T-Mobile had a trademark on "Get More" and was bullying small companies that used it. The company my dad worked for in the early 2000s got a cease and desist from T-Mobile because their slogan, which had been in use since the 80s, had "get more" in it.

Yeah, ... But ... : Great video. I was 39 in 2000 so I sort of remember the last 24 years. I was not an early adopter to cell phones because they were so expensive, especially the iPhone in 2008; I think they were exclusive to AT&T ... $100+ a month for the service plus the phone cost ! .... 2008/9 $$$'s before inflation. I think I went with 3rd party carriers that contracted with Sprint or T-Mobile. .... ---- Long/short ... now I have Google Fi on my Google Pixel 6a. It's WiFi or T-Mobile, whichever signal is the greatest. So I probably have T-Mobile most of the time ! (while mobile, away from Wifi). I also like Google Fi for it's seamless international coverage ! I do have T-mobile Internet. Comcast was unreliable in my area of Seattle suburb so I changed over to 5G wifi at a set price. I believe it's $50, taxes included.

The failed AT&T merger was actually good for T-Mo. AT&T was still contractually obligated to put $2 billion into expanding the T-Mo network. This gave them a competitively sized, technically advanced net with fewer customers on it, creating best speeds and few dropped calls.

As a German, seeing T-Mobile's success in the U.S. as a trendy tech company known for being uncomplicated is just bizarre. I'm old enough to remember Deutsche Telekom being formed out of the state-run german postal service, an infamously slow and bureaucratic organization. They were dying when the attempted merger with At&T was made. The reason they didnt die after it failed was because of a clause in the contract they had with AT&T that said that if the merger didnt go through AT&T would have to pay them about 5b dollars and more importantly give them cell phone spectrum which is used to carry cell signals around the country. That helped with the problems with reliability

Edit: T-Mobile also had free roaming on AT&T's network for 7-9 years due to that same clause as well. So while they were building out their network most of their traffic was on AT&T. Dang T-Mobile had a solid start after that failed merger.

I hear T-Mobile is actually planning to invest heavily in the east coast. They recently did a $200m deal with West Virginia to provide more access, and they built around 270 new towers and upgraded another 100-200 towers in the process. They also are investing heavily in PA. I won’t be surprised if New Jersey sees some upgrades, especially when I hear Verizon is also spending a lot more money upgrading by where you live. Maybe they might work better for you? Especially when uploading content in the boonies.

Same general location here. I was on T-Mobile and Google Fi (backed by the T-Mo network) for years, but I had to switch to Verizon because T-Mo just had too many gaps in coverage and it was affecting my work. The reputation I got was that during the Big Four, it was Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and then T-Mobile. When T-mobile not only surpassed Sprint but then ate them, my jaw was on the floor. Little ole T-Mobile?! Taking over a huge competitor?! No frickin way!
But then again...I took calls for Sprint between about 2012 and 2013 and it was AWFUL. Yes, call centers are already bad jobs, but this one was extra bad. Sprint was trying to build out their network but it was causing severe outages. We could see the ETA's of the completion time of many of the towers and they would be years out. Only those who raised enough hell were given a mini home tower called an Air Wave. This thing mostly sucked and did little to help. What signal did it have to even strengthen if the main cell tower had been torn down? And most other people had to pay for theirs...which was a $200 device.
Calls got so bad that our lunch times were often pushed until near the end of the day. They would feed us at our desk, but we had no time to actually eat, so it just went cold. And yes, if you put yourself in a break status to try to eat, a supervisor would notice and you'd be yelled at (if it wasn't your break time yet. Breaks were also pushed back and heavily regulated). I was in collections but call centers will have their agents be the "everything" person to save on money, so we had to do IT, sales, and billing, and THEN try to still negotiate getting a payment, all while being berated on our call time (having to juggle all of that and still keep a phone call under about five minutes).
Regarding being in collections, for the longest time, Sprint had a horrible payment plan policy that made it damn near impossible for us to collect anything. People could just make a tiny payment and then get a two week extension. So, you had people pretty much months behind on the bill but still with service. Finally near the end of my time there did they grow a backbone and implement a policy that based on your payment history and credit score, you absolutely had to make a larger payment before getting an arrangement. Probably discriminating, especially the credit score part, but I was just happy to finally have the company waking the hell up and realizing that being too nice is how people walk all over you. No wonder they were hemorrhaging money.
Anyways. After the initial shock with T-Mobile buying them out and then remembering all those horrible memories, my surprise faded into vindication. Screw Sprint, they got exactly what they deserved.

    I’ve been a loyal customer of T-Mobile since 2009 . My T-Mobile summary:
2009 I got my first smartphone at 14. Semi-rural Indiana. Only data available was Edge (2G) every other carrier had 3G. My dad was deployed to Europe a lot during his military career, so that’s why we stuck with T-Mobile.
T-Mobile ONLY OFFERED EDGE IN MY AREA UNTIL 2016 when out of nowhere we saw a strange 4G LTE icon on our signal bars. Much needed BUT reception still left a lot on the table.
2020, after the sprint acquisition, I saw my first 5G icon on my S20 ultra but it was a rocky rollout.
It wasn’t until mid 2021 when I saw an exponential increase in signal reception and speed and quality. Now I’m on my own plan separate from my parents, and I literally couldn’t be happier. It’s crazy because in 2019 the T-Mobile store employees in my town. Low-key didn’t even want to sell their own phones because they knew that they would come right back within the 14 day period because of the service..

In the UK T-Mobile merged with Orange to form Everything Everywhere or EE as it's known. For years I thought T-Mobile was long gone as a result until I realised it was huge everywhere else in the world. Strange how it's gone from the UK with EE in its place and how EE is completely unknown outside the UK. Before they were called T-Mobile in the UK however they were called one2one. From Puerto Rico, the todays Tmobile PR was in the late 1990 AT&T. In the 2000 AT&T was renamed Sun Com Wireless and in 2008 Tmobile acquired SunCom. Until 2013/14 going to a Tmobile Store for Service it was like to be in a govt office, you know when you enter but no when you exit. Now has the best customer service and the store hasn't that govt office feeling anymore.
Today Tmobile is the last USA based carrier in this American colony. Because Verizon left in 2006 and AT&T in 2021.

VoiceStream also had the advantage of being one of the few American companies that used the GSM standard, the same standard that was used in Europe and most of the world. This allowed the same hardware to work easily across networks (though on different frequencies), and also used SIM cards which made roaming easier.

However, the company is still around today despite being filed for bankruptcy twice due to their financial troubles, namely due to commercial failures of the Neo Geo CD, the Hyper Neo Geo 64 and the Neo Geo Pocket Color. The origin of the Telekom is the Deutsche Bundespost which was split in not only the Telekom but also the Deutsche Post (DHL). Quite fascinating seeing how a boring government owned 'company' rose to two International giants.

I’ve had T-Mobile ever since they acquired Sprint, which is who I had for the longest time. It is still a little funny to see old Sprint stores now have T-Mobile signage even though it’s been years now. I was surprised by the history of it though since I never thought much about it, let soon learn that they’re a German company in origin!
