ5 1.8 Hybrid | Honest Car Review
So here is my review of the Suzuki Swace, a very close relative of the Toyota Corolla Sports Touring. I hope you enjoy the review and can see why, in my opinion, this is a near-perfect family wagon. This large family hybrid estate car is capable of over 60 MPG in real-world driving but it's the supreme comfort that really makes you sit up and take notice of this extremely capable and capacious car. The car comes as standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and has almost 600 litres of boot space. In this one I go over the exterior and interior of the car before taking it on it's all-important road test.

Bought new the Corolla makes more sense due to warranty and residual. Used, the Swace makes a lot more sense as once the initial depreciation has bitten you get a higher spec than the Corolla at lower miles and on a newer plate, for significantly less money. Swace SZ5 gets everything the Corolla 'Design' has, plus: blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic avoidance, wireless phone charging, bi-led headlights and the retractable load-net as standard. And Suzuki made the right call with 16" wheels as ride quality is greatly improved over the 18 inchers on higher-spec Corollas. By current standards a 12-18 month old Swace SZ5 offers an awful lot of car for the money.
👍👍
Jim, you are absolutely right! With two kiddies, one better half+ one dog this is an excellent choice.
Something about the longer wheelbase, suspension makes it so comfy and relaxing. A steal thanks to EU CO2 regulations.
New happy owner in Sweden
Thanks Anders, glad you're pleased with yours!
Good work Suzuki/Toyota 👍. It’s a nice looking car… I really like the look of the front end: very sleek. 👌
We agree!
I really like this car. It solves Suzuki's shortage of car engine problems in Europe and reduces their collective Co2 emissions. It also gives us a good car derived from the people who know more about hybrid tech than anybody. Good job, Jim.
Yes, great MPG and decent performance.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru I'm thinking about this car. I thought about a Lexus UX, but when I sat in the back if seemed cramped even to me at 5'10". The Swace looks surprisingly decent inside, I do like it, great review, Jim.
@@Ambienfinity I would advise against a UX to be honest.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Cheers Jim, yes the tiny boot put me off. My Honda Jazz boot is the same size. Cheers, Nigel.
Great RUclips videos thoroughly enjoy the videos .don't stop keep going
Thanks mate 👍
Looks awesome. I've never seen one of those before...thanks for your efforts 👍
Thanks Jock 👍
Great review thank you I might buy one of these used next year
It would serve you well I'm sure
Great review of an all-around very competent vehicle. Keep up the good work 👍.
Thank you
Great review, getting mine next week
Hope you enjoy it!
Very informative, thanks.
Thanks 🙏
Very informative nice car Jim thanks.
Thank you 🙏
Got one 2 year old,no problems would certainly have another.
Great car
Taxi and Uber drivers are rubbing their hands together watching this
Yes!! Perfect
Didn’t know that Suzuki and Toyota are basically doing the same car with different Brands. Regardless, I find estate car so much practical than suvs, mpvs, etc… also, congrats for reaching 16k subs!
Thanks buddy. Yes, Toyota owns a bit of Suzuki - (who also have a version of the RAV4)
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Actually, I think it's a somewhat of new development. Suzuki gave to Toyota the Baleno. They sell it in Japan and Africa as a Toyota model. And the idea behind the deal was for Suzuki to get hybrid technologies from Toyota, who were way ahead of them in this field.
British built too Jim, assembled in Derby on Toyota's Corolla production line...... I just wonder if the Corolla would have slightly better used values? It's surprising the effect a badge can have.
Yes! will be interestign to see how the used prices go.
Might have a look at this as I was looking at the Corolla estate
This is the same car, just re-badged.
👍👍
I've got one and I agree with everything you say, it's the smoothest car I've had. Estates far more practical than suv's
👍👍👍
How much of a no no is it for 3 adults in the back?
That cough haha! Good review!
Glad you liked it!
Had MG5 lined up for end of current lease this summer for a dalliance with electric but now discontinued so looking at Dacia Jogger, don't need the 2 extra seats though.
Will definitely have a look at this now! Two concerns are with getting in and out with back pain and is the acceleration reasonable good?
Whatever I choose will probably be eons away from delivery.
Go and try one out, seats have brilliant lumbar support. 0-60 is not amazing but plenty good enough.
I love this car had a test drive. Great car but Motability have put in up to £ 1999.00 AP.
👌
It's a very good car, boring but reliable and eco. I do love an estate, good review. That's it's best colour, I've seen one in what looks like a purply brown and it looks horrible.
Simple: Go for the 2 litre engine; longer wheel base (estate) - you'll be laughing! 😉
👍👍
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Hello Jim, just checked on What car - think you can only get the eighteen, seems bizarre?
@@leegorman8322 yes only the 1.8 in the Swace, both in the Corolla.
got the toyota Corolla touring sports with the 1.8 hybrid probably the best car I have had still have a place in my heart for my old mondeo st but that was in the past going forward I can't see any better car than my current Corolla fuel economy 70 mpg driving normally no change in driving style material quality is excellent better than any previous car by a mile smooth, comfortable and build quality excellent , British built assembled in Derby and engine from Wales supporting the British car industry 👌
Awesome 👏 👍🇬🇧
I'm in the exact same situation (managed to hold on to my Mondeo too so that a bonus).
My Corolla has a noticeable drone/vibration at motorway speed (70ish)...does yours do this? Also Jim, what about the Swace?
@@shmoo7516 I didn't notice it on the Swace
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru thanks for the feedback. I'll pass it over to the garage for them to look over anyway...likely something to so with the motor or charging etc.
Keep the vids coming. (Your company car tax vid brought me here a few months back, much appreciated)
@@shmoo7516 Thanks for sticking around mate, keep watching and joining in!
I agree, wagons are the best at practicality and its a shame that Suzuki doesnt make their own anymore but hey, if you have a partner who could do it better than you ever did then why not? Its not like they arent getting anything out of it.
Yes, not a bad choice of dance partner 👍
Shame they don't make Camry Estate Hybrids, but would rather go with a SUV (Altohugh the Rav4 / Suzuki Whatever isn't bad by any means).
But that would be the ultimate familly car. 2.5L Hybrid, Estate, vast amounts of room at the back, decent mileage. Alternative is the Honda Civic Hybrid.
For now, the Corolla will be just fine for me.
👍👍
Yep but what happens to your sat nav when you have no phone signal.
If you go outside of the mapped area it wouldn’t work. Don’t forget that it’s relying on GPS rather than mobile data for a lot of what it’s doing.
The 2024 model is listed as having 140hp so a welcome boost
👍
👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏
Did you mention build quality, are they a re-badged Toyota? I know the Corolla's built in Derbyshire, did you notice the manufacturer's sticker on the b-pillar? Gives you the cars origin. Deal maker - if it reads: MADE IN JAPAN. Err, might be the No.1 choice. Thanks, Jim 👍
Build quality is top drawer.
They are made in Derbyshire, I've had mine over 3 months now, 3500 miles purring like a kitten...
@@TheBattletanks id get that looked at before its inferior warranty runs out the door😂🙈👀😋😩😘
I think I would opt for the Corolla sports touring, slightly cheaper & a better warranty.
👍
if you only want a smaller hatch back you have to buy the Toyota Corolla which is more expensive than the bigger Suzuki
👍
7th
😂👍👍👍👍👍
It will be €3k cheaper at auction while badge snobs avoid it
👍
