I think I have the definitive answer for our game version Oak. When you beat the champion, Oak takes you into the hall of fame. At that point he says: Only champions are allowed into the hall of fame. And, surprise... he is there with you! :)
+Joshua Snell I could have sworn I remember it happening like that too, but I looked up some videos of that ending sequence and he didn't say that in Red/Blue or Gold/Silver.
+shino tenshi What if Nintendo went back in time and changed the game to cover up their tracks?? Or we were thrown into an alternate universe where he doesn't say that? O_o
+purityctrl hmmmm i would say so.... except when they show this battle in i choose you, which is the first episode of the anime it is clearly shown to be a very muscular man who looks like bruno who sends out the nidorino...and he later sends out an onix which is one of bruno's actual pokemon.
Nidorino and Jigglypuff are completely different pokemon types, and why would a top 4 member have both of them (in blue the nidorino is replaced by a jigglypuff)
In OR/AS Steven says, only a Trainer who has successfully become The Champion may go to the Hall of Fame. And in R/B, Prof. Oak goes with Red to the Hall of Fame. Prof. Oak in the games was a Champion!
This is true. Oak gets a message from the Elite 4 saying to visit them. This is on his pc in R/B and Firered/Leafgreen in the Gen 3 game and the remake only a Champion can enter the Hall of Fame. This is seen with each game with Lance, Juan, Cynthia, also Gen 5-6 do this too. So Oak has to be a Champion.
Avindhya Cabral Since it's been stated that only a pokemon league champion is able to enter the hall of fame, it's speculated that Oak has indeed been a champion at some point, which is hinted at anyway via some dummied out content in the original games.
Professor Oak is the greatest trainer: He can beat a skilled trainer in the Semi-Finals of a Pokemon league tournament with just a Spearow. He taught his Kangaskhan how to punch ghosts to death. Spends his whole life studying creatures that have the power to easily kill him.
In the anime, Season 1 episode 58 "Riddle me This" when Ash and friends are on the boat to Cinnabar Island, Gary tells Ash that trainers haven't gone to Cinnabar to battle since his grandpa was a trainer. That is the only reference I can think of to Prof Oak being a trainer and possibly being a pokemon champion in the anime
Trevon Javonte Oh man :D I guess having a Rainbow pattern was not the best choice for the thumbnail on my part :s (lots of people keep saying this). And mystery dungeon has some mighty fine music!
I am so glad I found a poke tuber who has a major interest in the manga. It's a great part of the franchise that most don't talk about as much as they should!
Lars Zagwijn thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them! Do you mean make a video on the creators of Pokemon (Gamefreak), or like the Pokemon who are created by humans in the games (like Mewtwo, Porygon, Garbodor, etc)? Or am I just reading your comment wrong? :D
I think he was the champion before blue and retired when blues parents died in the kanto war to be close to his grand children leaving a vacant spot until blue came in
No problem man, I really enjoy these kind of videos, with your editing and your voice it makes it so much better and more fun to watch, please keep on doing what you're doing! :D
wikiuser92 Oh man! I dunno how I missed that! That seems like it's a pretty big piece of evidence in support of the theory (at least to me, anyways) :D
Mr Buddy I am pretty sure that Oak was a champion in the games. I don't know if it was said in RBY / GSC but it was clearly said in RSE / ORAS. When you beat Steven, May / Brendan wants to join you in the Hall of Fame, but Steven sais that only champions are allowed in there. And since Oak walks you in the Hall of Fame, well you get the picture.
I assure you, most of the time, you can cross the games and the manga, because of Satoshi Tajiri stating that the manga is the closest adaptation of what he wanted to convey in the games.
OH! ONE MORE PIECE OF EVIDENCE THAT OAK WAS A CHAMPION! After you defeat Blue/Gary/Green/Assbutt or whatever you call him to become champion, he takes you into the Pokemon Hall of Fame, a room where, he states, that only champions can go. Since Oak is the one to register you into the Hall of Fame, and goes in there with you, if non-champions are not allowed to enter that room Oak shouldn't have been able to register you into the Hall of Fame. But since he does, it is likely because he was a Champion in the past, and therefore would have known how to register you into the Hall of Fame, and would have been allowed into the room in the first place.
plus he says it has been a long time since he was there meaning he was a champion when he was young simple as that what's the big issue like people must be blind
There was a short anime movie to celebrate 10 years of pokemon where Oak was regarded as one of the most powerful trainers in the world. He shows this when his dragonite holds it's own against a mewtwo
When theorizing, I would allow for a bit of cross referencing with the different media (games, manga and anime) as long as it still makes sense (although I've only ever done it once). In this case, it makes sense (therefore I would agree with the theory).
Professor Oak also appeared in Pokemon Platinum when you get the national pokedex? He tells you that the 3 legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are roaming around the Sinnoh region.
I thought it was neat that the Pokemon manga was paying homage to Master Roshi entering the martial arts tournament to ensure Goku doesn't get a big head from winning. Teaching him a lesson that there will always be someone stronger, and that you should never rest on your laurels and continue to work hard and train. But then Oak just withdraws after the semi final xD
+Aderamalech It's pretty possible, since she becomes a temporary leader in Pokemon Origins. Giovanni wouldn't let his gym in any hands (except maybe in anime, with Jesse & James, but they were their most loyal thugs).
I always assumed that Agatha was bitter at Oak because they were once a couple, and he dumped her and quit battling to focus on Pokemon research or something.
on a sidenote, ive always really enjoyed the theory that Oak and Agatha were once ramantically involved, and that Agatha's doughter (i cant remember her name) was by Oak
you forgot to mention oaks computer with an email from the pokemon league. the one where it asks prof. oak to visit them. you shouldn't ignore that as it is important to the game
The Manga Oak in the pokemon league reminds me of when Yugi's grandpa called himself "Apdnarg" and joined the duelist championship thing 😂 oh, memories.
Perhaps the reason Agatha is not happy with Prof Oak is because Prof Oak forfeited the battle... after a long set of time with Agatha wanting to take him on in a fair battle, but never getting a chance. Just a huge build up of "will they or won't they"... And then Agatha finally gets her chance... and Prof Oak denies her? That would be a VERY good reason for her to be bitter. "Yes... and now we battl--oh hey what? Confound it! Let's deal with this!" "No, tear that! We are battling to dec--where in blazes did you go, Sammy?"
It would be cool if they made a pokemon game in the past where you are Ashes grandfather when he was 10 yrs old and your rival was Oak. The game would be 1950's style starting in Pallet town, and spamming several regions. Instead of a pokedex you'd have a journal. The fact that this is before pokeballs would mean that you can only have one or two pokemon with you as they would have to physically follow you, lack of pokeballs would also mean catching would have to be different in ways such as using bait to lure them, or setting up a trap and having to feed them to make them like you. Also, they could have pokemon that the current doesnt have in familiar areas due to them being extinct in Ashes time, the mass extinction being what prompted a young Oak to want to research, document and conserve pokemon in current gen. Idk, it might seem like a waste of time to many, but I would enjoy them taking a different approach to a classic in this kind of way.
Mr Buddy thanks, the mystery dungeon franchise are by far my favorite games of all time. As soon as i herd the song a huge rush of nostalgia hit me in the face.
There is also a game called Pokemon Gen. 0. In that game you'll play as yough Samuel Oak or as yough Agatha. The other one wil be your rival. Check this out and maybe we'll get more information about Oak and Agatha
I've actually played through it a little bit, and It's a pretty neat fangame! Hopefully the team behind it goes all out with references and making a good backstory behind Oak and Agatha.
1:33 XD Omg that's me whenever that series is every remotely brought up! My friend: Yeah, so the other day I was playing Pokemon Diamond Me: Speaking of Pokemon (
Can we appreciate how Professor / Champion Oak is such a great man. Ge mentored his grandson and a kid name Red in their hometown to be "The Very Best". Blue is a champion and Red beat Blue to become the new champion. Both of his students achieved the highest honor of becoming a Pokemon trainer.
There is also an email in the kanto games from the pokémon league telling Professor Oak to come see them indicating his connection with the pokémon league.
I haven't played the games in years, but it was either in Leaf Green with Oak or maybe Ruby with Stephen. At the end you are introduced to the hall of fame, maybe I'm just imagining that they said this, but it was along the lines "only champions may enter." Well in leaf green Oak moves in like he's been there multiple times and even if this is the wrong game and Stephen said this then I assume this rule would still apply anywhere. In general if my mind is not fabricating this quote then Oak was indeed a champion.
Champion Samuel Oak is done in his journey as a Pokemon trainer so he is doing side quest as Professor Oak and mentor young trainers to be his companion too.
when you said “for many people, the 1st thing you see while starting the game is Prf. Oak” . only for many people? with did the rest of the peopl see????
I would say that the OAK battle was originally supposed to be at the ELITE four since OAK arrives very quickly after you defeat the champion, als keep note that the champion in the was your rival ( aka same as in the manga) to determine the championship, perhaps they wanted to include the battle between oak like in the manga.
also in the games prof oak takes you to the hall of fame if i remember it right, where only champions can enter to register their pokemon! he escorts you there so he must be a previous pokemon champion! also in other games of the series the current champion whom you just beat takes you there!!
There should really be a hack where you play as Oak back in his time, where his rival is Agatha, and his final goal is for the Pokemon league championship where you face Agatha in the final Battle.
i know this is a old video but in Gen 1 on oaks PC theres an email for the pokemon league that asks oak to attend, thought it might be worth mentioning
In ORAS the champion stops your rival from following you into the ceremonial room saying that only champions where allowed....red/blue, Oak takes you into that room, showing that he is a champion.... ^.^
Another point that also hints, that Prof. Oak in the game was a champion is the fact that he, after beating the champ in the league, comes with you to the hall of fame, in which only a champ of the pokemon league is allowed to enter
It could very well be that in the games they were going to have a different style of championship and that to win you had to beat prof. Oak as an npc however he could've been a champion. The game did come before the rest so the game would probably be a better source of info
In Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green , At The Four Island Where You visit Lorelei's Homeland . Go To The PokeCenter And Read The Shelf Where The Gentleman is facing . There Is One More Proof About Prof.Oak Being A Champion As Well
I just wanted to state, that it is evident in the games that Oak and Agatha once had something special. The championship you say is evident, could easily be a metaphor for winning the heart of Agatha in the manga. Because he doesn't specifically state that the championship he won was the Elite 4, just that he won a Championship. It's also a point to note that Agatha was solely interested in fighting pokemon, where as Oak wanted to learn about them as well. So she may have followed him for a time and they may have loved each other during this portion of the manga. Or maybe they already had their time and he cherished his time with Agatha so much, that she was his championship. But like all champions, must lose their title eventually. Last I remember, Agatha was a bitter old lady who only wanted to fight pokemon and complain about Oak. Seems Oak was able to move on and Agatha wasn't.
That explains why Agatha is disappointed with Prof. Oak. From being a rival to her, Prof. Oak decided to stop being a trainer and devoted himself to studying Pokemon.
I think Agatha's bitterness towards Oak is maybe due to him dropping out of the league not due to losing to him. It just seems like Oak defeating her would be more important since they were rivals.
i thought because the original game made it look like beating the Elite Four would make you Champion, and Blue's arrival comes as a surprise, the Indigo League was the first ever to exist and Blue was the first champion ever
You know, in the pokemon game (blue, red, yellow) do the missingno glitch over and over and over and you might have a chance to be challanged by prof.oak he mostly have level 111 pokemon
I really think Oak should have been gen 1's champion. It makes sense because of his study of pokemon he would probably know a lot about pokemon battling thus being able to beat the elite 4 with his knowledge.
gotta admit, if anime were like the game, it would be short like red"s ovas, and if it was like the manga, it will have ova animation with gore and more dark crude and realistic scenarios, i mean, litterally in the manga the protagonists really go trough such severe death risks!!!
What if Oak resigned as champion the year he knew his grandson would be champion? I mean, he has the brand new pokedex, his lab looks pretty new, and a couple of his assistants say that Oak is still strong. STILL. maybe that's why he tells you how to battle blue, and not one of his assistants, because he wants to see his grandson's power. And in the anime, the program about Oak the night before Ash gets pikachu is new because of the way it says get you're Pokemon tomorrow! So what if Oak retired as champion so that his grandson could be champion easily. Or maybe Blue took out Oak as champion...
In the original Japanese manga Red's rival is named Green. Green is professor Oak's grandson. The girl is named Blue. She is a thief who takes squirtle from Oak's lab. But Red gets bulbasaur and Green gets charmander. When translated to english Red's rival is named Blue, and the girl is named Green. But they keep all of the same pokemon.
Well, what about the fact Oak always just walks through the entire Elite Four? It would make sense for a former champion to be able to walk through it.
Only champions can enter Hall of Fame. Steven/Wallace said this in R/S/E/OR/AS. Oak enters Hall of Fame in R/G/B/Y/FR/LG, so he was champion before.
Ollie11 Productions This comment should be on top!
Ollie11 Productions Oh, and what about the rivals who casually enter there as well?
Andrejs Lukins Which rival enters there and in which game?
Ollie11 Productions ORAS May. I think.
Remenber, the rule only apply for the Hall of Fame ROOM!
I think I have the definitive answer for our game version Oak. When you beat the champion, Oak takes you into the hall of fame. At that point he says: Only champions are allowed into the hall of fame. And, surprise... he is there with you! :)
+Joshua Snell Holy shit you are right!
+Joshua Snell I could have sworn I remember it happening like that too, but I looked up some videos of that ending sequence and he didn't say that in Red/Blue or Gold/Silver.
+Waffles but thing is i also remember it that way O,o
+shino tenshi What if Nintendo went back in time and changed the game to cover up their tracks?? Or we were thrown into an alternate universe where he doesn't say that? O_o
i was actually just about to post that when i read this, oak is allowed in the champions room, and is therefore a champion
could the iconic Gengar vs Nidorino battle at the start of the game be a reference to the oak vs agatha fight?
+purityctrl hmmmm i would say so.... except when they show this battle in i choose you, which is the first episode of the anime it is clearly shown to be a very muscular man who looks like bruno who sends out the nidorino...and he later sends out an onix which is one of bruno's actual pokemon.
I don't think that has anything to do with it.
+purityctrl Yep
+purityctrl no it's the other way round
Nidorino and Jigglypuff are completely different pokemon types, and why would a top 4 member have both of them (in blue the nidorino is replaced by a jigglypuff)
In OR/AS Steven says, only a Trainer who has successfully become The Champion may go to the Hall of Fame. And in R/B, Prof. Oak goes with Red to the Hall of Fame.
Prof. Oak in the games was a Champion!
Nice research dude :D
How did u know that (how much reasearch)👍🏻
If other professors go in with u then this is invalid :P
***** Other professors also were champions. Professor Rowan even states that he was one long ago.
About the Prof. Oak in the games. Did you ever think that it was strange for Oak to ever know about the Hall Of Fame room and how it works?
Avindhya Cabral Since it's been stated that only a pokemon league champion is able to enter the hall of fame, it's speculated that Oak has indeed been a champion at some point, which is hinted at anyway via some dummied out content in the original games.
totally agree with you!
That spearow must be fully EV trained
no, the opponent had a bird phobia
+malik sakti blue/green and I will not be friends than😂
Professor Oak is the greatest trainer:

All I saw was "Was professor oak a...." At first glance and I saw the rainbows and was like "homosexual?"😂
And Noice mystery dungeon moosic.👌
Trevon Javonte Oh man :D I guess having a Rainbow pattern was not the best choice for the thumbnail on my part :s (lots of people keep saying this). And mystery dungeon has some mighty fine music!
DUDE I WAS GONNA COMMENT THE EXACT SAME FUCKING THING IM SALTY
Welllllll you're 13 weeks late lmao LooslyHD
I mean... he did came when I beat the Elite Four so... 👀
I am so glad I found a poke tuber who has a major interest in the manga. It's a great part of the franchise that most don't talk about as much as they should!
Nobody know Mr Buddy
Nobody Likes Mr Buddy
Nobody thinks he's Cool
But no one is probably named Nobody :D
Oh man, I was about to cry until I saw the last part :D
Lol Thanks for reading anyways
Mr Buddy i love your videos en do who creat pokemon
Lars Zagwijn thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them! Do you mean make a video on the creators of Pokemon (Gamefreak), or like the Pokemon who are created by humans in the games (like Mewtwo, Porygon, Garbodor, etc)? Or am I just reading your comment wrong? :D
Yes who craeted them in the game
I think he was the champion before blue and retired when blues parents died in the kanto war to be close to his grand children leaving a vacant spot until blue came in
So professor Rowan was also a champion then
i think so
+林半壁江山 where did you get such a idea?
i dont know things
Yes when you beat the champion he follows you to the hall of fame where only champions may enter.
eesh butthurt much? lol
4 years later lmao but yes he definitely was and I believe it was taken from Cynthia which is hinted at how they know each other in the games
I always just assumed Oak and Agatha were once lovers
PROFESSOR OAK GHOSTED AGATHA AFTER SHE TOLD HIM HER FEELINGS NO WONDER AGATHA BECAME THE GHOSTS TYPE TRAINER 💀💀💀
You're honestly such a good RUclipsr and you deserver wayyy more subs dude!

I assure you, most of the time, you can cross the games and the manga, because of Satoshi Tajiri stating that the manga is the closest adaptation of what he wanted to convey in the games.

+Narlaw1199 ya
OH! ONE MORE PIECE OF EVIDENCE THAT OAK WAS A CHAMPION! So basicly manga proff. Oak joined the tournament to shit on green with a sparrow and quit.
In the champion room after the final battle Professor OaK tells the player that only champions can enter the room, their for he must be a champion.
There was a short anime movie to celebrate 10 years of pokemon where Oak was regarded as one of the most powerful trainers in the world. He shows this when his dragonite holds it's own against a mewtwo
RubixCube do you have any link to it?
I think the cut Professor fight was originally going to be a post game fight.
Or he is the reason why Red is on the top of Mt. Silver. He beat Red proving that he is still strong.
Oak goes with you into the hall of fame after saying only champions may enter. Case closed.
Thomas James when you're watching this in 2016 and there's a comment only 6 days old

manga oak: i was a champion like you til i took an arrow to the knee (XD
Lol xD
I still think oak was supposed to battle you when you collected every pokedex entry.
Professor Oak also appeared in Pokemon Platinum when you get the national pokedex? He tells you that the 3 legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are roaming around the Sinnoh region.
Didn't Oak say in the game "Its been a long time since I entered this room."
I'm a big fan of the Manga. Cool video man. As a Pokemon RUclipsr Myself, I want to say you do well with this video! Keep up the good work!
I definitely agree! The manga is incredibly good! And thanks :o) It means a lot having one of the bigger poketubers giving me a compliment! ^_^
Mr Buddy If you keep this up you'll be big one day too :D
***** yup :D
***** sure :D

I like the nod to Roshi with disguise in Advetures.
I remember in one of the games (or the anime) oak saw Agatha and got startled and nervous
I looove how you always use music from Mystery Dungeon!
I love the manga although I haven't read much.
Agatha's face and demeanor kinda remind me of Giovanni...
Imagine if that was his mom? :O
+Aderamalech It's pretty possible, since she becomes a temporary leader in Pokemon Origins. Giovanni wouldn't let his gym in any hands (except maybe in anime, with Jesse & James, but they were their most loyal thugs).
+Julio Cesar Dias not in origins. The actual official anime.
I always assumed that Agatha was bitter at Oak because they were once a couple, and he dumped her and quit battling to focus on Pokemon research or something.

I think that Agatha just is upset because Oak isn't DTF.
LOVE The mystery dungeon music
you forgot to mention oaks computer with an email from the pokemon league. the one where it asks prof. oak to visit them. you shouldn't ignore that as it is important to the game
Siri VS Cortana Good one, forgot about that!
they also mention agitha and oak on the anime, when ash is first hearing about the battle frontier, im not sure what they talk about tho XD
what about the fact that oak can enter the hall of fame? when only champions can do that?
Gosh, you're like a higher quality, less err... strongly opinionated ProtoMario.
Pugglen What strong opinions does ProtoMario have? Genuinely curious.
+Pugglen I actually saw Protomario as the complete opposite and lacks much personal opinion o-o
Idk if it's just me, but protomario is so monotoned that it kills me
+itsinmyvein Main issue i have with ProtoMario is his OC, it just looks awkward and gross to me
+itsinmyvein Basically a character that someone made to represent them selves online, like Mr. Buddy's avatar could be called his OC
WELCOME BACK WILLOW MAH BOI
If you only listen to the audio, it seems like he's talking about oak trees...
prof.oak the champion of crack since 1947.
The Manga Oak in the pokemon league reminds me of when Yugi's grandpa called himself "Apdnarg" and joined the duelist championship thing 😂 oh, memories.
A prequel with Prof. Oak and Agatha as the rivals main characters game.

"We promised! If I could beat you, you'd marry me!" "Then you'll just have to beat me at research!"
...screw you, Oak.
Chances are he would've been like the "Final hidden" trainer after you beat the Elite 4.
Having been a champion already, its kind of a dick move to beat green who has never been one. Given the the amount of experience he had over her.
HacksignKT She did steal his Squirtle though...
if she lost to a spearow then she wasn't ready yet lol

I have a Pokémon theory, in the XY special, on the cover of #11, there is a Z-Crystal on X’s necklace
they should make a game where you play as professor oak and battle Agatha in the league when they were young
...His first name is Samuel?

Oak is a Champ in the manga and in the games.
I'm guessing Professor Oak fiddled with more than his Pokedex back when he was with Agatha...
Woah what is the picture at 1:36 it looks amazing and I love the pokemon adventures manga, it looks very nice

Love the pokemon mangas! By the way is yellow a girl in the pic? (oops spoilers sorry)
luigi legends Yeah, she's out of her disguise!
Yellow was always a girl but she wore a hat for green/blue to hear what yellow heard but she looked like a dude
There should really be a hack where you play as Oak back in his time, where his rival is Agatha, and his final goal is for the Pokemon league championship where you face Agatha in the final
Battle.
i know this is a old video but in Gen 1 on oaks PC theres an email for the pokemon league that asks oak to attend, thought it might be worth mentioning
Seems Oak was able to move on and Agatha wasn't.
last thing about game prof oak, in jp version in cutted battle he was reffered as SENSEI Okido (oak)
That explains why Agatha is disappointed with Prof. Oak. From being a rival to her, Prof. Oak decided to stop being a trainer and devoted himself to studying Pokemon.
I like this theory. It seems highly probable.
I think Agatha's bitterness towards Oak is maybe due to him dropping out of the league not due to losing to him. It just seems like Oak defeating her would be more important since they were rivals.
Based on the graphics in the video thumbnail, I thought Prof. Oak was fist-pumping at a gay club.
i thought because the original game made it look like beating the Elite Four would make you Champion, and Blue's arrival comes as a surprise, the Indigo League was the first ever to exist and Blue was the first champion ever
9:04 is that an Arbok getting severed in half? Dafuq? And they say pokemon is for children.
+DeepbloodFang the manga isnt like the anime or the games bro
+DeepbloodFang Later on in the manga it's revealed the Arbok regenerated it's body.
You know, in the pokemon game (blue, red, yellow) do the missingno glitch over and over and over and you might have a chance to be challanged by prof.oak he mostly have level 111 pokemon
Heres a suggestion. Who was the champion before blue?
I really think Oak should have been gen 1's champion. It makes sense because of his study of pokemon he would probably know a lot about pokemon battling thus being able to beat the elite 4 with his knowledge.
Plot Twist: Green is Oak from a different dimension
must be the original cut scene in the game....prof oaks nidorino vs agatha's gengar lol
gotta admit, if anime were like the game, it would be short like red"s ovas, and if it was like the manga, it will have ova animation with gore and more dark crude and realistic scenarios, i mean, litterally in the manga the protagonists really go trough such severe death risks!!!
It is prof. Oak, who did blue beat to become champion? Oak
Oak is Blue confirmed
Pokémon league champion, maybe, secretly the head of all the evil teams- yes
Anime Professor Oak made Desxter, hints why tracey is obsessed with him, and he was a watcher like Tracey
his name is Samuel Oak?
Samuel
SAMUEL
lel
Well, what about the fact Oak always just walks through the entire Elite Four? It would make sense for a former champion to be able to walk through it.
best pokemon theory I have seen
Professor Oak is wearing slippers
