Also a good thing to do with template is to save carefully crafted trigs for drum pattern or other into the last bank. Then in any project you can go to your template bank and copy/paste trigs to have instant groovy drum break.
When you get good at the octatrack I image you are able to sort of visualize the internal structure of the machine and know where you need to go to do what you want to do.
Your videos are great - you explain well and they are actually interesting (not just the quality instruction, but the stream of thought and visual gags). Real quality stuff. One tip - when I make a template for any piece of gear, I know I'll stupidly save over it, so once I have the template set, i save it as a template, then save a backup template to I can re-save that as the master template when I accidentally wreck it.
In the beginning it‘s good to save the template several times (save as new) as you will „destroy“ your template and the push the wrong save button when you start as a newbie toddler
When I was first learning how to do stuff, I found it helpful to set up everything from scratch each time. Now that that info is now somehow in my head I welcome your template idea.
You might want to adjust record buffer and gain staging for your templates, but these are intricate topics. Also for midi tracks, in midi arp setup (midi - double click on amp) you can put a scale to quantize your outgoing midi notes. And the other obvious stuff as midi channel, clock and the personal settings (rec button behaviour, ..)
I have a project saved on the computer A template also I have the possibility on the computer to save banks and copy them (just simply rename them) so when I go into the next bank everything is as I want it to be :) Also have many norddrum CC channels set up etc
Great vid. Really clearly explained 10/10. Love the "familly involved" part and you have a great sense of humour aswell. I've subscribed. Keep up the good work Octa Daddy!
first video of you I watch, love it, subscribed. great tips here, i just bought an octatrack this week. first question: if i understand correctly you can have 8 miditracks, and 8 audio tracks right? so what if you have both your digitona and peak (or any other two external synths) connected, how can that word audiowise with only the octatrack track 5 like you mention? can you route audio of both in one track?
Sure, you create a Thru Machine and in SRC (source) you choose level for InAB and InCD, you can also monitor the 4 Inputs in the mixer (only master effects then)
just got my OT yesterday and realize I need a patch bay so I don’t fk up mah OT ports from overuse Will be alternating between 5 different stereo sources (iPad/Mac/Deepmind/Deluge and Machinedrum - and two mono synths (MS-1/Neutron) ... (plus maybe new effects and synths in future) ... Anyone recommend any particular patch bay model that would cover my nipples?
Howdy. I’ve owned this apparently atrocious apparatus in the past. I can’t recall exactly. Is it possible to use one project and have all your sampling time available therein ?
Sure, you got all 85mb for your actual project state, it even goes to „part“ level as these are assigning the samples - record buffer is for projects though
i would appreciate if you tailored your cultural content more to octadads- i don’t relate to your cultural references of these royals of leon. i’m not cultured enough to care about these frogs. other than that note everything else was daddy’s favorite.
Hi friend...! Where are ufrom? What a tobeytoneyvoice!!!! ..hmmmmrrrhhhhhhhhh you feel me? From C Canada to the uk .... no..... you are using a bibo Alesis, dont you. Hmmmmmrrrhhhhhhh.... :)
I’d love to see you push this to its limit, Jexus style

Stop watching the news dude, you will feel better
As soon as you open your template, immediately save to new. Your original template remains unchanged and now you’re destroying a different project.
Is there no lock feature like on the digitone/digitakt?
I do the exact same on my Digitakt. Load template -> save to new : "my track name" and then starting to create.
I guess I'm quite randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to watch newly released movies online?
@Jamison Khalil thank you, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it !!
@Chance Parker You are welcome :)

that’s a super good and underrated point. i had a similar experience before making a template so it worked for me too. thanks for that insight!
I hope your desk is messier than last time !
