Lots of hard luck at the 1960 100m final. The holding pin on Peter Radford's blocks snapped at the start, giving him almost no push off the blocks at all. He basically gave everyone, including Hary a two metre start and then ran the final fifty faster than anyone in history to finish a 100th of a second down in 3rd.

That is bullshit. If you watched the final properly you would have seen that Hary reacted from the start as fast as another US- Sprinter.
He jumped out of the block and gained advantage during the first meters of acceleration.
Hary was the world record holder and once he ran twice 10s flat during a meeting in germany, the second time alone, because the jury thought of measure fault.
He was quick as hell, that is the truth.

Hary cramped in this race and allthought of this he wins. Sorry, the favorite was Harry not Sime. Harry was the world record holder with 10,0 - some clocks did show 9,9. Hary here at the olympics he was under enorme pressure, with the form of his world record running in Zürich here he world run faster, perhaps 10,1.

I wonder if they changed the rules and the athletes could pass the baton where they decided.
That would see most disqualifications disappear and bring in an element of tactics.

musik102, thanks for the thought provoking comment....like the team could be comprised of a Houston McTear running a 60m 1st leg.....Bob Hayes running a 120m 2nd leg.....Jim Hines running a 100m 3rd leg....and Carl Lewis bringing it home by running a 120m final leg....and pass it anywhere.....it seems like it would make the relays more competitive....cuz tactics would be heavily involved. Food for thought in a world that offers very little....and we at ImaSportsphile web page love it!!!!

I can understand his anger towards Norton, I don't think Sime comes across as bad at all.
