- I had the privilege of spending the day with four actors from Band of Brothers - Matthew Leitch (Talbert), Doug Allen (More), Tim Mathews (Penkala), and Mark Lawrence (Dukeman) on a tour of Easy Company's battlefields in the Netherlands. These are some of the best stories they shared with us while we traveled to the Crossroads battlefield.

I am a simple man, I see Band Of Brothers, I click.
me too man, me too.

@@VloggingThroughHistory Thanks for the amazing content Chris. Would like to recommend the WW2 podcast “We have ways of making you talk” with James Holland. Really cool stuff
Same here
The story about Winters saying it was like seeing ghosts is so impactful. Hit me like a ton of bricks.
Same. Reminds us he wasn't some mythical figure. He was a human being who was still impacted deeply by events from over 50 years earlier.
I legit had to pause and take a break there. Grab a drink. I don't even know if they realized what a compliment that was, but I hope they realized he wasn't being rude.
Just imagining what that must have been like for him, it must have been incredibly unsettling. The phrase "you look like you've seen a ghost" gets thrown around a lot, but in this case it must have legitimately felt that way. Or like looking through a crack in time. It's honestly chilling to think about it.
@@VloggingThroughHistory i dont know if you know this but there is 1 prety good show on netflix it is peaky blinders i know this much it is not historically correct but it describes and shows and depicts what English looked like after the First World War and what horrors British soldiers had to experience in the Soms and the First World War
Love Peaky Blinders! Some of it was filmed in the pub owned by my great great great grandfather, the Old Toll in Glasgow.
It is amazing that all of the British actors sounded like Americans, then you hear them speak with their actual accents. I had seen Damien Lewis in other parts and he really caught the spirit of Dick Winters.
The story about Bill Guarnere moving the drink killed me 😂
To meet Speirs must’ve really been something else. WWII hero and he made a combat jump into Korea. I know that he had two awards of the Combat Infantryman Badge which I just couldn’t possibly imagine going through all that
What an interesting story about Winters, can't imagine how it would be like to see the faces of people who look so much like your old friends staring back at you. Especially when they look the same as they did 50 years ago.
We had Matt Leitch on our Band of Brothers tour last summer 2022. He was a laugh a minute. Really enjoyed hearing his stories. Great trip!!!
For The Real Winters see these Actors portray some of the guys that Surrvied the War or Died during the War, Yeah that can make u really feel bad & just want to go home. That just shows what great show & much care & Love that Show did get.
There isn't a much more of a "Yeah, this captured it pretty well" stamp than Dick Winters saying it's like looking at ghosts and walking away.
I think it must be time for me to watch the series again. Thanks for sharing this amazing experience.
I was on the same tour in September 2017. The actors with our group were James Madio and Ross McCall. Both were perfect gentlemen and made an incredible experience all the better with their presence and storytelling. Incredible trip from start to finish.
Would you know if these tours are still going?
@@Clancy1994 Hi Shane, the tours are most certainly still being offered. I suggest visiting the website for the WWII Museum in New Orleans. There is an extensive section for their travel program which contains information on all available tours.
for anyone wondering, this particular tour was actually put together by Wehappyfew506, which is spearheaded by Matt Leitch, who played Talbert, himself. It was a tour just about the Market Garden campaign for Easy Co., but super super amazing. I was on the tour as well. WHF506 is also doing a tour to Bastogne this November and again in January. Can only recommend their tours, everyone is super friendly, it's like hanging with friends, and we always have loads of fun
I would not be surprised if all of the actors to a man said this was their favorite project to work on. From your videos you can see how much being a part of this meant to them. I will always be grateful for them bringing the story of Easy Company to life, as well as Stephen Ambrose for writing the initial book. Thanks to them this story will never be forgotten.
So glad that you captured all of this.
Drinking with Wild Bill could have been a mini series all it’s own 😂
Absolutely. What an amazing memory for them.
I am always taken aback when finding out that one of the actors is British when they sounded so good as portraying an American. I knew of some of the actors as being British, I didn't realize this gentleman was as well. Just another click to add to the brilliant acting they all did in Band of Brothers. It is so amazing the time they were able to spend with the men they portrayed when they could. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad to have found this and subscribed. Love BOB and most certainly appreciate the actors for being passionate about their roles of two decades ago. Had the pleasure three weeks ago of visiting Kaprun, Zell am See, Berchtesgaden (Eagles nest was closed due to snow), Kaufering's IV and VII, Rommel's gravesite, Penkala/Muck at Luxembourg Am Cem, Bastogne, Foy, Rachamps and Malmedy. So much respect for them!
Oh man this was incredible! i honestly didn't even notice that 15 mins went by, man i could listen to these stories for hours.
Would love to see you share more of these in the future!
I recently watched both Band Of Brothers and The Pacific for the very first time amazing shows appreciate and love them so much. I heard they were supposed to be making a new show as well.
Yes, should come out later this year on AppleTV - "Masters of the Air".
Really good stuff, thank you! I love the line from Talbert to Winters in Crossroads "they ain't as smart as you and me", and then Winter's reaction. Best series ever!
I enjoyed this video, and can attest to the fact that when you get veterans of the 506, 501 and 517 together with a stocked bar you just need to sit back and listen. I have had the honor of doing that on at least six occasions in Toccoa for the reunions that were held there from 2001 until last year. The friendships I made there and still have with the few who are left are the greatest I have had as are the men and their Wives who loved and cared for them.
God Bless them and all of our Veterans and Currahee!
Hearing how babe reacted to Dukeman really hit me
Good to be reminded that those Vets are still human and not some kind of mythical hero. Kudos.
Thanks so much for uploading this! Great way to relive those moments on the tour. It was such an awesome weekend and the little things are easily forgotten, but now I can watch it anytime to relive it
For totally underrated reasons I just got done re-watching band of brothers with my wife because she never seen it. She had no idea just how real the show got and the story of Easy Company of the 506th infantry regiment.
I wish the film industry would cast Matthew in more films! I haven’t seen him in anything since The Dark Knight
The actors obviously had an incredible experience filming as well be associated with various get togethers and events afterwards. It had to be unbelievable.
This must have been amazing. Their stories are amazing. I just had to share this with my best friend who also loves Band of Brothers.
What an incredible experience that must have been visiting those locations with those guys. It must have been a little surreal I'm sure. I could listen to their stories all day long.
How did I miss this video? Brb, reliving every second.
Awesome to see it back again
So crazy to hear their real voices
love this LOL I remeber at the battle of the bulge reenacment (every Jan from 1993 too 2004 , Fort Indaintown GAP, PA we always had the the vets and troopers from other units)when Bill & Babe told us about being on set (7:30 mark) and out drinking everyone during the filming of eps 5. Bill called them "Weak" but they had alot of fun with everyone, in 2017 i talked with Ron Ligniston and he was like oh they kicked our butt, but also said as everyone had to work they didn't want to be wiped out. Bill was deff a ladies man he would be chasing skirts at the events lol man they were full of piss & vinger evey year when we had them all in the E co. barrack's at GAP or Reading, PA they were young agine drinking singing telling stories (8:39 mark) "Being around them drunk was even better" OMG hell yes it was , yeah i spent a drunken night sitting on my bunk with Bill talking about the killing he did i had just finnished basic and AIT at fort Benning so he would give me shit for being a LEG (during the public battle i shot a PW he came up to me after shook my hand and said that was the only accurret thing he saw), my promtion to SGT. in E co (1997) was epic as we had to get swirly's in the laterin during a church service with every one singing and bother Tiny giving the blessing the Maj. and all the vets were laughing after i got mine Bill was right their to shake my hand saying "Dam, we did some sick shit, but not that, good on you Sarg" with a big smile later before i blacked out he comes up "look i found 2 beers let's drink em" to this day no idea what i said to him but as it went black i heard him "Oh your going to feel that in the morning , Sarg" oh so many good times with them (sadly most ended up drunk esp with the Prop Blast, so some r very fuzzy )
Congratulations on 300k only 700k away from 1 million
Wow, what an awesome experience. I found your channel just a few weeks ago and when I heard you were going on this trip I was so excited I had to SUBSCRIBE!! Thank you for your great content.
Thank you Kimberly! Glad to have you here.
Thank you so much for sharing this 🇺🇸
June 1, 2024 is the D Day run in Toccoa.
Best TV show ever! Great watch this video was
Thank you for sharing
Haya. Great stories, I could have listened to soooooo much more. All those that survived to meet them must be just incredible. To of met anybody from the original Easy company must of been hugely poignant & leaves solid memories (of course this goes for anybody at/in any timeline) All those before are passing in time, the new generation will not have the chance to hear directly from those that once were alive to tell about their journeys, thanku goodness we have technology to be able to watch any such recording to see & hear what they went thru; not forgetting books which are always my favored source. Thanku so much for sharing.
This is great!
Matthew Leitch looks exactly the same. He hasn’t changed one bit since I first saw Band Of Brothers.
He’s an awesome guy. Absolutely hilarious but also has immense respect for the men of Easy Company.
Such a cool experience. I bet you enjoyed yourself alot
You are getting into some great places
Awesome content, bravo
Hi, Chris, very interesting, it must have been so interesting spending time with them.
It was great. Awesome guys. Couldn't have been more kind and generous with us throughout the day. They're talking about doing another event in Bastogne this December and I'm planning to take the whole family.
Great video dude. I’m so jealous
Cool bit about Chet hanks in the shot lol
That's really cool.:)
Wow wow wow! That’s all I can say.
What tour was this? I'm going to Europe next year and would love to experience this.
It was a one time thing sponsored by We Happy Few 506 podcast. They may be doing another one in Bastogne in December.
@@VloggingThroughHistory thanks!
0:26 I had to check the playback speed on the video. He's just talking so fast it sounds like it's in 2x speed lol
Hi VTH. Unrelated to the video but I have a question. What are some good books related to American history, reconstruction, and the civil war? I know ur an expert on the subject so I was wondering if you had any specific recommendations.
i wonder if there is any midway veterans left and how they reacted to the new movie
How many of the actors in Band of Brothers were Brits? Obviously, quite a few.
Just off the top of my head the Brits I can think of played: Winters, Talbert, Heffron, Martin, Dukeman, More, Leibgott, Grant, Popeye, Cobb, Strayer, Welsh, Christensen, Dike, Ranney, Blithe, Penkala, and Janovec.
Are you going to the BOB Symposium in August, Chris?
Haven’t decided for sure but I’d definitely like to! I think it’s sold out though.
@@VloggingThroughHistory I think under the museum's website they have more hotel packages with the symposium
@@VloggingThroughHistory Oops guess I was wrong it says it's sold out for the in person attendance. However! There is still free virtual registration for it
Tbh I always forgot Matthew was British
Probably 2/3 of the cast was.
@@VloggingThroughHistory Dang I keep forgetting about that because they pulled off their American accents so well lol
They really did.
@@VloggingThroughHistory Albert Blithe ? [ Marc Warren ] ( you mentioned Penkala [ Tim Mathews ] already, so he is on your list also.)
Yo
React to sabaton midway
Well, that dog story at the end shows just how ridiculous the film industry can be. Of all the great dogs in the world, friendly ones that love and crave all of the attention that they can possibly get, with great owners that would love to be part of a film production, they found a crappy woman with a crappy dog and hired them instead. Why do I say crappy? Well, if the dog is bad, then it most certainly means that the owner is bad too. Go ahead, tell me off. I don't care. I am sticking with my opinion because I believe it holds true 99% of the time. No one should ever be bitten by a dog that is lent out for work. Ridiculous.
