I doubt someone with such happiness like Chris Evans would ever let a youtube video make him feel depressed. He’d shrug this video off and maybe even giggle at it. Wouldn’t doubt it if someone told me he sent this to RDJ to make RDJ feel better about himself.
Saying Evans is looking for "approval" from Downey when he answer the host's question is really an overstatement. Evans is probably looking for support from Downey as he is an introvert type of person. My guess is that Evans and Downey probably has very decent relationship and that's why Evans trust him.
andyusfca I'm pretty sure I've heard that Chris suffers from some sort of anxiety (it makes him seem drunk in other interviews) and Robert has been doing this since his twenties, acting since 5, so that's about 30 years of experience, everybody else in the room is playing catch up.
Well first off, everything in this video should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, most of these things are not consciously done, but are just subconscious responses. Evans isn't looking at Downey on a fully conscious level --- he's doing it because, subconsciously, he knows Downey is a very strong conversationalist Therefore he subconsciously feels inclined to look toward Downey because he knows he's a inherently a big part of the interview conversation. I don't think Evans looking for 'approval' on a literal sense. He's more looking to Downey to see what he has to say --- and he knows Downey will always have something to say. Additionally; most of the time you just subconsciously look to your partner to include them in the conversation. Evans is not a self-centered person, so he isn't interesting in stealing the show or directing all the attention towards himself, while RDJ is a natural show-stealer. So it becomes a "balanced" dynamic, in that no one's fighting each other for attention.
Downie's charisma comes from his compassion to his friends.Being a good person makes you charismatic not a literal breakdown of what you have inside you already.
The power is his humor. When you are known as the "funny guy" in the group people always give you the spotlight. I'm naturally very witty and whenever I'm around friends or co-workers I'm expected to entertain them. But behind closed doors I'm kind of dark & complex. I would expect Downy is the same.
Actually, you become more charismatic when you stop caring what other people think. It sounds counterintuitive, but it's true. Be your true authentic self. Be true to yourself and your emotions. If you don't find someone's joke funny, don't laugh, just don't be rude. In this instance, if you laugh half heartedly, people will see through it. They will know you didn't find the joke funny and still laughed, because you're insecure and worried about what other people would've though had you not laughed. Being authentic is attractive, not to mention sexy.
Too high energy. It's almost as if he popped too much adderall or snorted too many lines of cocaine. Chris acts too insecure. None of these are great examples of charisma.
The word ppl need to remember with charisma is CHARM. And charm, quite simply, is the ability to make others feel good. The first thing that you notice Downey does when he walks onto the set is he locks eyes with the audience and smiles. A genuine smile is the simplest compliment you can give someone. And his sitting posture implies that he is giving both Chris Evans and Jimmy Kimmel has full attention EVEN THOUGH he is seated at the furthest chair --- giving the impression that he is both GENEROUS and FRIENDLY (as his entire body is turned to face both Evans and Kimmel).
My dude.... 90% of what you're talking about comes from physical POSITION. Chris Evans simply has enough manners to not be a dick (by not turning his back to Downey).

In about 20 seconds Jr took control of the below mentioned moments with body language, posture and timing. I did this analysis for me mostly but though I'd share my observations. I love how these mechanics work. I don't blame Evans for being shy and can fully relate. From entrance to couch we already have 9 situations that Downey Jr. made better use of: 0:38 Evans body tilted back, standing on right leg, sideways. He looks unsure if he wants to enter the room. Jr. is slanted forward, his look is fixed on the audience, mentally he entered the room already. 0:39 Evans looks for help, checks what D. jr does. Jr. does not look back but is fully focused on the audience 0:40 D. Jr is the first to greet the audience. The gesture is fully committed. Evans does a shy "half greeting " his hand stays at the lower chest level. 0:41 Evans is quick to shake hands with Kimmel, finally a way to give the host his attention. During handshake he is bend over, unstable stance on front foot, a shy posture. 0:42 Downey takes his time, puts some swagger in his steps, grabs Kimmels hand, steps in straight up and takes control of the handshake. Jimmy upper Body is bend forward at 0:43 accepting Downey as alpha male 0:46 D. Jr wants to spend more time with the audience and gestures Evans to proceed to the couch who is happy to oblige. 0:47 Evans looks towards the couch, Jr. sends kisses to the audience. 0:49 Evans proceeds to sit down, Jr. open arms gesture is an invitation to the audience to return admiration 0:54 Evans falls into the couch like a wet sack, finally he can relax. His hands slap onto his legs, a gesture that assures him, he is now sitting, he has arrived in his save space. Downey keeps his body tension and slowly sits down with an upright body posture. He does not sink into the couch and keeps his energy high. 0:56 a shy half nod to the audience by a Evans and another fully realised wave to the audience by Jr. Interview starts, all eyes on RDJ...

I think Robert Downey Jr. is a very charismatic man, but I think completely stealing a conversation is rude and wouldn't do it on principle. Especially not to a close friend of mine. I think being okay with sharing a conversation is very charismatic as well. :)
Your analysation skills are close to being non existant. You're completely misreading Chris Evans' interactions with RDJ and praising RDJ in a simply wrong way. Take the "dress code" joke for an example. Chris Evans makes the initial joke to break the ice, this is a show of HIS charisma, RDJ simply follows up on the joke by making a funny remark. Why is he looking at RDJ when he makes the joke? Because he was talking about calling HIM, so it makes sense for him to look at the person he's talking about. Heck, where do you even get the idea that he's asking for his approval? The beaty in RDJ's character lies in that he knows how to make everyone feel at ease by making silly remarks, not by emitting a charismatic aura like you're apperantly thinking. But then again, these things are mostly scripted anyways, so chances are that he simply looked at RDJ because he knew that he was gonna follow up. You just need to realise that Chris Evans is just more of a straight-forward guy, while RDJ is more of an entertainer. By the way, another thing you missed, intentionally to bring more praise to RDJ or unintentionally by mistake, Chris Evans often answers the question before RDJ does, this doesn't match up with your idea of him recognising RDJ as "the star" because then he'd just shut up and fill in the holes that RDJ left in his answer. Again, this is a sign that this is probably scripted, as Chris Evans won't make many funny remarks, so he'll give a straight answer first, while RDJ can play on his answer while joking first. Has nothing to do with charisma, just who the better entertainer is. Subjective youtube video's are fine, but it'd be appreciated if you'd drop the scientific mask and just say it's your opinion.
Here's the thing Glenn. Though your observation is keen, it's lacking one thing - this video is SUPPOSE to be about RDJ's charisma w/women, NOT Chris Evans. So, please, drop the analytical analysis mask and just say you're focused on the interaction between RDJ and Chris Evans and not how to be charismatic with women. At least, that's my opinion.
Really great analysis and I agree with alot of what you had to say. I think Chris Evans was 1. just being respectful to RDJ by always acknowledging his presence, 2. RDJ is older than him, there is another form of respect 3. RDJ is by far more well-known and accomplished in their field again, respect. 4. I do agree, he may have been short of something clever to say and he knows RDJ can always pick up the ball. 5. There was probably some personal admiration as well.
Charisma on Demand is a dope channel about this kind of stuff, more and better analysis...he talks about the different charisma strategies, and Chris Evans is VERY charismatic, but he does it in a different way. RDJ has “im better than you all” rockstar charisma that makes others insecure but Chris Evans’ nice guy charisma makes everyone feel good but he gets interrupted a lot...downside to both...that channel does a good job
All look down to Robert Downey because he has established his charisma, he's just maintaining it now. Real question is how do I really establish my charisma ?
that's exactly the point! Downey enjoys himself. He is confident and narcissistic in a funny way. He knows that he's a great actor. He doesnt understate his skills as an actor. Other actors do that, but rdj doesn't. Thats why i love him, he knows that he's great and skilled and he enjoys his fame. If you are a bad actor that's a negative attitude but when you're good like downey you can do that. Other Actors arent that "brave" to say: yeah, im really good in this!
I don't think Evans is insecure at all. He just has a different temperament. Namely, he is happiest when he is complimenting and uplifting others, and not worrying so much about himself. On the other hand, Downey enjoys having the spotlight on him, but isn't arrogant to the point where it's annoying. Neither is better than the other in their social temperament. Just different.
Robert DJ went through substance abuse and overcame it like a beast. He gained his willpower and confidence and came back to hollywood to play big roles. His charisma is very real, he didnt learn it off a youtube video, thats what he realised through his EXPERIENCE of life. I suggest everyone find theiur natural charisma and confidence through experience instead of trying to mimic someone elses.
There is no true you. Personality is a construct that we have, not something that we are. It's like wearing clothes, you are not the clothes itself. This video is good to help those that want to better at communicating, understanding, and socializing people to know them better. The key thing is that we become interesting to others when we become interested on people and genuinely wanting to know, hear, and listen to them. Self-confidence is the primary of key to give that drive.
7Nexus21, What people in such videos forget to say is it all has to do with a public face. Yes, the public face, or YOU that interacts with people. To become better socially, you just have to get THE BASICS like smiling, eye contact, gestures, walk, hand shake. You talk about charisma dude. But the way u narrate is just so dull. I mean cmon, ur just ironic in the "how to be charismatic". Plus the way compare chris and robert is just bias. Admit it dude, u like rdj.
The way he cracks a good joke is by having a keen awareness of himself. First off though, when he walks out with Chris Evans he knows he is shorter than him --- but he stands straight up with his shoulders back. By doing so, he commands instant attention. Back to the jokes now, he knows that he doesn't match the physicality of the much younger Chris Evans so he makes a play on how pampered he is (and needs to be -- beyond just what his movie role necessitates). For Downey, this took almost a lifetime of experience to learn about himself and how best to be self-effacing and still come off as being confident and alpha. But for the rest of us, it doesn't necessarily need to take a lifetime.
Downey can do this and it's all good. If anyone else tries this stuff they come off looking like a jerk. Downey is a master of push pull and domination without coming off as a manipulator or a jerk. Women find this irresistible. Don't try this at home folks, you'll piss your friends off. Either be the Downey or go home.
Everyone has a unique personality and we all have natural skills. If we learn a new technique to be "charasmatic," or social and confident, that will require mind training and a way getting out of a comfortable element of who we are. Charasmatic people are naturally instilled with it. A natural personality.
I would've said at the end Evans made that grin in anticipation that RDJ was going to say something funny. Like he was fully confident that he was gunna laugh at his opening remark.
The biggest introvert in big hollywood, johnny depp, is also one of the most loved. Acting like you just popped adderall (RDJ) will not get you girls or fame. It's called being yourself, and RDJ does that perfectly, but it's not because of his high strung, wired personality.
What a load of pseudo scientific bullshit. Chris Evans looks at Robert when he speaks but he also looks at Jimmy because that's what you do when you are in the middle of a conversation with two other people. You may not know this since it sounds like you aren't interesting enough to have a conversation with people.
What people in such videos forget to say is it all has to do with a public face. Yes, the public face, or YOU that interacts with people. To become better socially, you just have to get THE BASICS like smiling, eye contact, gestures, walk, hand shake. I agree Robert has a more funnier approach on things; that's what makes him so nice to be around. But I think you might've went about Chris's actions the wrong way. They are both really nice men who know how to keep a crowd entertained, but that doesn't mean Robert is better than Chris is any way. Not being rude, just saying my opinion.
I think you were pretty spot-on about everything except for the end when you commented that Evans looks at Robert like "what do you have now mr. Popular?". The look Evans gave him was a " did you really have your furniture shipped to Atlanta" look. I doubt Evans would have any kind of enmity or spitefulness like that no matter how tiny it is toward Robert Downey jr. Because of the amount of charisma RDJ has, those kind of emotions would not resonate in Chris's mind. In addition to that, I feel that you are probably projecting your own feelings on to him, honestly.
Perspective is everything here. My perspective is that Chris Evans is more down to earth, kind, and approachable. RDJ just insulted Atlanta, and watch how Chris Evans tried to salvage that, so... there is that. There are always more than one way of looking at situations and not everyone will agree on the perspective, so just be you and your vibe will attract your tribe.
I need to start paying attention how people look at me. I always feel like all eyes are on me. It's not an ego thing and I feel uncomfortable lol maybe I should embrace it
i like this video, but honestly, the fact that i am watching to learn how to be charismatic only makes me realize how uncharismatic i am. i mean, i could mimic RDJ's behavioral patterns and body language all I want, but if i want to be really charismatic, i just gotta be comfortable in my own skin. people will pick up on that and if they don't, well, it's alright.
Don't forget that it might also be an age and respect thing. Evans is from 1981 and Downey is from 1965. don't underestimate men's respect for other men that are older. This is not purely based on character type. Maybe it is different today with the newer generation but being almost of the same generation as evans I can tell you that we are still respecting our elders... :D I bet Evans probably wants to be this cool when he is over 50. Downey could technically be his Dad. That is what people tend to forget when looking at their behaviour.
No, that is why social hierarchy 'alpha male dominance' shit is utter bullshit. We don't operate that way anymore. Personality overrides it. Besides, the halo effect (a term in psychology) means that everyone will automatically assume RDJ is joking and fun because that is what everyones impression of him is.
The way downey sits here is to make himself look taller. He's a very short guy who wear shoe lifts to appear taller. However, on a sofa his shoes have little impact, as they merely heighten his legs , while his is body still short. He's about as tall as Tom Cruise. That's why he sits straight up like that, leaning his arm on the sofa back, where he stretches his upperbody to the max, while chris evans sits down in a laid back fashion, which makes Chris'upperbody shorter than it would be than if he would sit up straight. I agree that Robert sure knows how to present himself to come across as the charismatic guy, but i do think it's pretty much all an act. Nothing wrong with that of course!
Man, if Chris Evans ever watched this video he would feel so depressed! All for just being his happy, easy-going self.

Glenn I totally agree! I hate how much shit he threw on Chris
Looks like chris was looking for validation from downy
Glenn well said
Here's the thing Glenn.
In the video: “See that? Chris blinked. He’s under the influence of RDJ’s charisma, and obviously wants to suck him.”
Imagine Chris Evans watching this video and taking cues from it
Feeling sorry for this wonderful actor .
Not really, just kiddng
You my friend, earned a sub for the simple reason of using a practical example to educate us...
It's the humor guys !! Period.
Both of them were charismatic though, only that one was playing dominant and one more friendly, taking the others in. No problem with that. :)
Chris was like a sweet soft shy guy😆 and Robert was like yo man here i come😎... everyone has different type of attitudes 😃
Yeah they are both charismatic
Really great analysis and I agree with alot of what you had to say. I think Chris Evans was 1. just being respectful to RDJ by always acknowledging his presence, 2. RDJ is older than him, there is another form of respect 3. RDJ is by far more well-known and accomplished in their field again, respect. 4. I do agree, he may have been short of something clever to say and he knows RDJ can always pick up the ball. 5. There was probably some personal admiration as well.
Incredible. Robert Downey Jr, such an attractive and charismatic man.
That's why I love you 3000 RDJ / Tony Stark / Iron Man ❤️💪😎
Robert DJ went through substance abuse and overcame it like a beast.
Just be yourself, you whether you emo like, charismatic, intellectual and quiet... just be you, why change to please someone else.
PMDownUp "be yourself" is the worst and best advice you can give to someone
Everything else just come out of you REAL, your social YOU comes out of your REAL YOU. It might not be perfect but it's you! And people would better see REALYOU than some parody bullshit. Now, here's really interesting stuff. How to keep improving real you, which is inside. That's, my friend, what you do the entire lifetime and it's fun!) people call it The Journey for a reason...
Lol
PMDownUp To get what you want
I have seen this interview thousand times but never had I seen it the way you showed me...... Now I can never unsee Cap's defeat.
dont stop makin we love watchin your vids
You talk about charisma dude. But the way u narrate is just so dull. I mean cmon, ur just ironic in the "how to be charismatic". Plus the way compare chris and robert is just bias. Admit it dude, u like rdj.
Love your videos!!
But for the rest of us, it doesn't necessarily need to take a lifetime.
your analysis is biased
Numair Abbas nope, its based on what every1 can see
and only those who are biased can understand.
Yes, i seen Chris Was also a gentle.. Good looking... so he is also attracted in same ratio
This is low-key great advice despite him roasting Evan
You have a gift of reading people..others can't understand
Downey can do this and it's all good. If anyone else tries this stuff they come off looking like a jerk. Downey is a master of push pull and domination without coming off as a manipulator or a jerk. Women find this irresistible. Don't try this at home folks, you'll piss your friends off. Either be the Downey or go home.
meh, he's just living his tony stark character.
I do everything what downey do but until now was absolutely unaware of it. I am a natural wow.
You make great points. A lot of people here are missing your points and taking what you say about Chris too personal.
The biggest introvert in big hollywood, johnny depp, is also one of the most loved. Acting like you just popped adderall (RDJ) will not get you girls or fame. It's called being yourself, and RDJ does that perfectly, but it's not because of his high strung, wired personality.
Chis Evans, in my opinion, is a sort of a silent person kind of guy. That decency in silence only a few understand. And BTW Chris is charismatic.
Very good video, i definitely learned something here! Thank you!
Nice video my dude. The little people want to turn this into gossip, but I appreciate the ideas about charisma you're puttung out there.
About Charisma, You should see Leonardi DiCaprio play Frank Jr in 'Catch me if you can (2002)'
What a load of pseudo scientific bullshit.
Oh Robert... Robert... Robert! Take me!
I agree Robert has a more funnier approach on things; that's what makes him so nice to be around. But I think you might've went about Chris's actions the wrong way. They are both really nice men who know how to keep a crowd entertained, but that doesn't mean Robert is better than Chris is any way.
Not being rude, just saying my opinion.
i love this video. i don’t know what you guys are talking about. this is fax’s
Just read your Tony Stark ebook. It's worth so much more than $5. Keep making these.
Love the vid!
I really like your voice, your recording skills are great!
I love u robert downey jr
This vid showed me WHAT charisma looked like, but now HOW to be charismatic.
I love Robert Downey Jr in the movie Air America especially when he's flying the News chopper listening to the song pushing too hard...great scene
Dude took civil war seriously
Spot on. He's timing is impeccable!
Perspective is everything here. My perspective is that Chris Evans is more down to earth, kind, and approachable. RDJ just insulted Atlanta, and watch how Chris Evans tried to salvage that, so... there is that. There are always more than one way of looking at situations and not everyone will agree on the perspective, so just be you and your vibe will attract your tribe.
hey, I always DON'T LAUGH at my own jokes when the others are laughing... :D it's something I've been doing my entire life, and I love it! :D
He is a miracle.. I wish i was his son or half charismatic as him
I disagree with your POV.
Robert Downey Jr is charismatic is a badass manner;
Chris Evans is a charismatic is a adorable manner;
I know right
I need to start paying attention how people look at me. I always feel like all eyes are on me. It's not an ego thing and I feel uncomfortable lol maybe I should embrace it
Downey Jr, he's just basically a well brought up gentleman.
Y’all hear that cough at 6:38 😭🤣🤣🤣 I don’t why that’s funny but it is lmaooo
be your best version of your self
There is more than one kind of charisma. This is the "cool guy" charisma.
Good breakdown. Ignore the haters posting their drivel about this video.
i like this video, but honestly, the fact that i am watching to learn how to be charismatic only makes me realize how uncharismatic i am. i mean, i could mimic RDJ's behavioral patterns and body language all I want, but if i want to be really charismatic, i just gotta be comfortable in my own skin. people will pick up on that and if they don't, well, it's alright.
If you want to be charismatic, be honest that's all.
Dezider Žiga I tried it but people call me a dick
***** than you weren't honest, believe me it's harder than it seems.
Dezider Žiga i was honest. my honesty is not nice
***** that's not honesty but arrogance.
Dezider Žiga are you joking? honesty if what you truly feel. arrogance is stubbornness and narrow-minded
I bet Evans probably wants to be this cool when he is over 50. Downey could technically be his Dad. That is what people tend to forget when looking at their behaviour.
but isn't robert sitting in a defensive legs-crossed posture? Won't it make the atmosphere a bit tense??
No, that is why social hierarchy 'alpha male dominance' shit is utter bullshit. We don't operate that way anymore. Personality overrides it. Besides, the halo effect (a term in psychology) means that everyone will automatically assume RDJ is joking and fun because that is what everyones impression of him is.
tim cook he is actually leaning into the group and that makes people feel he is safe to talk to
It doesn't hurt that Downey is gorgeous, and he knows it! Even though he's way older than Chris, he's also way more attractive.
This is way over-analyzed.
Yup...it is
o.f b which is good
Sooo , I banged a girl I asked out at goodwill
Charisma is an inborn talent. It can only be learned with limitations. That's why R D J is the best
Robert is alpha as fuck!!!
Poor Chris Evans. Dude's just trying to enjoy life.
Facts
There is only one problem.. the people doesn't applause me when I enter the stage
Great video
This chriss evans disd track is fire
Hahaha I don't think you talk about charisma, but about hypnosis.
Ever heard of friendship
these secrets are very helpful! Thank you!
This guy
Robert: an angel, a beautiful great man, just the perfect being
Chris: ugly, stupid, literally Hitler
Lol
Wow... RDJ is really awesome. I mean he literally saved the whole video.
Good video ! I hope the narrator learned something! He is waterboarding people !!!
Chris is a wonder..no doubt about that. Chris looks more awesome but Downey is more charismatic!
I usually am the most charismatic person in the room, even though im hanging out alone at home so much!
