- 👉SUBSCRIBE! How to install and format a new solid state drive (ssd). Adding another SSD to your computer is a great way to add storage and speed up your PC. Reading and writing from multiple disks is much faster that having all your media on one drive. Multiple drives are a must for pro audio and pro video.
I will be using Windows 10, but the process is the same for other versions of Windows.
Installing another SSD is simple. Mount the drive in your case. Plug in the sata power and sata cable. Format the drive. Use QUICK FORMAT when formatting a SSD. And, that's it!

Once you have your pc for a few years you will know everything. Youre gonna run into problems, but once you come on RUclips and learn how to fix the issue, youll eventually develop an understanding of how to browse your entire computer, and edit the files. I recommend learning to mod Skyrim. This will pretty much force you to become more computer savvy.

For anyone out there wondering. This has to be one of the most straightforward and to the point videos I have watched in a while. It was exactly as described. Installed a Samsung SSD 980 Pro and man it was so good to see it all happen in one go without any problems, which usually is what happens when I do it myself! How about if I want my NEW SSD to be my primary SSD and my old SSD to be like another place where I can store my work on?
Are you going to clone your current system or install Windows fresh? If you are going to install fresh, just put the new drive in the current OS drive bay. Boot the PC, and install Windows.
Once everything is working, turn off the PC. Put the old drive in the PC in a different bay. Turn on the PC and then format the old drive (quick format for SSD) and that will erase everything on the old drive.
If you're going to clone, make sure both drives are connected, you may need to setup the new drive as per this video first, all cloning software is different. Once the clone is complete, turn off PC and switch the new drive into the bay the old drive is currently in.
Boot and make sure everything works. As long as there are no problem, turn off PC, install the old drive into a new bay, boot, format old drive.
*if your PC lets you choose which drive to boot into after the clone/fresh install, make sure you choose the new drive. Each BIOS is different and it depends on what your boot list is currently set to.
