These stories do the RP community dirty. I cringe when people outside Crystal assume that all RP in XIV is just clubs, venues, dating exclusively in the game, etc etc. There is a whole chunk of the community that consists of people who just genuinely want to write stories with other people and create a character and immerse themselves in the game world. I haven't been to a venue in YEARS and I am a regular RPer. I absolutely hate the club scene in this game because of the people that Pathra frequently shares the stories of. It's filled with people like this who just use XIV as some virtual Las Vegas (what happens in XIV stays in XIV).
OP is so good at storytelling because chat and Pathra kind of just forgot that OP was in a relationship and did in fact also cheat. It's kind of crazy that they just forgot about Murph and wanting to seem like a saving grace for *someone else's relationship* instead of her own. Like we don't know if what Murph even did was something that bad other than him just rushing content nor do we know how he actually feels about the whole situation. The comments saying that she has a good conscience and that op is learning a lesson or anything that caters to her being the bigger person are kind of baiting to defending her because while the guy threw her under the bus and is awful, she's no better cause she allowed herself to not only cheat but doesn't care enough about her own relationship to give us closure on that behalf. I wish the best for all parties involved but this whole thing across the board is some crazy energy and it feels like op isn't invested in her own relationship at all and would either need to focus and be more flexible there or find her own peace.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed that. My own partner leaves me behind sometimes too bc he just wants to get it done and is rushing, especially with fates and hunts where you need to keep up with everyone. And while it’s very frustrating at times, all I have to is remind myself that it’s not ill intended and him to slow down a little for me Maybe their relationship was already really unstable and him ignoring her/not talking and riding off without her is just an extension of that. 100% agree with your comment regardless
Like I've been on this game a long time and I've seen crazy takes and energies on here so I do get the kind where partners want to experience the game together but it's like I was telling my friends while we were watching the video, a lot of players tend to think that not running content or being in other parties means that their partners are cheating on them. It's not always that case and it's hard when that's the take you put in your own head. Hopefully that wasn't op's thought that led her to cheating
what? They didn't forget, OP said it multiple times and every time they brought up cheating they said "we" as in they were both cheating on their partners, the reason there was no reason to really talk about OPs bf further was because OP already resolved it him, she literally said that when she confessed about the cheating to him he was understanding and they stayed together. Also throughout the ENTIRE story, like literally from start to end she is saying that what she did was wrong, she's clearly not trying to hide that or even skirt around that fact. Like were you not listening or what?
If you're afraid of roleplaying "badly", remember that it's fully possible to roleplay in a comedic or non-serious manner. It all depends on what you're all trying to get out of it!
There is absolutely wholesome RP out there, but you aren't going to find it in Quicksands or Limsa. Actual RPers don't really advertise like that, and they tend to either play in party or tell (or sometimes say because it's short distance), so a lot of what you'll find in the wild is really the worst of it, or what non-RPers think RP is supposed to be. Not to like, gatekeep or anything, but that's just how I see it. Also, in any sort of RP it is very important to keep your IC and OOC separate, that's kind of a golden rule, really.
"It is very important to keep your IC and OOC separate" Exactly this! Played on an enforced RP MUD for roughly 25 years and this is a rule that gets broken every now and again. With my experiences on XIV so far though, it's kind of made me avoid the RP side of things unfortunately. People just seem to get too attached or takes things too serious for me to want to bother when all I wanna do is just make friends, play and have fun.
Oh trust me. These people are real in the fringe sides of the game. I could tell some stories about my time in the ERP scene before I started raiding....
Well... OP knows that what she did was wrong and she learned her lesson so I guess that's the good part about this story. It's sad that she had to learn this lesson the hard way, to be honest. That's why I can not really feel sorry for her. What this Owen did was disgusting but that's what you get when you cheat. There were enough red flags I'd say and she chose to ignore them. So yeah...
I don't really feel bad for her either, I cringed when she said how guilty she felt. Like, if you feel guilty about it, then stop doing it, or better yet, don't do it in the first place! Don't act like a victim!
Yes, I feel like Pathra should've brought that up. The OP isn't innocent, but they weren't responsible for his cheating. He made the choice to cheat, if not with her, then with someone else. The only one who destroys a relationship is the cheater.
I had an experience like this, but instead of it being normal people, it was with the leader of a RP venue who threw me under the bus after his wife found out (I didn't even know he had a partner and she was hella not happy with him "rping" with other girls.) kinda ended poorly and got me blacklisted from most of the venues on that DC.
The red flags should’ve been when Owen came and brought his cheesy lines. Also the way he spoke was super cringe! I’m glad OP learned a lesson. But that lesson shouldn’t have happened. I feel like if she spoke with murph, and cleared things up, find a solution. That would’ve been helpful. But life is all about lessons. Even if they come with a price.
Most RP'ers have a strict rule about keeping irl separate from RP for these exact reasons. Roleplaying is just fiction, no different than playing D&D. People who get overly possessive of their RP partners or try to blur that line between irl/fiction tend to have a lot of personal issues or lack proper social skills. To them RPing is one of the few 'human' interactions they actually have and quickly confuse a character flirting as that player flirting and so they get their emotions tied up into it. Its why Im not terribly fond of RPing in MMO's because too many people dont have proper ground rules put in place of what is/isnt ok.
Fr, I play dnd and my characters flirt and have relationships with player characters within that, but we are AWARE that it’s only the characters and not us as players in it. I have a hard time understanding rp in an mmo bc not everyone is on that same page. I used to rp online and can kinda tell when someone is doing so or doing a bit, people like my partner who never rp CANT tell unless it’s painfully obvious and they confuse rp words for irl ones
@@DefinitelyNotAMymmik My partner and I both RP and have RP'd since middle school so luckily we dont really have that misunderstanding. But I see enough drama in the 14 RP community that I tend to stay away from it. Usually if Im RPing with someone from 14 (or anywhere really) I do a sort of 'session 0' to establish some rules before getting into the RP
To be fair, these people don't sound like RPers at all; they did not play characters beyond pressing W on their keyboard, and seem to have communicated and gone through these relationships as themselves! There's a distinction that needs to be made for Heavy RPers, where players write characters in a novel-style format. I know players that play characters like Ishgardian goldsmiths and nobles, Bozjan veterans, Limsan pirates - RPing is often an exercise in creative writing, and the most operative part of RPing is that the players differentiate between OOC and IC.
At times... I wonder how people do such things in games and have attachments or feelings.. maybe I just never associated myself in game with people's avatars vs getting to know the person in real life or something.
@ObliviousCrow I have and had complimented people on their cute avatars. But never to the point I felt damn.. something sparked an attraction because of their avatar or how they spoken to me in game. I genuinely cannot feel sorry for the OP even if they knew what they were doing was wrong before and afterwards. I don't know like it's good they now realize it the hard way but the way it's written is very eloquently to the point it makes you also feel guilty for the OP for being put in this position. Whether intentional or not... Sorry, this really rubbed me off the wrong way cuz I still don't think OP is the "bigger" person here. Though, ig the good thing is OP actually feels the guilt rather than feels proud of it so there's that.
