It's interesting, how zombies have no headcrabs on their heads. It's either an unfonished model, or a new part to the HL's lore. Maybe Combine used a diffrent biological weapon on Ravenholm, than headcrabs?

This deserves to be finished and made into a free standalone dlc, The whole nailgun nails conducting electricity and father gregori returning make this worth finishing. The puzzle mechanics just feel like something valve would do I have no other way to describe it. It’s worth being finished.

So this is where the SUSTENANCE! Brain Damaged Vortiguant cooking idea came from, also the connecting electricity puzzle from this alpha reminds me a lot of the hacking minigame on Half Life Alyx AND you could even connect the weird milking of headcrabs to the milking of Antlions in Alyx!
You can actually see a headcrab being cooked by a vortigaunt at black mesa east in half life 2, during the elevator ride.
If you guys don't know, this was cancelled because valve themselves cancelled it! The company developing it, Arkane Studios were really interested in the project, and loved working on the game. They were really sad to hear about it being cancelled. They decline to say what the "Ultimate ending" was going to be...oh yea..and father grigori dies since he gets mutated after injecting too much headcrab blood into his neck (shown at the beginning of the video with the headcrab machine) he tries to hide it with a hoodie and keeps it a secret but ends up getting mutated. So if this is canon..then that means father grigori died.
EDIT: forgot to mention the reason why he injects the blood into his neck is because he believes it makes him immune to headcrabs (it says it in the video but I'm adding this just in case someone missed it)
Hopefully the part about him dying won't be canon in a future HL game...
Of all these amazing additions Arcane tried to do, I cannot help but notice they made A DIFFERENT STANDING UP ANIMATION THAN THE ONE FROM PORTAL THAT'S BEEN USED BY EVERY FREAKING SOURCE MODDER FOR 15 YEARS
This feels like a mix between Left for Dead and Half life.

I'm honestly glad this isn't a thing, it makes no sense that zombies can exist without the headcrab on them. The headcrab doesn't infect you, it controls you.

Man, if only Arkane could release this early alpha build for free on the internet, i bet a lot of HL fans would proudly finish the game, the potential and immersive combat this had, was incredible, not to mention it featured the return of long fan favorite forgotten by Valve Adrian Shepard, i know they were unsatisfied by the episodic format at this point and probably had there own zombie franchise at this point(L4D), but Valve could just ask Arkane to make this a spin off to at least show that they were still working with the Half Life Franchise instead of just saying that had nothing to say about the IP and letting the HL3 meme exist for so long and making the fans await 13 years for a new HL game which only those who have VR can enjoy, and don't you think a thematic Ravenholm map would be awesome for L4D? I only see wasted potentials here.
I gotta say, I'm liking the pitched-down HL2 music. Ravenholm Reprise, Requiem for Ravenholm, Particle Ghost, Triage at Dawn, Apprehension and Evasion, all the good stuff.

I'm glad the soul of this cut project was reworked into future titles.
The electric puzzle I feel definitely inspired the Wire puzzles in Half Life Alyx, and not to mention this was made BEFORE Left 4 Dead 2, so they probably took the concept from this game and remade it into the best Zombie Shooter.
Down to the 'Jockey' monkey Zombies, the Spitters, and the Melee on all your guns.
Let's be honest, we're all desperate for new installments but this would've been far too alien- no pun intended- for the Half Life series.
It was better to make it its own game series rather than being tacked on to another.
Oh yeah, also to add they did add Headcrabless Zombies too in HL:A via those Mutant headcrabs who enter the body instead.
Yet another example of old concepts coming back in newer projects.
With HL:A's ending,I think HL3 will be the final game in the franchise,with the Gman obviously being the final boss

I'm confused. Why are there headcrabs but no headcrab zombies. Did they make up a new plague or something for this or were they planning on retconning the headcrabs to just infecting people?
Father Gregori was making serums to make him immune to the headcrabs venom and poison and those zombies are randos he tested on and they became zombies without the headcrabs.
I thought he was wearing the infinity gauntlet
I don't care if the graphics are this outdated, I'd gladly play this as long as we can see the story continue to unfold

Im a Little Late but ep3 was never in development. Concept art was made and sometime a developer made some enemies for ep3 but it was never in full dev like hl2

Gordon’s HEV hands along with the Zombies and Grigori’s voice lines were just placeholders. Adrian’s arms weren’t fully implemented yet as this game was only at the mid point of the development before cancellation.

To clarify this is Half Life ravenholm. A cancelled project being made by Arkane the makers of dishonored. But yes it was meant to be episode 4 as 3 was in the works by valve at the time. But when the episode 3 project got frozen so did this project.

As valve were working on episode 3 to drop before this game. Although this game had more development time. When valves episode 3 project froze so did this.

This is really cool. It's very refreshing to see Half-Life 2 content that actually introduces some completely new and interesting gameplay mechanics, unlike most mods that are mostly just the same.
This isn't a mod. This is an official spin-off from Arkane Studios that got cancelled around a decade ago. The footage is from the documentary in the description of this video where a guy got to record the old gameplay. Unfortunately, it's never gonna be available.
