    Disclaimer: I have no hate for Sufferhymn and he is indeed amazing at creating great RUclips content! I just think if the FF14 VAs already said that they don’t want anyone using AI versions of their voices then just respect their wishes and not do that. ❤
    Also fyi I asked Kougaon if I could react to his vid and he said I can react to any of his vids incase anyone is going to throw that kind of shade at me. 😂

    Much as I love Suffer's videos, its plain how much work and love he puts into them, its his passion, its his joy, this discussion cant leave any of us cold. We had the same discussion with former Bayonetta VA, even if her story later turned out to be not quite as accurate as she wanted us to think, still: VAs already have it hard, lets not make it worse. I understand that making fun videos about your favorite game is one thing, but its a short step to giving game companies and movie makers all the wrong ideas.

    There never is a situation where AI is ethical when the people whose voices are being AI’d actively speak out about against it. Either get the real VAs if possible, OR maybe hire a voice impersonator.

    • @joshnoe8673
      @joshnoe8673 3 месяца назад +1

      Why is hiring an impersonator different than using AI? Wouldn't someone doing an impersonation watch a VA's material and learn to mimic their voice based on that, just like an AI would? I agree this is sketchy, especially because the VA's are against it, but I don't think it's as cut and dry as people make it.

    • @luckytanuki5449

      @@joshnoe8673 Because they want something to be mad about. In reality, it doesnt actually matter. The dude is a small youtuber who is making videos out of passion, not big budget movies that will make hundreds of millions. Using AI to impersonate a VA for a youtube skit isnt going to cause them to lose ANY work, as the youtuber in question likely didnt have the money to hire them anyway. Its such a non issue in this situation. Plus theres an argument to be made that the VA doesnt own the character, SE does so its not up to them whether someone uses the CHARACTERS likeness to create something, not the VA's likeness.

    The biggest problem I have against AI is that people use it to cut corners and think its not harmful for others. One of the arguments for the Actor's strike is using A.I. to scan live actors' face and voice for a session, and then use A.I. for future use as if these companies own their likeness and sound for their own use.

Something like this may not seem like a big deal but think of the things people will do in the future if AI is perfected more. There are already people using AI voices to scam people, it will go even further and people will then try setting other people up and have them wrongfully accused of shit they haven’t done.

    I said it on the original video's comments, and I'll say it here again.
    I initially just said "the humor is just not my cup of tea" thinking it was spliced recordings. But when I found out it was using AI that's when my disdain for it just went up.
    Just because someone isn't on cameo and you can't access them to do work for you, doesn't mean you can just take their voice using AI. There is no logic where that is even ethically acceptable.

  • @sumfagoat
    @sumfagoat Год назад +1

    I wish it was acceptable to use AI to give voiceovers for the quests that didn't get voice acting and the actors were paid royalties for using their likeness or something. There's a lot of text quests I wish I could hear read out or expressed. Wish it wasn't such a messy situation either, the artists deserve the credit where they put in work I just wish it didn't boil down to a money issue like most things do. AI seems to be threatening a lot of art lately, which is sad I wish there was a way to balance and utilize it better

    I think this will eventually spiral into a legal debate and we would have to draw the line on what kind of "mimicry" is okay. There are clearly talented people out there that can impersonate someone's voice to an eerie degree, but for all intents and purposes, are they not also profiting on someone's likeliness?

    • @ho-sette
      @ho-sette Год назад

      the difference is they’re not profiting of _their literal voice AND likeness_ . I see impersonation as similar to commissioning a visual artist to create something “in the style of” another artist. they’re not copying anyone they’re using their human skill to create something similar inspired by another artist, not generating entirely new works by taking that persons art

    AI was a huge factor in the most recent writer & actor strike in LA. Even if Sufferhymn isn't making a profit from the videos, he's still using the VA's likeness without consent, and further training AI to be able to replicate their likeness even better. Sure it's not on the same scale as a major production company using AI in such a way, but it's still detrimental and in very poor taste.

  • @BaghNakh1

    I think Sufferhymn videos are great, I've had a good laugh at all of them and I really enjoy his style for editing. As far as I know he did paid some of the VAs on some of his work though the videos where he uses AI is pretty obvious it's AI and I'm not going to pretend I didn't watched those or I didn't had fun watching them though I too thought they were very clever and well done editing using existing voice clips, the same method he uses to put FilthyFrank/JoJi voices on his videos, as in, audio clips taken from already existing work.
    Though I agree that using AI can be harmful, at least he tried to compromise with a good middle ground which is using AI to fill in the gaps while releasing his videos without monetization in order to not profit from said VAs since they didn't consent to lend their voices. At least he does his best to reach out to the VAs on their paid platforms and pay them for their cameo on his videos.
    Regarding Twitter people: I mean cmon, everybody knows that most people on Twitter are derranged, mentally-ill lunatics who like to play pretend on their high horse and they think doing things like sending death threats to people just because they don't like them is totally ok, as if this is something normal people do on their everyday lives, and also lets be real, all of this controversy comes because they don't like Sufferhymn videos and this is just a valid excuse for them to harass the CC. I think it's totally valid to not like something or even express why you don't like it but a whole different think, a quite enormously big jump is going from "I don't like this video so I'm not watching it" to "I don't like this video, maybe I should tell this person that they should self-terminate or that I'm going to find out where they live and damage them and their families permanently by breaking the law and commiting crimes". I can absolutely guarantee that no VA involved on the situation sees that and it's like "omg I'm so happy for the support, please do illegal acts and commit crimes against an individual in my name, thank you
