Interesting how over 2% inflation has been a concern when central banks and the Fed begin to hike interest rates. I consider the rising interest rate to be a very serious issue since it will undoubtedly cause more investors to withdraw their money from the stock market. But then I'm still aware of certain investors that continue to earn over $365,000. Wish I could accomplish that.
Very possible! Particularly in the current market. There are several opportunities to generate excellent returns, but such intricate transactions can only be carried out by seasoned market professionals.
AGREED! Over 3 years now, I've made over 1.7 million by simply following a coach's advice. I was on the sidelines for a while watching, trying to determine the best time to get in, before I came across a coach, recommended by my wife. I'm British and I've never owned a clothes dryer. All our clothes are air dried, for free. Most people I know don't own one, or rarely use one if they do.If you can do it in cold and rainy Britain, there's no reason you can't in America. Your clothes will smell much fresher!
I live in a “luxury” apartment in Canada and the dryer in the unit is useless - it will run for hours - I hang everything to dry now. I may fluff my towels for a bit in the dryer, but it hasn’t been a big change and the electricity bill is lower.
@@giggle1971 Dryers usually run for hours because they are weighting the amount of stuff in them. If you have other objects on the drier, take them off during drying period. I do that and drying time of my clothes falls from 2 hours +, to less than one hour.

Very smart. I'm American, and where I live, I don't see many people do that, but it's a good option. I've never owned a washer or dryer-- I've always gone to the laundromat. I have an English friend, and when she moved to the U.S., she purchased a Ford Focus, stick shift, rather than automatic. This saved her money, plus she knew that no many Americans know how to drive a stick shift, so the chances of her car being stolen were nil.
In my childhood neighborhood, we had a clothesline outside and one in the basement. Today, I use a dry rack and the shower bar to hang up shirts. It lengthens the life of the clothes and it saves electricity.
That's exactly what I do too. Once I have a house instead of a condo, I'm going to use a clothesline.
I save granola bags and rice bags that have reclosable bags. I use freezer tape to id what’s inside. These bags are thicker and sturdier than most store bought bags and allow me not to buy bags. Bread bags are great to reuse for home made bread and to put Costco bread in-you have to buy more than you can use before it molds so i put 2-4 pieces of chibata bread in a bag and freeze it. And no, I didn’t buy membership, I’m on my mom’s. They also have French country loaves 2pk so I freeze the second in bread bags. I also cut up vegetables i buy into sizes I use to cook, freeze them flat so they don’t stick together. This can be done in a recloseable bag, fill less than third and lay flat, spreading the veg out. After frozen, squeeze bag to separate them. You can use a second bag to fill and one to freeze flat and keep filling the one until full. I do this with carrots i dice, broccoli and cauliflower, celery, onions, peppers and spinach. Buy fresh then freeze so none goes to waste. It works with fruit in season when it’s cheapest, to freeze and use in pies and smoothies.
I have years of experience working in grocery stores. As long as you cook or freeze your meat products by the sell by date, you’re good. Take it out of the original package and place in freezer bags. Note the date you freeze and use within three months. I also add marinade and or seasoning prior to freezing. Pull what you need for the next couple of days and your meat will marinate as it defrosts. If it smells bad, don’t eat it. I’ve saved hundreds of dollars by buying marked down meats.
We skip those high ticket prices of touring Broadway productions. Instead we have season tickets to our local community theater. An entire season of 10 productions is the cost of one touring show.
We even took it down a level last weekend and went to see a high school production of Mama Mia. Only $10 per ticket and we had a great time. Was it Broadway quality? Oh course not, but we didn't spend $100 seat (plus parking) and got to support a group of kids trying their best.

You can just empty the trash cans in the bedrooms, office and sometimes bathrooms as long as they aren’t wet to reuse those garbage bags.
We use reusable rags daily. We also employ the use of blackout curtains and definitely use natural light.

I' m 50, retired a while at 45. 1 have 35% of my capital invstments in an IRA. 25% in index funds, and the balance spread across other investment accts. in cumulative of over $ 5M saved. I receive income from my rental properties too. Zero debt and all is going accordingly..

Another frugal tip is not going to the movies. It now costs me between $15 and $20 to go and that is with a senior discount! I actually find much more interesting viewing on RUclips and Rumble.
Theaters used to be a dollar. So there's that.
I read & pull pdf's for info on gardening,etc. 25cts for a paperback at D.A.V., when i fi ish i donate them back. Havent gone to a movie in eons. Hollywood is still recycling & I'm not buying.

There's nothing new anyway. So what choice do they have? That being said, if you're not interested, you don't have to go. And it does save money not to.

I don't know how weird this is but my mom taught me to never pay full price. Whether it's groceries, utilities, clothing, insurance, vacations or bigger items like buying a car or a home...doesn't matter. Wait until items go on sale, use coupons, ask for a discount or switch brands. Even saving just 5% or 10% can make a big difference in your overall budget.
I’m exactly the same. I’ll either buy is discounted or preloved. I’ve even bought clothing I REALLY wanted when I saw it heavily discounted (and torn somewhere), take it to the local tailors to repair and dry clean and boom. Still saved money.
My dad used to say, if you get everything at half price it's like making twice as much.
When does electricity, or any other utility go on sale? I have been paying bills for 20 years, and working for the electric company for 15…. Never seen a utility go on sale

I just bargained $50 per month off my rent (because I’m a teacher). It never hurts to ask!

Repent & be saved
Hanging clothes on the line saves us a ton during the summer.
Buy generic on 99.9 percent of items.
No car payments
Rarely eat out.
Buy or rent a movie rather than movie tickets. It’s cheaper
Clothes are thrifted.
Furniture is thrifted. Spray paint fixes a ton of issues and makes it all look nice.
No credit cards
Dollar store makeup works just fine.
We use our plastic grocery sacks as garbage sacks for our smaller cans.
Cook from scratch for many things… not all.
Don’t buy junk food. Even our valentine and Easter treats are homemade treats rather than candy from the store.
Our biggest help was using a cash envelope system and making a monthly budget spreadsheet. We gave every dollar a place in the budget.
Kids only were allowed one sport at a time. And only after they got into the 9th grade. All other extra activities were not in the budget.
Didn’t take big fancy vacations.
Paid our house off after 18 yrs this past thanksgiving on one small income while raising seven kids!
Don’t have to be weird or fancy. Just use common sense and learn to hate debt! It drove us to get it all paid off! Gazzel intensity!
By paying cash for a car you have the added benefit of not being FORCED to have super-expensive collision insurance! Collision is what pays for damages that YOU cause, so if you are a truly careful driver, not needed!

I was literally coming home from giving a neighbor dinner when I had that same thought about giving saving me money. It cost me to make more food but I feel like giving will help me be grateful for what I have. Then I turned on this video and you said the same thing haha!
As a former movie theater manager, please don't use the popcorn "trick." That is totally stealing and hurting an already struggling (after covid) business! The concession stand is what keeps the business running as they get only a very small portion of ticket sales!
My friend worked at a movie theater and he was able to get free popcorn 🍿 with no limits every. single. time. that he went to the theater, even on his day off and so was anyone who was with him with up to 10 guests at a time, as long as you brought your own container.
It's about paper cost to the establishment.
It was actually the theater policy as a perk for the employees and guests of employees.
So... a lot of people in this comment section are saying that the popcorn thing is stealing, but if employees and their guests get free popcorn then I don't really know if it is stealing. 🤷🏼♀️
@ilovenoodles7483 A lot of theater chains have a similar policy but not that loose. I personally have worked for 2 different theater chains. One did allow free popcorn and drinks for the employee and 1 guest, provided they brought their own containers with them. The other had an employee combo that was $2 for a large popcorn and large drink that the employee could purchase and both items got a free refill. It isn't the paper cost that is the issue, the container is the inventoried item for inventory purposes at every theater so if the container is missing the dollar value must be accounted for in the sales.
So they can give things away for either free or way lower cost then paying customers but yet you want families to pay 10-20$ per ticket then why are employees getting unlimited amounts of free popcorn and drinks or majorly discounted popcorn and drinks ( wouldn’t they be considered they same thing your saying others are doing?)
@MMyers-mh4jq the ticket prices aren't exclusively set by the theater. A lot goes into ticket pricing that the general public is unaware of. The studios set a minimum price point for tickets that varies based on your market (region). If you live in a bigger city with lots of other theaters around, your ticket prices will tend to be higher than smaller towns with less competition because there aren't other theaters driving up the cost for your "market." This will not always be 100% the case, but it is the typical trend.
And no, the employees aren't stealing because it is a perk of the job that is spelled out in the handbook. Movie theaters typically don't pay that well, and the hours can be very slim during certain times of the year. So they offer extra perks to their employees to keep them there and happy. Free movies for themselves and a guest (sometimes more than one guest depending on the theater specific rules) and some free or discounted popcorn and drinks when they use that perk aren't going to break a company. But it can really convince a high school or college kid who loves movies to take/ keep the job since they don't have to spend their paycheck on them. 😉 Theaters typically don't have a huge staff, so the few times the employees actually use a little popcorn and soda in their own containers aren't going to make as big of an impact as several paying customers trying to reuse containers to avoid paying for concession.
Then don't charge grossly inflated prices. Theaters charge around $10 for less than 50 cents worth of product.
Being different is SMART!
The US is one of the few places that don’t dry their clothes naturally. It doesn’t have to look like you suggested. In Australia most people have a fixed outdoor clothes line(metal) but I have seen examples in wet/cold places like Denmark too.
Rachel, When you said the 2nd in list of use cloth towels instead of paper towels, your visual list printed the same thing twice “squish toilet paper” and left out your spoken second point.

No one is more frugal than my aunt and uncle were. They grew up in the depression in the mountains of westrn Maryland. They grew or made what they needed. My uncle showed me a pair on dress shoes that he had for forty years. He made most of his woodworking tools.
Check out antique and consignment stores, or charity stores for good quality furniture.

But shampoo is fine. If it will lather, it will clean. Just rinse out the bottle.
Most household cleaners are way stronger than they need to be and bad for your health! Vinegar is safe, disinfects, and can be used as glass cleaner. Your home doesn't need to be sterile. If a trash bag is dry why not?
I add vinegar to my dishwashing liquid to stretch it.
That softens the water so you dont need to use as much detetgent. I use it for laundry too.

The popcorn trick sounds like stealing to me. But then again, when my train ticket doesn't get punched by the end of a trip, I tear it up instead of reusing it in order not to steal, so maybe I'm extreme.

Nope, reusing the popcorn bag for another visit to the theater is cheap and stealing. You are getting something for free that they expect to be paid for. Getting refills when you are there on that trip is perfectly fine.

Those smart water heaters can really save some money, especially when you have solar panels and set it up to heat only during noon - not free everyday due to clouds, but much cheaper

We use rags sometimes and papertowels for really yucky stuff to preserve the rags. I have a giant old towel we use as the"spill towel" because it works better than a ton of paper towels and then we don't have to waste a bunch!
I'll give you my 3 cents worth as a very frugal person. I use paper towels for greasy things and cat messes, I first use as napkins, usually a half sheet or two per day. I'm never going to try to get that stuff out of rags and don't have enough rags to just throw away. I like fluffy towels and grew up with line dried ones and will never go back. Turning off water heater in summer? What do you wash your dishes in? My well water is 42 degrees, I'm not showering in that, as I don't want to die of hypothermia!😱 Being frugal means deciding how each one of us chooses where to spend our money.😊

Avoid car payments, buy a used quality car that gets good mileage and low on insurance. Keep looking for ways to money on anything. Wish we could find a way to get a good deal on live sports, because spectrum is slowly increasing. This time $20.
I have heard turf lawns have their own problems. I hate the idea of paving the world in plastic. Hanging laundry is common here.

I buy my make up at the Dollar Store, cheaper than Drug Store, I have Roku but I only watch whats free, I cut my grocery bill by cutting out lots of meat I never go to the movies. Our entertainment is church socials r taking an afternoon drive. Only eat out at lunch time because u can get lunch specials, a lot of time hubby and I share a lunch special for instant Bar be cue restaurants. They have like the 2 meat deal so he gets the meat he wants and I get mine and we half the Texas toast and vegs. Just a few of the things we have done to save. Love to watch U and your Dad
I will start squishing the tp! I did find my brother a good birthday gift at a thrift store! I usually buy thrifted furniture I did just buy a headboard that was way on clearance and cheaper than some of the thrifted options. We use generic products, I buy ELF makeup because it's probably the most affordable makeup at the grocery store, it's very good quality and it's not tested on animals! And we use grocery store bags for trash bags.

I'll bring my own candy to a movie (buy at CVS or a local deli) so I don't pay at the theater but I would never steal the popcorn! I tend to buy a kid size as it's way smaller and cheaper. I sometimes expect a "but you don't have a kid with you" comment from the staff but hasn't happened.

I still don't understand how you would spend more using a credit card vs debit if you're immediate tracking every purchase in your budget. Psychology that feels exactly the same to me.
I use a credit card to my advantage.. but it’s the user… I totally feel connected to the purchase because I have to pay the bill “IN FuLL” come payment day… so I track every dollar and collect my rewards… upwards to 600-700$ yearly
Yup. If you have a budget and stick to it, you shouldn’t worry about overspending or feeling like you’re spending “someone else’s money”. You can get more cash back through rewards than all other tips on this list combined, you just have to be responsible. As Dave himself would say “be intentional” instead of intense once you are debt free. These tips are intense, by definition. The obsession with avoiding credit cards is bizarre to me.
I have always rounded off my bills so it creates a small balance in checking.....
I save single dollars. Just pop them in a zippered case in the budget drawer and it adds up and it goes into savings.
Grocery shop with CASH. Cash that is budgeted for groceries. Forces me to stay on that list which is the menu for the week. Never grocery shop without a list.
Finally, raise your 401k contribution every year. My goal when I can is 15% but for now leading up to that point, I raise the contribution 1 percentage. It's making a difference!
Rachel Cruz is 1000% correct on giving! I just game money to a family member in Nigeria. I felt the joy and peace in my heart after I gave. I actually spend less on myself when I give. It’s the BEST thing you can do with money period!

Yes that comment didn't sound too cool. We've never owned a dryer & line dry our clothes. When it rains I put them on hangers using the shower rod or an old broomstick I hung over the doorway. I don't care if it looks weird, it works for me. 😊
GOD provides sun,right. A clothes dryer is the MOST inefficient houaehold appliance, google it.
I love cash back rewards. Here in real life, I've expenses like cell phone, utilities, etc. Put'em on credit card and build cash back rewards. Be sure to pay off the balance in full.
Every paycheck I pay off tbe card entirely.
You can flip the breaker to the water heater off if you know which one it is--I do that in the fall since I skip showers in the cooler months. Why shower every day if you don't get all sweaty? Makes no cents (ha ha).
I don't think the small fridge thing is a good idea. They aren't very efficient and they come with a tiny fridge, so it makes buying in bulk or meal prep very difficult.
Totally agree. I have a small fridge as default, and I am so sad nothing fits in that freezer. I am only talking about a week of foods.

I completely canceled Spectrum and use unlimited Data on my phone. All entertainment is provided by my huge DVD/VHS/CD/VINYL/VIDEO GAME collection. All acquired from garage sales. I buy in bulk and sell off the ones I don't want and I make money.

I already have no cable I’ve shopped for insurances and internet and our cell phones plans.
I pay for gas and car insurance, house insurance by card points get used on groceries. There are responsible credit card users. Vehicle insurance internet bills are the same every month doesn't mean you spend more with a free card that is paid off, often I would pay the years vehicle insurance cheaper if you pay by the year then pay the credit card the next day. And then by paying the card off immediately you get points faster.
Most of these weren’t weird
My family used to stay at my house for their vacation to save money, now I say NO so I can save money! No more free loaders!
Whats wrong with having family over so they can save money? Just have them contribute to groceries. A free loader is a stranger.
For those who haven't thought of it already, fasting will save you money. I'm talking 72-96 hours at a time without food. You may have to start small, like 16-20 hours at first if you're new, but making a grocery supply last at least a few weeks with prolonged fasting once a week saves a fair bit on its own. I've seen some benefit from it, health benefits from fasting is near endless as well.
The popcorn thing is called theft
It requires skills but if you can do your own car maintenance, or know enough about cars to know a fair price for a worthwhile job, and do your own computer maintenance/building or part selection, you can definitely save money. If you can get a new engine for an old car, and affordable panel beating, you can restore an old car to a high standard.
Sorry--but your mom was stealing. And if she really was trying to be that frugal, she should have skipped the movie theater! When I was growing up, we got to rent a VCR and a movie a few times a year, and it was a BIG deal! At 17 years old, my husband invited me on a date to the movie theater--first time!

Agreed, it was stealing, I hate this example that Rachel gives so proudly of her mom’s frugality. It was really her mom deceiving people. It didn’t rely on hard work or going without, which is what true frugality entails.

Unless stated otherwise, it is generally understood that the theater gives free refills during the time your movie runs. Once you leave the movie house, the free refill deal ends. So, if you reuse the bag at later movies outings, you've breached that implied agreement.
I will bet there is small print somewhere on the bag itself or on a sign saying this. Look for it.

Until stores stopped handing out plastic bags we used to reuse the grocery bag as our garbage bags. They got recycled and saved money.

I like the rewards points idea. I think what that person meant is ensure you earn enough rewards points on said card to pay it in full. So, the rewards pay the bill. But I agree that it's not something I'd put at the top of my list. I'm of the opinion that the popcorn trick is borderline theft. Perhaps pregaming before going to the movies is best. Eating something at home. Or even renting the movie. I personally don't eat out or go to the movies much. Mainly because I strength train and I've found I'm able to better control what goes into my body when I cook it. I'm a millennial. But my parents and Grandma (maternal) taught me (my brother and only sibling too) how to cook and clean. I don't order stuff like hello fresh. I buy the ingredients. And I clean my apartment myself. Some areas admittedly still need to be cleaned. but It also helps that I live in a studio apartment. I also do my laundry once weekly. Well ... I try to. My current work clothes are all machine washable. With the exception of my coats, gloves, belts, and shoes. And if they need repairing (i.e. button or mending) ... I let my Momma do that. My sewing skills are garbage. I know how to. I just don't have the muscle memory. I'm Andrew. I try to do what I can to save money. Especially since I live in Reston, Virginia. I even clip coupons. Something I remember my parents and Grandma doing. I have a budget on a google doc. Your app is too difficult for me to use. I also write my grocery list more or less according to how the store is laid out. If that makes sense.

All my furniture i fro thrift stores, save a pile of money and support a good cause like the salvation army. I bought a desk for $50.00 I'm sure would have been $300.00 - $400.00 new there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, not even badly worn. Save your plastic bags as long as they are clean, like bread bags, produce bags. Reuse them as sandwich bags, or to store left overs. Saves buying purpose made storage bags which are really kind of expensive given what they are.
We hang dry nearly all our clothing, but not linens. Can't stand scratchy towels!
Because we live on a small island without shopping available, it costs more to go to the mainland to shop than to order online. So yes, we use ONE credit card, and pay it off every month.
No car payments.... can't remember last time we had one.... maybe in 1986, the only time we bought a new vehicle and it was the worst car we ever had.
We rarely eat out, and our meals are a lot more healthy than when we lived on the mainland and ate out several times a week.
We give- we support Samaritan's Purse and Operation Christmas Child. We don't take luxury vacations, don't buy new vehicles and are frugal in most purchases. We find a lot more joy in sharing than bragging about cruises and condos.
Charity thrift stores are great. Get a pamphlet on the organization to put with gift.

There is nothing wrong with credit cards. I buy everything with mine and pay it off several times a month. I have gotten a ton of free clothes with the rewards I earn.

After readin paper hed wrap paper round broom handle n secure with metal coat hanger that gave him 52 free fire logs a year hed burn them n his wood burner then hed remove ashes n compost. When coathanger got brittle hed throw it in with scrap metal to sell at junk yard. Oh i forgot he got Sunday paper by subscription so big discount no waste
To finish, yes, reusing a bag to get free popcorn is dishonest. You have to think morally and not just financially.
Don’t garbage bags go out with the garbage? How can you reuse them?
Well, we live rurally and don't have trash pickup. So we have to take our garbage to the dump. My husband dumps the bag and takes it home again so it is possible for us.

If you have dry trash, you can dump it into another trash can assuming neither one is full and there is room to combine
Things I do to inspire and make a woman's day. When I meet them, I say how great their outfit looks on them. Often they come back with how old it is. I say good for us. Save money and look great.

2) When I am about to pay, I take one last look at my cart to see if there’s anything I don’t need at that time and I put at least one item back. This rule applies to all shopping and saves me a lot of money.
3) I’m not eating out.
4) I haven’t bought any new clothes in 8 months.
