It might be 2022 but there's nothing better than sitting in bed with a pot of English breakfast on a cold winters night watching old school corrie.bliss.🌧☔🇦🇺😊
If this was Coronation Street from 2022, Bet’s neighbour would have turned out to be a crazy psychopath with pictures of her plastered all over his walls and a few of her personal possessions he managed to swipe. The story line would end with Bet being kidnapped for days before Eddie Yates rescues her by kicking the door down. I am loving 80’s Coronation Street with its simple storylines and northern humour. I haven’t watched it for years but I am absolutely hooked on these classic episodes. Thanks so much for uploading them.
but then with a last breath the assailant would fire a final shot at the triumphant eddie who would fall on his knees landing on the already traumatized bet and killing her with his fat body and then the tabloids would report it as a tragic love triangle [to be continued]
The scenes between Stan and Hilda in bed ill are absolute comedy gold.. such brilliant timing! Corrie was a work of art throughout the Podmore years! More people need to see this, thanks for putting it on again!
Can’t stop watching these classic episodes they are great. I was born in January 1980 so this was aired when I was around four months old. Yes I would agree that the classic Coronation Street from this period is much more listenable than today.
Why do modern soapies have to have unrealistic storylines. Serial killers ,bombers , drug barons , car crashes every day ., better to be like old Corrie and just show people as they are
I can't work out if Bet's 'Dan' reminds me more of Joseph Fritzl (the Austrian who locked his daughter up in the cellar for years) or Pat Mustard (Fr Ted milkman/shagger extraordinaire) 😂
I think the whole premise that coronation Street was originally based on doesn't really work anymore. Society has completely changed. It was based on the old industrial working class who were poor, deeply socially conservative, never went anywhere and had little to do other than gossip about neighbours. That society doesn't really exist anymore.
There have been some good characters since then - Fred Elliot, Cilla, Blanche, Reg, Alec, Phyllis etc. But nowadays it's pretty unwatchable...it's like a production line - with ever-more bizarre storylines.
Elsie to Gail at 28:26. "Don't sell your wedding presents - knowing you they'll be the only ones you ever get." Little did Elsie know that Gail would go on to have more husbands than her!
I don’t mean to be mean but look at Corrie now,,compare this week’s episode with these vintage shows,,,there’s no comparison. Corrie now is bland and boring with no character.
We all know, they tried to be more eastender, they ruined it, none my family watch it anymore and we watched it religiously with a cup of tea, we looked forward to corrie, but not anymore, thankfully we can watch old corrie classic ❤
I wonder if what Fairclough quietly said to Bert off camera about Fred @ around 2:01:40 was actually written in the Script? I'm sure he said quietly "I'm going to bloody top him" after Fred made comment about seeing a mother with her daughter on a date
@@michellefalleur960 Yes I agree, she'd never have done that. Annie was a snob with delusions of grandeur and 'Kenneth' was kept high up on a pedestal lol.
You're missing the point that for so many even that kind of mortgage was impossible and interest rates were over 10%. Council housing was the norm for most working class people then.
I wish there was an Annie Walker type character in coro these days. To me there's too many young people in it now and it's too serious, not much humour in it. I want some old battle axes back in it. To me the only one who comes close is Evelyn.
Coronation Street such good social history. It shows how inward looking and socially conservative people were back then. "Chinese takeaway? They wouldn't look at it!" There were actually a lot of people like that then.
Took me 3 goes at listening, but i eventually realised Deirdre was saying "boils growing". For a while i thought Coronation St had gone x rated !!! Listen at 2:23:02
The Eddie Yeats Guide to Eating a Fried Egg 29:56 Stab the whole egg with fork, take as biggest a bite as possible even if some of it is still hanging from the mouth while the rest of the egg hangs dripping from the fork.
Annie Walker was in fine form here in a conversation with Fred. "One assumes that the Egyptian Pharoahs thought they were hard done by. But not even the Pharoahs were visited by a plague of Ogdens". 😂
This is why coronation Street is such good social history. It's very much how society was back then. The working class in particular were often very deeply socially conservative (even though most voted labour). People had absolutely no money and never went anywhere, so their "reputation" with neighbours was all they had. When older People talk about this era as "the good old days", it really wasn't. Very depressing, repressive era in many ways.
Any chance he could just be severely introverted, shy or possibly be autistic? I saw nothing to indicate his sexuality whatsoever, and his not jumping on Bet when she was being nice to him, may just indicate someone with different taste, a lack of confidence or that he had some brains.
Although i love these characters in Corrie, im gobsmacked at the hypocritical & backstabbing Conduct of supposed best female friends! Rita is appallingly cruel behind her friends backs AND to their faces She loves & relishes others discomfort & humiliation Renee & Bett were the greatest of Pals until Renee nabbed Alf then set about getting rid of Bett then recruited Alf to vilify Bett Renee was so nice till she married Alf but has now turned into a vicious toad! Elsie is Elsie! Shes got a tongue like a laser & isnt afraid to pull someone, cat fight & scream & Bawl BUT ive never seen her be hypocritical! She always has a valid reason & is fair, shes quick to react but once shes said her piece she makes peace, forgives & forgets Rarely harbours bad feeling long The rest are Harpies, vindictive Vixens & poisoned toads But its great viewing Betts comebacks & one liners are magnificent! 2024 same in Sydney Australia!

I have binged half the '60s all the '70s and now into the "80s . Loving every minute of it 😊
Where did you find all the 70s? I’ve only saw half of them 🙂

Not only is Dan a ghastly character he is one big 🚩
Not even good looking with it!
Smoking in bed and cooking sausages and bacon in lard a few feet away! Luxury!

Exactly..
Because the world's moved on and the programme moved with it
I can't work out if Bet's 'Dan' reminds me more of Joseph Fritzl (the Austrian who locked his daughter up in the cellar for years) or Pat Mustard (Fr Ted milkman/shagger extraordinaire) 😂
He's really horrible, isn't he? I'm hoping he's now gone for good.
I must google this Pat Mustard character i like the sound of him
I just love Mrs Walker. The way she handled Stan and Albert was brilliance
Binge watching in 2024.

Today's Corrie is trash compared to these classic episodes.

Hiya truly appreciate your videos. 🐝🇨🇦
2:32:07 Classic Hilda and Stan...Haha...Great acting from Jean And Bernard.
Gail could have done with Elsie around during all the traumas she went through in later years... a formidable protector.
Fabulous to watch in bed just before going to sleep. Brilliant classic Corrie. Not like todays rubbish.
Magic Stan and Hilda are together 💯😊
Pauline and Deidre remind me of long lost sisters with the hair and glasses 😂

Elsie to Gail at 28:26. "Don't sell your wedding presents - knowing you they'll be the only ones you ever get." Little did Elsie know that Gail would go on to have more husbands than her!
There has been many double acts over the years.
But Rita & mavis there’s really was a fantastic one. I forgot just how funny they were together.
She s so cheeky and nosey in poor maxis life
Especially Mavis in bed with flu…. I’d like a drink of water.. Not cold…. but aired…Rita’s face 😂
1:06:57 - The famous Annie Walker "insult and headturn" move! Classic!
I always look forward to those Annie Walker ‘headturn’ moments!
The good old days when you can have a cup of tea
I dont watch Corrie now but im glad Gale is still in it - She is a big connection to Else Tanner her character having such a close relationship
Not for much longer. She is leaving the show.
Corrie is lost now.Britain is lost. There's a connection but i'm not allowed to say.
I know what you mean to say..l
Not the same without Mrs Sharples😢
Let me guess it’s bigoted

Arnold Swain was a bad bar steward. His last episode was terrifying.
Granada TV must've had a stiff royalties bill for all the hit tunes of the day they play.
Mike’s assistant looks and sounds just like Deidre!! 🤣😂
“We don’t want to get into any debt.” Well, what does she think buying a house is??! 🤣😂

Annie should have let Stan back and barred pompous Ken instead, for interfering in the running of her business.
She would probably never do that, as he's sort of " posh " , where as she looks at Stan as a kind of pleb
@@michellefalleur960 Yes I agree, she'd never have done that. Annie was a snob with delusions of grandeur and 'Kenneth' was kept high up on a pedestal lol.

Wow! In today’s money, the house that they want to buy is 86,000 pounds!! 😂🤣
95% mortgages 🤗 ordinary people had a chance back then
You're missing the point that for so many even that kind of mortgage was impossible and interest rates were over 10%. Council housing was the norm for most working class people then.
I laughed in a later episode when Gail and Brian said their mortgage was going to be £100 a month and whole house was £13,000.
Louise could have been an interesting character. Feisty. Too bad she made such an early exit.
I get the impression that they may have filmed more scenes with her but cut them
wonder who played her, did she ever get any other parts in other programmes.
The character Louise Clayton was played by Janet Rawson and she has roles listed in 21 productions on IMDB from 1979 - 2009.

Coronation Street such good social history. It shows how inward looking and socially conservative people were back then. "Chinese takeaway? They wouldn't look at it!" There were actually a lot of people like that then.
In a 1979 episode Rita and Len Fairclough were eating a Chinese takeaway (spare ribs) at their dinner table with plates table cover etc 😂
Not all people were like that. My family certainly weren't.
Coronation Street was always a bit old fashioned and behind the times compared to real life.
Took me 3 goes at listening, but i eventually realised Deirdre was saying "boils growing". For a while i thought Coronation St had gone x rated !!! Listen at 2:23:02
She says “he used to say to his teacher it was his bones growing!” Explaining the squeaking hamster hid in his school bag.🙂

ivy and her brian its sick the way she goes on about him .
Bets neighbour strikes me as one of them folk who go through their whole life not knowing they are gay - poor lad
Sadly, something of a necessity for many people in those days. Hard to understand just how homophobic society (and the law) was back then.
