This is not Korean pop. Not every Asian that brings out music is kpop lol.. Jungkook (BTS) brings out every genre of music.

Kpop is short for Korean pop, Kpop is an industry not a genre, meaning theres no specific genre for it. bts is a kpop group, that’s why they are invited and awarded in KPOP award shows. so jungkook IS part of Korean pop, their music might be diverse but they’re still kpop artists. There are a lot of different K-industries like K-r&b, K-Hiphop, K-indie, K-Rock, etc. but bts themselves say the industry they are in/represent is kpop. Being a kpop artist is not an insult or a bad thing. Better than to be called a part of American pop for me.

Weird when people are like “I’m ready to try not to like it” with Korean artists. Like, really? You’re gonna dismiss so much good music for what and for who? Do people think it’s cool to hate on every single popular thing still, or anything different from US charts? And not everything popular in Korea is “idol k pop” and shallow/generic. They made their own lanes and have outsold/gained more fans than so many western artists.
Members of BTS are truly one of the only groups I know who have consistently made amazing music without always sounding the same or sticking to one genre or subject. You’re missing out if you’re not coming in with open minds and just appreciating music. It’s about how the lyrics and songs make you feel, not what other people assume about them. Or what you think you should say to sound “too cool” to admit BTS members are straight talented.
Stop sleeping. This group has some of the best vocalists, rappers, and albums I’ve ever heard. And that’s not even mentioning their live performances.
Remember when Dr Sam Richards said in his lecture, I think somewhere in 2018. He said if you wanna compete in the global market, you gotta know who BTS are (I rephrase of coz 😅). At that time BTS just broke TS' RUclips record of most view in 24hrs. The record is 45M views. The record has been broken several times after that but BTS still hold the record with 108M.
People tends to resist those at the top giving multiple excuses. Overrated, over hype without knowing why they are at the top. It's not an overnight success. Songwriters and producers of this song wouldn't trust Jungkook if he didn't have impressive experience (with BTS of coz) throughout the years. He and BTS earned it through their blood, sweat and tears.

Jung Kook is from the biggest boyband BTS, one of the seven members- the main vocalist but in the group they have four vocalists and three rappers.
Since they are Korean (it is K-POP) and usually they sing in Korean but he wanted to debut his solo album fully in English to extend his music for western audiences, that’s why the song and other songs from his album ‘Golden’ are only in English.
He was actually inspired by MJ so he paid homage to him in the song as you can hear the beat of the song and see his dancing, the way MJ does but also adding his own style to it.
If you want to hear more of him, you should see his other MV’S like (Seven. Ft. Latto/3D ft. Jack Harlow) and other songs from his album but he also has solo songs from BTS group albums like - Euphoria, My time, Still With You, Stay Alive, Begin…They’re all in Korean.
For BTS Hip Hop kinda music, there’s are songs like - Mic Drop, Run and more. The most popular songs are - On, Boy in Luv, Fake Love, Black Swan, DNA utc…
For English songs - Dynamite, Butter and Permission To dance which are pretty popular for western listeners but I hope you will get to know them more and can try to dive deeper into their music with deeper stories behind the music they make since they pretty much paved their way to the top with their talent and voice for honest lyrics and feelings how they struggled the first years when they debuted.

Ok, as others said, this is very much not K-pop but American pop - just performed by a Korean artist. This song was a homage to MJ, so it makes sense that it seems "copied" because it is heavily inspired by MJ. It was written and produced by Americans. Although, K-pop was inspired a lot by American music in general.
If you want to listen to "K-pop" from BTS, avoid their English trilogy (Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance). They are great songs but completely in English and mostly written by English-speaking producers and songwriters. They are some of the only songs BTS members didn't take part in writing or producing (except Butter - RM took part in it)
Also, JK is indeed a member of BTS - he is their main vocalist. They are not only the biggest K-pop group but the biggest group in the world.
BTS stands for 방탄소년단 (Bangtan Sonyeondan). They are a 7-member group with 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. They debuted in 2013 and are currently on a hiatus to complete their mandatory military service (the oldest finished a few days ago) but still release music as soloists. They write, compose and produce their music along with their in-house producers. They come from a very small label and reached the top without industry support.
They shine because of their good music, meaningful lyrics, incredible live performances and their humble and caring personalities.
They all are extremely successful soloists as well, experimenting with different styles just like they do with BTS.
If you want to listen to K-rappers you can listen to RM, Agust D (SUGA in BTS) and j-hope. The BTS Rap Line is the best in the K-pop industry but their vocalists (Jin, Jimin, V and Jung Kook) are just as good
If you want to learn more about them you could watch Boracity Magazine's video essays. They are well-researched and really interesting to know more about the music industry
If you check out some of their Korean music, you should pull out Doolset's translation on the side. They are accurate translations and give context and cultural references that you won't get. Their lyrics are a huge part of their success so it would be great if you took the extra step!

The fans ruin it tbh, they’re the main reason. As much as I would hate to admit it, the BTS fandom reputation is on the ground, that’s why kpop especially BTS is so disliked and never acknowledged as good artists. It shouldn’t be a big deal but fans do actually ruin your view of the artist and may prevent you from enjoying it. As an example, I’m a TXT and BTS fan and find it sooo hard to enjoy SKZ because of what I’ve seen from their fandom and the hate they throw against TXT and BTS, I don’t want to dislike them and always try to look for their flaws but I do, why? Bc of their fans.

Hey guys as a fellow Aussie I can pretty much guarantee that if you listen to the radio you’ll probably have heard Jungkook before without realising it. You should definitely check out Too Much his collab with The Kid Laroi & Central Cee & his other singles Seven featuring Latto & 3D featuring Jack Harlow, they are also all in English, just like all the tracks from his debut album Golden.
Jungkook is a global superstar in the making in his own right, he also performed his song Dreamers at the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup but sadly he is currently serving his mandatory military service in the Korean Army.
This song was a homage to MJ. The BTS members are MJ fans. There are 3 rappers in the group (and Jungkook is a sub-rapper) and 4 vocalists. This is one of the most talented, versatile groups you'll find so I hope you listen to more.
BTS is one of the TOP best versatile groups but there is TXT, ENHYPEN, ATEEZ, NCT, SEVENTEEN, etc which three of those groups are literally versatile both in members and music.

if you were looking for something different with Korean rap, JK's bandmate RM released a critically acclaimed new album about a month ago called "Right Place, Wrong Person" that has five MVs from songs on the album. BTS as a group also incorporates rap in almost all of their songs, because they have 3 rappers and four vocalists in the group. JK himself is a sub-rapper and a main vocalist of the group.
One comment - going into BTS with the attitude of "I thought I was going to be listening to some Korean shit" isn't exactly great. BTS are known for their deep and meaningful lyrics that touch on issues like mental health, societal issues, the need to love oneself, etc...and yes, they largely do it in Korean because that's their native language. RM speaks English fluently, but the rest are learning and are at various levels of ability to speak it (I think most can pick up a fair amount of what they hear, but speaking a language that is not your own is always harder).
JK's purpose with his album "Golden" was to reach towards his goal of being the only artist to be a top artist in both K-pop and [western] Pop. The whole album is in English, and it was written and produced by western writers/producers. JK chose all of the songs for the album, but while he does write/produce songs for BTS and for himself (such as his latest single "Never Let Go" released a couple of weeks ago), he didn't write/produce this one.

Yes jungkook is a part of BTS he's the youngest out all seven members and has the Fandom name army tattoo on his knuckles. All 7 members are now serving their mandatory military service in the korean military. And will be all back in 2025. We can't wait for their return. 71 year old BTS Army here. Jungkook or JK for short is the main vocalist for the Global phenomenon BTS. BTS was recently named as the "Most Streamed Group of All Time". His label announced this track as a subtle homage to MJ. It was his third Official solo release leading up to his record setting album "Golden" that currently has 3.4 billion streams. Jung Kook is known for his rare perfect pitch. He did a big feature song with Charlie Puth called "Left and Right" a couple of years ago. Jungkook is not K-pop. He is a mainstream pop star. This song is in English and was written by western mainstream op writers, so not K-pop. He is the main singer for the biggest band in the world and has amazing vocal skills. If you don't know Jungkook or BTS, open your minds and educate yourselves. They are incredible on so many levels.
