- In this video, I make a Steel Knot Metal Handle which is an Industrial Style Metal Handle, bending rebar to make the knot. I love the look of industrial furniture and all the decor that comes with it, and this rebar handle has the look I like. I hope you enjoy my video of the project, it was a lot of fun to make.
The main tools used, are a MIG welder, angle grinder, drill, and bench vise.
The Rebar in the handle is 7mm, the wide flat bar is 50mm wide, 250mm long, and 3mm thick, the smaller flat bar is 32mm wide, 207mm long, and 6mm thick, and the bolts are 25mm across the head and 50mm long, the shaft of the bolt is 16mm.
Tools / Supplies, I often use are.

Always use all the correct safety gear, and use your tools safely, I am not a good role model for this.
Hope you found something of use in my video or at least found it entertaining.
Gavin Clark DIY
Note: When you bend metal/rebar, you naturally weaken it. Bending it cold will normally cause fine cracks, and it may even break if you put enough strain on the rebar or bend it in the same place too many times. Do not rely on cold-bent steel/rebar to support a load.
Finally someone that knows to show the finished product right up front in the video to generate interest in the video.
It's astounding how many videos I have to fast forward thru just to see what the heck is getting made.
Give this guy an Academy Award for doing his video the right way. He shows the door handle at the beginning!!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Brilliant. And it a pleasure to finally see someone that actually knows the correct use of a file ,one way stroke .
Thank you very much.

His high school metalwork teacher must have missed a few things though. Keep your work low in the vice to be more efficient and avoid vibration chatter and never use a file not fitted with a handle. Still, a nice end product. A cheap 4 speed Ryobi pedestal drill from Bunnings would help. I really like your good old Aussie metal work bench.
Haha, I thought the exact same thing. Was taught by a machinist when I was in grade school.
добродушный,жизнерадостный и простой человек,очень приятен
Большое спасибо за очень хороший комментарий.

Even the birds were cheering when you got the pieces together! I like how you did everything without big, fancy tools. Great video, thanks.
Thanks so much, I am glad you liked it, thank you for your comment.
That's the most beautiful handle I've ever seen. It's a real pleasure to see a true craftsman at work. I've never worked with metal or welded anything in my life but watching that has given me the urge to try it. Thanks for posting Gavin, excellent job mate 👍
Thank you very much for your awesome comment, I greatly appreciate it.
I used to be a rodbuster (reinforcing ironworker) and I've tied it in nuclear power plants to skyscrapers. Parking decks to bridges. Footings to columns. Bank vaults to foundation walls. From #2 to #18 rebar. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think to do something like this. Outstanding work mate.👍Just goes to show your never too old to learn something new. 🤯
Thank you very much I am glad you liked it, and especially from a rodbuster. Thanks mate.
You get very good things from ordinary rebar scraps, handmade work is appreciated now.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Brilliant idea. I think I'll have a go at that and maybe add semicircles with short legs on at the back of each bolt to make the bar look like endless loops passing through the bolts. Your ideas are inspiring. I never watch one of your video's and fail to come away better educated and with a head full of potential projects. Thank you and regards from Scotland.
Thank you very much, I am happy that you liked it. Greetings from Australia.
Sir, you are a person with an excellent perspective and development of your work. My respect and admiration.

Your work is very impressive.
About 3 years ago I had need for handles like this, for a project I had in mind.
For various personal reasons, since then I've had no enthusiasm to be creative.
You've inspired me to get back into it.
Thank you.
Thank you very much True Aussie, I am glad you liked it. I wish you the best for your projects.
I been a fabricator for many years. you got skills I did tons of production work. It takes a true craftsman to make thinks form basic tools without punches and presses mills and torches. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful work.

I ve admire your masterpiece great job, I have learn something considering the fact that I was struggling with a thinner piece of metal now I know how to straing it up beautiful well done, thank you MASTER
Thank you very much I am glad you found something useful in my video. Thank you for your comment.
Inspirational, great to see someone making something like this without having to use expensive tools. Even a basic welder can be purchased fairly cheaply these days. I have a feeling some of these will be adorning my property soon
Thank you very much, you have nailed my thoughts on lots of expensive gear, there are other ways, I am glad you liked my video, I really appreciate your comment.
From start to finish, what was your time?

Some heat always makes thing easier for sure. This was a great build. I learned a lot. Thank you. And BTW- I like the big vise. Looks like a beast.
Thank's very much, I am glad you liked it. Yes lots easier with a bit of heat, I like to do it cold with the gentle persuasion of my hammer. I love my vise too, an awesome chunk of steel. Thank you for your comment.
What beautiful work. It was a pleasure watching you turn some ordinary items into something so spectacular. Thanks for sharing.

I have seen a few videos already, incredible how well it looks and how well you work, congratulations, but for my taste the second plate, the one with the holes to fix it to the door, you could do without it and make the holes in the What has the handle for my taste is better, more aesthetic, but we must recognize that your works are incredible and they are a gift to see them, a greeting
Thank you very much, I am glad you like my work. We all have different tastes in what we like, I also like it the way you described with just the one plate, Thank you for your comment.

I’m in the process of making a gate, I think I’ve seen the handle that I want to put on, hope you don’t mind me copying this, great video, subscribed.

A million views . What can I say?
Great idea, skillful execution.
A coupla drops of oil on the barrel of your vice will stop the chatter.
Fantastic piece of old boiler room floor plate for your bench. After you've walked into that corner once you wont do it a second time , Ouch.
Hope there are no grandkids around.
I like how your workbench is fixed firmly to the floor and wall. Nice and solid.
Good looking workshirt.
I think I have the same number of raucus birds in my yard too. Them and the wattle birds and the ravens sure kick up a storm.
Thank you very much. I will give my vice a bit of a service soon, yes my bench is old and very heavy, not at all flat on the top either, it is not bolted down or to the wall it is just heavy and solid. I don't mind the birds, but their noise does sound louder on the video. Thank you for your comment.
