For me Pink Floyd is Roger Waters. I use to be a fan in my youth ages. Still love and respect him very much.

Totally agree. Cannot deny the brilliant musical contributions of Gilmour and Wright, but Waters was the bleeding heart of the band, and the reason we are still listening to them.

I just love that guy! As I love the rest of the band.. They are all great legends. When it comes to non music stuff, it appears that Roger comprehends the world at a deeper level than most.

Also wrote some of the greatest lines of lyrics. “ We adopted a fox cub whose mother was somebody’s coat “. “ They had sex in Pennsylvania, a Brazilian grew a tree and a doctor in Manhattan saved a dying man for free. It’s a miracle. “

This song was recorded after the live aid concert in 1985. It's amazing the optimism in it that yes things are changing and you look at the world today and the tide has turned but not for the better. 😔

You might recognize Roger Waters from some of his earlier work, like Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall or maybe Animals....

Fil, grew up in a rap bubble and only three years ago we broke him out and got him to react to other genres including 'Wish You Were Here'. I will be requesting one of his custom series to do The Wall in four parts, the way we first heard it. Will be next year as he is booked up for now.

Roger waters album “is this the life we really want” would be a perfect album to do with how the the world is today.

Well said. You are correct, when this song/album came out it was towards the 'end' of the cold war, or so it seemed at the time....

Roger Waters live in Berlin THE TIDE IS TURNING is the best version of this song. 👌

Well, obviously the timing of this particular reaction couldn't be worse considering what's going on in the world. But this song demands proper context.
It came out at a time when the old Soviet Union was being dissolved and the Berlin Wall, so long a symbol of the cold war and the dangerous divisions that divided the East and West, was just months away from finally coming down. It is within this context that Roger Waters, the creative mastermind behind Pink Floyd, known for creating some of the darkest most melodic music of the rock era, allowed himself this moment of optimism. It is from Roger's solo album entitled "Radio K. A O. S." A concept album in the tradition of Pink Floyd that ends in this brief moment of optimism for the world. Worth a listen in its entirety. 👍

Fil, yeah, agree with all you said. The song is so cool, even if the message rolled away like tumbleweed. It came at a time where we thought mankind would grow to be more self aware. In fact books on enlightenment/self improvement topped book lists at the time.
#QcumberSquad #RogerWaters - Fil, I'm off back to the study.

This came on the back of the government in the UK sending out leaflets on how to "prepare" for a nuclear war. Those days were indeed THAT dark for kids growing up in the middle of it. So this song, in context, is very much, "Surely things can't be worse than they have been? Things HAVE to get better..." We were told that in the event of a nuclear attack, we'd get a four minute warning; THAT was the reality at the time.

Who but Waters would think to use the Pontarddulais Male Voice choir on rock track.
