- After a few solo camping and hiking trips, the family and I get out together and go camping at a beautiful lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We'll be staying at Smalley Cove Campground on the Kerckhoff Reservoir. This reservoir was a great place to camp, cook good food, relax by the fire, and take the canoe out for its maiden voyage.

On camp outs I'm alright with cooking it slightly more, but yes, usually rare or blue is my go to for fillets. I heard someone say this the other day when describing how they liked their steak:
"so rare, a good vet could bring it back to life."

All of the best trout fishing rivers in the area "open" for keeping trout very soon. It's currently catch and release. After the last Friday in April you are allowed to keep 5 trout daily through November. So hopefully I'll do some catch and cooks here coming up!

What's the name of that reservoir? You've done so well always saying where you're at, but not this time.
This is Kerckhoff reservoir and I’ll be honest, I had to edit out every time I said the name because I mispronounced it every time! Kept saying Kerchoff 😅
