I wonder if the reason why there’s not much in the way of melody is because Acheron is something of a wanderer. She has goals of course, but there’s an emptiness she feels, a depression. I get the impression she’s often in her own head which isn’t helped by her memory loss. She even says that she focuses more on her feelings as a guide than memories which is why instead of a melody which could signify a concrete memory, we get instrumentation that demonstrates the raw emotion that encapsulates her.
And there's never any emotion shown when she fights - no anger, rage or excitement, unlike the Stellaron Hunters. It's like she's just going through the motions, already knowing the outcome. The designers did say that they wanted her power to feel desolate and shattered

Another Meatball classic, so glad to have this guy covering these games. Something to learn in every video. Acheron's lore so far and the HSR team's approach to showing it has been stunning. @@HenriqueLoesch Same here. I've got no issue with dubs but I always prefer subs. Not just anime, any foreign films too. Allegra completely won me over for the VAs though. I think all of her VAs did amazing, JP was lovely too ofc, as she's been for years. But man Allegra delivered.
Them just casually dropping that EDM beat with the eastern flute on Acheron's reveal... That's the exact thing I loved about Raiden Shogun's trailer. And then, how they just keep on ramping up that same energy with the final attack there, letting you hear the distorted space through the sound of incomplete sounds from electric distortion... And just ending on the pulsating into a complete fadeout.
i love the music in her trailer so much! it feels like a bunch of noise at first but the more i listen the more i see - there's a lot of deep, heavy, gritty sounds, in the first part of the trailer as she fights with the illusions it sounds muted, like an incoming storm or the mysterious raging sea below the silent waves - then the drop with the water/blood imagery. it's so fitting! it sounds like something in her is pushing and fighting for a way out then bursting at the seams, that's the moment we start over, similar to the myriad celestia video when the 12 sentinels got destroyed and reforged into "origin" and "end" - a recall to that moment, then the realization that the fight was useless all along and transforming into "nihility". a cycle of silence, fear, sadness, grief, then chaos again. the contrast in the track is so big, it gives us a glimpse into her inner world, the unpredictability and sorrow mixed together. i was already biased because of her being a raiden mei variant but honestly all the details in her writing are making me love her even more!
@@mistyumu You can make music deep and convey it to the audience too. If many people are disappointed with the music (which I don't remember ever happening with Hoyo games), that's on creators.
Blackholes make an ascending/descending, repeating electronic drone. The blackhole soundscape in Colors reminds me of that sound, but speeded up and broken as if the notes were being rapidly pulled over the event horizon and broken up.
Also at 2:57, I know Marco's head slightly blocks it, but the words "Self-Annihilator" are seen, which does hard confirm that she is one. Her pain and burden comes from the path she walks whos ultimate fate is losing everything contrasted with her will to pursue her the goal she strives forward to. I like the tension the song brings especially at the beat drop at 6:37, all that sorta shattering as she draws upon her full power.
When the black hole appears and the audio starts breaking apart, I am stunned by the power of the skips in the audio. Those brief moments of silence show the imperceptible power of nothingness taking over even the melody. The volume and tone rising quickly reminds me of speeding up out of control until you are past the point of no return, as if you understand what it feels like to pass into the event horizon with no hope of returning. What a powerful use of music by the Hoyoverse team!
Exactly my thoughts. You described it really well :)) that music part with the black hole is just insanely powerful, and even though I am usually not into that kind of electronic music, that short part makes me really emotional every time. I can't stop listening to this ost. Have found a new favorite here :)
The high flute/woodwind note at the 0:40 mark of "Your Colour" caught my ear _immediately_ because it reminds me of the same kind of high note that plays at the apex of Blade's character trailer "Death Approaches". It seems to me that Sparkle is not only messing around with Acheron by bringing forth visual fakes of the Stellaron Hunter trio, but that it's also mirrored in the music: they're not 1-to-1 perfect copies of the instruments or notes, but there are heavy beats like Kafka has in her trailer, and electronic notes like Silver Wolf's. Then comes the 1:20 mark, where Acheron shatters them all, and her true theme overtakes the rest of the video. The stuttering of the black hole ripping everything open and engulfing everything into bleached white noise. It's such a powerful combination of sound and visual.
this ost was so well done esp the edm drop at the end i was literally FIENDING LMAO i need hoyo to do more (full length) edm tracks like this bc this scratches my edm brain in jus the right spot...
Its quite funny, how a Mei can be so tragic and empty without a Kiana. Raiden Ei was dull and obsessed with Eternity. Acheron Mei is haunted by the torment of losing her own world, and turning to Nihility to empty her emotions.
She didn't turn to nihility, if I remember correctly she struck at the "pointlessness" of her planets fate and war, and it was IX thr nihility aeon the whole time and because is IX is quirky, turned her into an emanator
@@skylardesmire9585 I honestly more in line of thinking that IX didn't turn Acheron into an Emanator but due to the fact that she survive so long in IX's void space that she became an Emanator. My proof is Acheron's line about IX won't give their gaze upon anyone so I'm doubting that Acheron is an Emanator by choice. She also claim that traveling in IX's Void Space will lead to a Nihility corruption which explained her white hair form, in flashback we see Acheron talking to a man, he said she still have some color left which mean the red flower that bloom from her body is the only thing that keeping her sane. This is just a theory tho, A GAME THEORY!!!
Being able to get the emotions conveyed by the music and explain how it details a character is something I'm not able to do so seeing you be able to do this I find thrilling and impressive because the different perspective you give of the trailer and I enjoy your videos because of that.
At first after i hear the those dubstep music when she destroy everything. i feel so hype and so energetic that i can listen to it countless time. Beautiful trailer
I loved the way they did the music in this trailer. It almost felt like we experience gaps in the melody because parts of it are missing, which is reminiscent of the character herself. There's a lot of still and calmness, which is reflected in her nihility, while also having moments of violent energy when she is stirred to action. Good luck your pulls everyone, and if you're passing because she doesn't fit your comps or you're dodging meta, /salute.
am i crazy or does that drop with the flute (that might be the wrong instrument) right at the start kinda sound like the beginning of the Inazuma leitmotif ??
Im here with you, this whole character feels like they've brought the Shogun to honkai. Which Im all for, she was one of my fav characters ever in genshin.
I love the format of seeing the trailer with the song together, it brings more context within the song, I hope if you can do this with the Guilty Gear trailers, I sometimes see you lost with the wiki in those videos but they have a clear direction with the trailers, g8 video as always!!
The beginning of the trailer (when the ad says "apply your colour" first) reminds me a LOT of the mood in Blade Runner, with the subtle bgm, general apathy while massive ads play in a dim lit street
Someone unnamed in the Acheron's flashback in game says that Acheron has lost all her colors, except just one strand of color, which is Red. That is cool because in this video, like Marco said, it doesn't have any kind of melody except that one somber melody. Even after she draws her blade and within all those crazy EDM sound, that one single melody is still very present, but it kinda sounds like it's being "obliterated", distorted. Even at the end, it tries to attempt a few short beat of the melody, but still obliterated into a quietness in the end. Really embodies what Acheron represents as a self-annihilator. Every time she draws her blade, she obliterates a part of her self, basically.
6:35 I honestly don't really know much about musical composition or sound theory, but this part is the only thing that has felt and sounded like a tragedy to me. To me personally it sounds like a car crash in musical form. Tires on a road have a continuous rhythm, and when a car looses control that rythum turns into nails on a chalkboard. 6:48 Here it sounds like the car is so out of control that the tires are repeatedly leaving the ground and coming back down, desperately trying to right its self on a slick or ice covered road. And then at 6:55 we reach the car rolling and flipping manically, with the last notes even giving that finality scene some shows have where a scene pans to white or black showing ending that can't be changed, a line can never be un-crossed. This scene alone gives me more chilling imagery then most horror movies I've watched.
I love those EDM drills that sound like a tyre squeal, they match the kind of build up of her movements like the swordstokes themselves are a burnout. She swings the sword and it's only when she resheathes it that the brake gets let off and the cuts complete, dealing damage. It's such a crazy visual.
Amazing analysis as always! I do have a few recommendations: Godfather is the boss theme for Svarog, and I haven’t seen ANYONE do a video for it yet. Monodrama is Sparkle’s trailer and has my favorite character theme. Aventurine of the Stratagems is also a boss with amazing music as well!
I love the juxtaposition of the explosion swelling and the music's climax. You think of explosion you think of the release of energy and so you would imagine the music would continue to rise in volume or pitch ending in an explosive finish (using maybe percussion or a heavy bass) but instead the energy of the music just disapates. It builds and climbs just to simply dissappear
Acheron is an amazing character!! Would you ever do a break down and or commentary for Symphony No.8 'A Thousand Suns'/The Harmonius Choir boss? It's an insanely captivating orchestra piece and would love to hear your thoughts. I originally found you through your commentary and break downs of the Terraria Calamity soundtrack and seeing you do Star Rail content has been great :)
I think it's not a spoiler at all to say that now her name makes perfect sense to me. The River Acheron is the way to the Underworld in Greek myth that souls travel on, and since they chose that name there's every possibility when she says "Don't look back" that Orpheus and Euridice's story may be relevant to her story, and a black hole isn't totally unlike the inescapable Underworld
7:30 Saying that the music represents getting "ripped apart" fits her character and the "nihility" theme so well. The overwhelming weight of a black hole which rips apart everything including one's hopes and dreams is just like Acheron's character. Nice video!
Could you please also watch Kyoden: A cleave across the transient world? Because it is really interesting, especially when constrasted with Honkai World Diva. There is this one repeating motif in Honkai World Diva and there is an incomplete version of that same motif in Kyoden as well. Hoyoverse is not subtle with characters having alternative world versions so it is pretty obvious that Acheron is another version of Raiden Mei. Imo hearing that motif from Honkai World Diva and see how they tell Acheron's story with such details is really interesting.
I love that the synths here sound like those aztec death whistle, there's this sharp airy sound, no, the entiry sound design for this song is just audio-porn
Illusion or not, having finished the main story up to the most recent patch, I firmly believe that Acheron absolutely could take on all of the Stelleron Hunters on her own, at the same time.
Masterpiece recomendations: Aion - The Still Sad World (2 versions - acapella and with instruments) Aion - Sarpan Fortress (suite version). This tracks i deffinetly want in Warframe. The weirdest thing is that the animated one is apparently Robin? I haven't played 2.1 yet, but I am ??? flabberghasted about this as I genuinely thought it was going to be a Mei and Ei type beat which I would have LOVED to see in a different tone but I'm so interested inseeing the significance of Robin and Sparkle in this.
Hvy's honkai team has been on a roll with these trailers lately, they're at a quality never seen before from hoyoverse's trailers. Their absolute best work, nothing from their other games comes close. I watched Chiori's trailer after and lmao what a stark contrast, I forgot that trailer not even 5 minutes after watching it
The music, if you can call it that, in the second half of the video is harsh on my ears. The way it's presented feels very choppy and abrupt. To my ears, it feels like it's a video with bad audio that keeps cutting out. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying that is how it feels on my ears personally.

@@tite93 I'm just not convinced. It does say that but we are told in the boot lore as she gazes into the void and it encompasses her memories she sees a streak of crimson from the center of that void. Is it possible, Acheron went after her believing her gone forever, ended up the emenator of nihility and lashed out? If not, who do you think the girl is? Who else would say, "Find me."
@@HeWhoShams I believe it's her old self that she sees in the illusion. Have you seen "Kyoden: A Cleave Across the Transient World"? It shows how she became a Self-Annihilator and an Emanator of Nihility
Marco, if not for a review, but check this new Arknights track if possible: Arknights OST - Contingency Contract #2 Battleplan Underdawn Battle Theme | アークナイツ/明日方舟 危機契約 BGM It sounds a lot like it was inspired by Nier's composer Keichi Okabe.

Yeah, there is a lot that gives it away that it's Sparkle. Every one of the Stelleron Hunters have an eye color that's the same with each other, but is not their original eye color. Sparkle's voice also overlays the voices of the Stelleron Hunters. And lastly, the trailer is filled with her iconography, particularly, the goldfish, which further implies it's her illusion.

6:35
I honestly don't really know much about musical composition or sound theory, but this part is the only thing that has felt and sounded like a tragedy to me.
MEI SEMPAI COME HOME PLS
NI
Yes yes i agree... i still need more than 10 pull😢😢
1:51-1:54 did they just reference Mei and Ei at the same time?
I love those EDM drills that sound like a tyre squeal, they match the kind of build up of her movements like the swordstokes themselves are a burnout. She swings the sword and it's only when she resheathes it that the brake gets let off and the cuts complete, dealing damage. It's such a crazy visual.
6:49 If you ever wonder how a black hole sound, I feel that build up is it.
Going to just throw out the recommendation for Farde Mal Diavolo, from Unicorn Overlord.
It is beautiful.
Hell ya I’m loving this game
Acheron is an amazing character!! Would you ever do a break down and or commentary for Symphony No.8 'A Thousand Suns'/The Harmonius Choir boss? It's an insanely captivating orchestra piece and would love to hear your thoughts. I originally found you through your commentary and break downs of the Terraria Calamity soundtrack and seeing you do Star Rail content has been great :)
I think you've nailed Acheron personalization. Strength in the face of danger, sensuality, empathy, jadedness even to the point of whimsy, complexity
This piece of music is created by the same musician who created White Night, TSAR. He's been a member of Hoyo-Mix for quite a long time.
I love how when the black hole showed up, there's no noise for a couple sec
I think it's not a spoiler at all to say that now her name makes perfect sense to me. The River Acheron is the way to the Underworld in Greek myth that souls travel on, and since they chose that name there's every possibility when she says "Don't look back" that Orpheus and Euridice's story may be relevant to her story, and a black hole isn't totally unlike the inescapable Underworld
yeeep
7:30 Saying that the music represents getting "ripped apart" fits her character and the "nihility" theme so well. The overwhelming weight of a black hole which rips apart everything including one's hopes and dreams is just like Acheron's character. Nice video!
I'd love to see you react to Samudrartha
In JP and I suspect CN as well, you will hear her voice in ad
Could you please also watch Kyoden: A cleave across the transient world? Because it is really interesting, especially when constrasted with Honkai World Diva. There is this one repeating motif in Honkai World Diva and there is an incomplete version of that same motif in Kyoden as well. Hoyoverse is not subtle with characters having alternative world versions so it is pretty obvious that Acheron is another version of Raiden Mei. Imo hearing that motif from Honkai World Diva and see how they tell Acheron's story with such details is really interesting.
I like this lighting and camera settings the best
The early part where the splash art is shown sounds like Raiden's theme ngl
I love that the synths here sound like those aztec death whistle, there's this sharp airy sound, no, the entiry sound design for this song is just audio-porn
Everyone wanna test acheron so bad and end up dead or mentally traumatized 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can feel inazuma's theme clearly
I'd love to see your analysis on Steven Universe songs, especially "What's the use of feeling (blue)", since it's very closely related to opera.
Illusion or not, having finished the main story up to the most recent patch, I firmly believe that Acheron absolutely could take on all of the Stelleron Hunters on her own, at the same time.
you should check Blade's trailer, it's SO cool.
Masterpiece recomendations:
Aion - The Still Sad World (2 versions - acapella and with instruments)
Aion - Sarpan Fortress (suite version). This tracks i deffinetly want in Warframe. They are very suitable to the Warframe lore))))
This 2 track still in my memories from ages ago
Some Warhammer 40k musicals
Stringstorm - Rylanor's Last Stand
Stringstorm - Mounth of shame.
and...... A some warhammer battle rap
Stringstorm - Titanicus
Stringstorm - Imperial Fists.
You deffinetly won't be the same person after)))
I managed to get her and her LC, so now I have my DoT team of Acheron, Kafka, Black Swan, and Huohuo.
describing Acheron as "whatever" really does make sense too gosh
Can you do the firefly song
"If I can stop one heart from breaking" instrumental version?
im obsessed with 6:54. it sounds like the music is also getting sucked in
Try epilogue from ds3 next time. I would love to watch such a beautiful piece analysed by you. It's kinda slept on bc it is the last soundtrack of ds3
at 2:57 you can actually see self-annihilator its quite faint but visible
Thought this was a reaction not a music analysis holy
I rarely just do reactiona
@@MarcoMeatball ah ok
The weirdest thing is that the animated one is apparently Robin? I haven't played 2.1 yet, but I am ??? flabberghasted about this as I genuinely thought it was going to be a Mei and Ei type beat which I would have LOVED to see in a different tone but I'm so interested inseeing the significance of Robin and Sparkle in this.
Please do the Aventurine trailer I love the music
Hvy's honkai team has been on a roll with these trailers lately, they're at a quality never seen before from hoyoverse's trailers. Their absolute best work, nothing from their other games comes close. I watched Chiori's trailer after and lmao what a stark contrast, I forgot that trailer not even 5 minutes after watching it
I bet they use the real black hole sound for the track
That beat gives me chills
6.36 look at his glasses thats so coool
The music, if you can call it that, in the second half of the video is harsh on my ears. The way it's presented feels very choppy and abrupt. To my ears, it feels like it's a video with bad audio that keeps cutting out.
I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying that is how it feels on my ears personally.
Marco never disappoints, nor misses.
You shoukd react to the black swan and acheron tango dance.
I suggest you see the Sunday boss theme
one ost that i would like you to check out is from mgsv called "beautiful mirage" really beautiful soundtrack that i just couldnt stop listening to. the whole mgsv soundtrack is beautiful but if i had to choose only one? it would be beautiful mirage 100%.
HSR RUclips CHANNEL SHOULD REALLY UPLOAD THE OST
The blackhole and violin reminds me of Interstellar.
On quite a different style, I would advise you the Rome total War track from Jeff Van Dyck !
I'm pretty sure that girl on the screen, "Find me." Is Frebass. This realities Kiana, when it comes into relation to Acheron (Mei).
Unlikely, Frebass is, like, super dead. She ventured into IX and died for two weeks straight
@@tite93 Could very well just be a memory of the girl she cared for and is having a bit of psychosis.
@@HeWhoShams I believe it's her old self that she sees in the illusion. The actual advertisement features a Halovian girl, you can see the wings behind her neck in the end, but Acheron sees a girl with horns - herself before the fall of Izumo and the creation of "Naught", the blade she now wields. Have you seen "Kyoden: A Cleave Across the Transient World"? It shows how she became a Self-Annihilator and an Emanator of Nihility
@@tite93 I did give that some thought as well to be sure. Fair point
My Queen😍💜💜💜👑
Bro you are amazing keep up the good work, would be nice if you could react to (WISH ME LUCK from War Thunder) or War Thunder in general
Im sure you've seen this before but I recommend listening to "tanc a lelek" from the Highfleet ost.
Marco, if not for a review, but check this new Arknights track if possible: Arknights OST - Contingency Contract #2 Battleplan Underdawn Battle Theme | アークナイツ/明日方舟 危機契約 BGM
It sounds a lot like it was inspired by Nier's composer Keichi Okabe.
7:02 Hoyo really is cooking
Watch it in Japanese it’s badass
Acheron might be more edgy than her blade and I'm here for it tbh. I wasn't sold on the music the first few watched. But I've I heard it more (you're explanation helped) I have liked it more and more.
well if it was the real 3 .Acheron would have had some issues. this was mostly sparkles work lol
Yeah, there is a lot that gives it away that it's Sparkle. Every one of the Stelleron Hunters have an eye color that's the same with each other, but is not their original eye color. Sparkle's voice also overlays the voices of the Stelleron Hunters. And lastly, the trailer is filled with her iconography, particularly, the goldfish, which further implies it's her illusion.
hope you do more honkai star rail music
Gonna ask you to react to Blade's demo too, his trailer has pretty good music
gaming seth rogan
This was epic 👏
Was the word animosity?
Jadedness :)
Couls you react to rain world downpour songs??
React to Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous music, it is under appreciated.
marco? will you give honkai impact part 2 a shot?
I’m not sure! Though I enjoyed the bit I played more than part 1
@@MarcoMeatball i can only recommend it, the story so far with senadina, coralie, helia and songque is amazing haha
Please watch Twisted Garden, good video btw 😊
Am I the only one that didn't really liked the music in this one? I think the dance with Black Swan had much better music, I'm no expert tho, it's just that I really expected something else.
That’s because there’s really no music it’s noise and rhythm
Please react to Treasure Planet soundtracks
Can we finish the trailer then playback for another talk... Too many pause man..
Hi😅
