Her dad is a therapist so I think that's why the reference to "I am my father's daughter maybe I can fix him"
That makes a lot of sense! 😅
@@z4ch4r6great reaction by the way.
You can always go back and listen to Sour. Awesome record from a 17 year old.
she’s so pretty and Talented period.
I'm a 42-year old man, and I love this album. The late 90s/early 2000s punk pop style in so many songs fills my heart with joy. I have a daughter who's around the same age as Olivia, and I find myself getting angry at the guys the sad songs are about.
My top five:
All-American Bitch - a perfect sarcastic commentary on what is expected of a woman in American society, with a great combo of 90s folk and 2000s rockin' punk pop
Vampire - epic song, fantastic build, great lyrics, makes me want to do not nice things to the guy the song's about
Making The Bed - heartbreaking and so relatable for so many people, and a bit of genius songwriting to turn the cliched phrase "You made your bed, now lie in it" into a gut-wrenching ballad
Logical - another brilliant piece of songwriting that hits so close to home for so many people - I love the ways she managed to convey that feeling of being gullible in a relationship - 2+2=5, if the rain don't fall and sun don't shine - great lines
The Grudge - another heart breaker - I have one relationship that ended badly due to something my ex did, over 2 decades ago, and I still relate to this song today - that last line, "It takes strength to forgive, but.." OOF
I would say Get Him Back! and Bad Idea, Right? aren't exactly happy songs, but they're not really sad, either. They're both super fun bops, and Bad Idea, Right? is basically just a drawn-out joke with a killer early 2000s rock soundtrack. Get Him Back! is the perfect song to perform in a giant arena full of fans. You can see a bit of that in the little snippet of it she performed on the VMAs.
There really aren't any bad songs on this album, and her writing is even better than it was for Sour. I loved pretty much all the songs - Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl is basically "Social Anxiety: the Song". Pretty Isn't Pretty is the 2023 installment of the recurring song about the unrealistic expectations that society places on looks, and how that effects women especially, and for me is up there with TLC's Unpretty and Christina Aguilera's Beautiful. Love is Embarrassing is another great piece of songwriting that says something that pretty much everyone knows but hadn't verbalized before - love IS embarrassing. Lacy is a mysterious piece, part jealousy, part idolization, with a floaty melody and very interesting vocal performance. It was almost in my top 5. So was Teenage Dream, another heart breaker, it's a devastating commentary on becoming famous as a teenager, and how it's impossible to live up to all the expectations that are thrown onto celebrities, especially as a teen.
One final note, I read in a comment on another Guts album reaction that Olivia's dad is a therapist, so the "I am my father's daughter, so maybe I can fix him" line in Get Him Back! is HILARIOUS with that context. Olivia is gifted lyricist, who is getting better all the time. I have high hopes for her future career.
Great reaction.
I adored your analysis of the album! I pretty agree with the entirety of what you said 😄 Those who don’t like this album either don’t like mainstream music or don’t get it! As you said, she’s a lyrical genius!
Glad you enjoyed 😁
She did a live version of all American b**** !!! It actually sounds really goodddd can you react to it !!
A fun fact maybe you didn't know: that baby at the end of teenage dream is actually Dan's baby. Dan Nigro is her producer and also co-writer on all of the tracks in SOUR and GUTS and they're very close. Btw great reaction!
OHHHH thank you for letting me know!
No it's not it's Olivia as a toddler
@@leethomson3202 it's not her. her and dan said in an instagram live that it's dan's baby
no its not. it is dans baby@@leethomson3202
@@leethomson3202no it's not olivia. It's dans daughter, soirse. She even says her name and olivia said that in a interview.
making the bed is actually referring to the saying: you made your bed, now lie in it 😂
but your interpretation is also interesting
Ohhhhh 💀
at least what you said still kinda made sense 🤣
I think why the grudge has the feeling of driver license is because it has that same suspended repeated note (idk if its the exact same note but its played the same way)
Really enjoyed your reaction as someone fresh to Olivia Rodrigo’s music. 😊
@25:22 "feelings"😂 I think the word you're looking for is relatable😂 loved your reaction x
😅😅😅
Loved the reaction, it was so interesting to experience it through fresh eyes.
Oh man loved this reaction from someone who hadn't listened to Sour. Totalllly would love to see you go back and react to Sour now, though! Gained a new subscriber, you've got some good opinions :D
Thank youuu 🥹 I might just have to add SOUR to my list 🙃
@@z4ch4r6please do! i’d love to see you react to it, it’s the best debut album imo
Dude, Great reaction!
Glad you enjoyed it 😄
If u like her voice and the relatively quiet moments, u should give a listen to 1 step forward and enough for you. Maybe traitor and happier too but those are not piano ballads are a little produced. Also all I want showcases her vocal ability very well.
I love guts 💜
GREAT REACTION. New Sub!!
i liked ur reaction! but i had to laugh when you mentioned liv’s lack of gaydar in ballad of a homeschooled girl, but completely missed in the previous track, lacy, that she’s describing the inherently sapphic idea of idealizing another girl/woman and being stuck in the “do i want her or want to be with her” conundrum
I can’t catch everything the first time, can I? 😅🤣🤣
❤
loved this video! would love to see you listen to SOUR tbh 🥰
I’d love to see you react to stick season by Noah Kahan, Superache by Conan gray (Olivia’s best friend from childhood), Five minutes flat by Lizzy mcalpine as well. All phenomenal albums
The Grudge is almost certainly about the same guy as Drivers License, and I think the musical (and lyrical) callbacks in that song are very purposeful.
Also, be careful, someone got a burr on their backside and axed half the Guts reactions on RUclips overnight.
I hope you react to more pop punk albums like let go and under my skin by Avril Lavigne and Green Day ❤💎❌
im 3 monthsss late but i think you're wrong to put lacy in a box of being about wanting a guy or girl that's in a relationship-- i'm pretty sure it's a song about envy / jealousy.
We neee a sour reactionn
SOUR had the better ballads, meanwhile GUTS has the better upbeat songs.
Please do Sour pleaseeee 🙏🏼
