NARROWBOAT Living - We never expected this! It’s all in the TIMING! Ep92

- Опубликовано: 1 май 2024
- In this week’s video, TIMING is EVERYTHING! We say goodbye to our friends Pat & Eileen @ournarrowboatquest4894 , then leave the mooring at Flecknoe, bridge 102, and cruise our NARROWBOAT floating home towards Napton. We stop at Wigrams Marina for a pump-out and diesel, before moving on to Napton looking for a mooring. We chat at the back of the boat and banter anbout our upcoming anniversary …How long?! 🤣 The banter continues on our journey back to the same mooring, but … TIMING is EVERYTHING as you’ll see once we’ve moored up! 🫣
The sun came out on our Anniversary and I got our drone up for some wonderful aerial views (DJI Mini 2), before celebrating with friends Wayne & Amanda @nbspudley at The Folly Pub at Napton. Our next cruise to Braunston services is beautiful, with lovely views, but at the waterpoint things get a bit TIGHT! We leave the service point intending to head towards Hillmorton … but again … TIMING is EVERYTHING and we have a chance meet up with friends …… but then what happens next, no-one was expecting! 😳 @onedaymoreaboard

If you’re new to our channel, just a little introduction. We are Julie and Martin and in 2021 we sold our house and gave up our jobs, to live full time on a narrowboat. We bought our 2004 narrowboat Rhapsody in Blue in the September and have been living full time onboard ever since. We hadn’t intended on vlogging, but recorded videos for ourselves and family and it has escalated into the weekly vlogs you see today, so lovely to have you all onboard! ❤️
Please join us as we continuously cruise the inland waterways of the UK, sharing our cruises and adventures with you all, thank you! ❤️
We’ve made a couple of playlists for you too, one with all our favourite cruises and the other is all of our vlogs from the beginning, so you can binge watch to see where we’ve been so far! There’s also a walk through of our narrowboat home too, come inside and see how we live. ❤️

I think you mean the drone footage, it does look stunning from above doesn’t it, thanks Derek! xx
WELL DONE BOTH A LOT OF YEARS
Aww thank you! xx
Nice drone footage showing the splendid tapestry of our countryside and a great sunset too
Hi Jackie, it was so nice to be able to put the drone up, it’s been so wet and windy of late. Thank you for your kind words Jackie! xx
Another great time with Julie & Martin. Thanks for the ride.
Aww thank you so much! xx
I must say ,that I truly enjoy your videos. I look forward to each one , they bring me such joy and peace after the stress of everyday life . Thankyou
Aww thank you, such a lovely thing to say. So lovely to have you along with us, thank you! xx
Looks like the weather is getting ready for the Bank Holiday this coming weekend! Stay safe, keep laughing and loving ❤ Congratulations on your wedding anniversary 💕
Hi Jill, lol yes, I think you’re right about the weather! Thank you so much! xx
Really lovely video. Great banter and wonderful reminiscing about when you met and how long you have been together. Happy, belated, Anniversary for 11th April. You are, obviously, not just husband and wife, you are true soul mates. I was 17 and Linda was 14 when we met on a blind date. We will have been married for 56 years this coming August 2024 and have know each other for 62 years, and like you we have always enjoyed doing things together. Make what you will of that Martin. 😜 😘 Thanks for another great video.
Barry xx
Hi Barry, oh wow, 56 years, congratulations! That’s lovely to hear!
Lol re Martin, it’s all banter 😂 Thank you so much Barry! xx
Another lovely vlog, thank you. Happy belated anniversary and many more to come! Have a wonderful week! Cheers Howard x
Hi Howard, thank you for a lovely comment, we really appreciate it! Thank you! xx
Thanks for another lovely video Julie & Martin. You guys always make me laugh and smile. Nice drone footage. You can see the shadows of the clouds racing across the countryside. And what beautiful countryside it is! And wide beams must have a difficult time on the canals. They must be quite limited in which canals they can travel on. And yes, 1983...that was the year Lynette and I met. It was a good year. And it's strange getting a buzz when you meet up with other narrowboaters that we subscribe to, like Caroline & Pete, and Amanda & Wayne. Thanks again!
Hi Neil, congratulations to you and Lynette too! Thank you for your lovely compliments, I’m still learning with the drone lol. Yes, wide beams can only go on certain canals, where we met that particular one, they were on their way to a marina a short way up, after that it’s single locks. It’s lovely when we come across friends on the canals, you never know who you’re going to see around the next corner. Thanks Neil! xx
Happy 37th Anniversary
Aww thank you so much! xx
Thanks for taking us with you as you cruise along. Belated happy anniversary.
Hi Ruth, lovely to hear from you! And thank you for your anniversary wishes! xx
Lovely vlog! All seasons in one day! Life on the cut keeps you close to nature. And as i was thinking it was the perfect weather for cake, look who turned up: Caroline and Pete! 🥮❤️☕️
Haha, if only she had been baking, sadly no banana loaf that day, neither of us knew we would be seeing each other, it was a lovely surprise! Thanks Eric! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIBHappy Anniversary btw, hoping Martin spoiled you there! 😜🥂
@@tteric67 aww thanks Eric! xx
Thank you for another great vlog.
Hi Scott, glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks Scott! xx
Yay, Hector the Mighty Hound! He almost woke up when he heard his name lol

@@JulieandMartinonRIB You're very welcome!
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. You two make me laugh and seem just like me and my husband. Happy anniversary to you both 🎉.
Me and my husband met in 1985, 39 years thus July.... I need a medal lol. Also wanted to say ty to you Julie for talking to my son Adam who is in the process of making RUclips videos. X
Hi Christine, congratulations to you too! I think we all need medals lol 😂
No probs re Adam, this RUclips lark isn’t as easy as people think, it does take a lot of time and effort and there’s always things to learn, so if I can help someone along the way, that’s great! Thanks Christine! xx
Hi both a very very happy anniversary to the marsh lovely couple how to serve to be together for 37 years congratulations love always Dave kiss kiss🎉
Aww thank you Dave, that’s lovely of you to say! Thank you! xx
You were so lucky with that weather! It looked as if was going to pour for the whole cruise, then you had sun, and hail when you were stopped! I’m glad you had a lovely anniversary and could celebrate with friends, and how amazing that Caroline and Pete happened to moor just where you had stopped. Definitely good timing. Lovely video as always - I hope you’re having a great day - happy weekend to you both xx 😊
Hi Mishka, hope you’re well. Yes, the weather lately has been crazy, but yes we were really lucky both times, the first when we moored up and it rained and rained, and then when we met Caroline & Pete. Had we not have seen them, we would have been cruising in that hail storm! Have a great weekend! Thanks Mishka! xx
The wild life and the beautiful colors of trees and the sun sets. Lively mooring and the views. 😊
Hi Margaret, this is a lovely stretch of canal, the views really are amazing! Thanks Margaret! xx
Happy birthday from Karen & Derek in Australia and 🎉 Happy 37th Anniversary 🥂🍾
Aww thank you Karen and Derek, so nice of you, thank you! xx
Absolutely lovely! I've about had it with rain here too. 14 inches since Sunday . Thank you both for showing us your adventures and I just love the English country side! Be Safe and enjoy yourselfs.
Hi Steve, hope you’re well, yes this weather lately has been crazy! Hopefully not long now and it will break! Thanks Steve! xx
Brilliant vlog guys and I love your drone footage Julie, it takes photography to another level. Anyway you two thanks again and I will see you on the next one 😂😂😂😂❤

Hi Nigel, thank you and yes, see you at Crock! xx
Just to say thank you Just heavily going along with you on your journeys I've been very poorly this past couple of weeks and watching you I can just relax and drift along perfect. Blessings always.

Hi Julie and Martin, yes 1983 was a great year as our lovely one and only daughter was born in the October, we’ve been married 52 years this year on Remembrance Day, just so Hubble doesn’t forget lol 😂 Love watching your videos every week, really look forward to seeing them and the beautiful countryside, shame about the weather at times. Take care both of you and see you on the next one 🥰
Hi Annette, congratulations to you too, 52 years, that’s lovely! Lol ‘remember’ 😂 Thank you for your lovely comments, thank you Annette! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB❤
Yay! Pete and Caroline but not so much the weather. Glad you were moored up to see them else you would have been traveling. 😊 That was big hail. Loved the aerials of the fields and the clouds. Everything was so wet though! ❤
Hi Dorothy, hope you’re well. It was lovely meeting up with Caroline & Pete, and yes, if we hadn’t, we would have been cruising in that hail! Thank you for your lovely comment! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB That could have been painful.
Xx
Thanks Edward, lovely that you’re still enjoying our vlogs, thank you! xx
Love your vlogs, happy anniversary and glad you caught up with Pete and Caroline just before that awful downpour. So looking forward to catching up ❤❤❤❤
Hi Jacqui, aww thank you! Yes it was such a surprise to see them, we had no idea they were even near! Looking forward to seeing you both at Crick! xx
ITS FREAT TO WATCH
Aww that’s good to know xx
Happy anniversary to you both.xx . I love your sense of humour Julie keep it up. Excellent timing getting moored before the rain came. Keep safe xx
Hi Joan, hope you’re well, lol my brain works in a weird way sometimes 😂 We were lucky with the weather weren’t we, and especially with those hailstones! Thank you so much! xx
Another lovely and eventful video Julie. Such a shame about the weather but I think the whole of the UK was having wet and windy weather at that time.
Loved the drone footage and the beautiful sunset at the end. Happy sailing! 😃💞
Aww thank you Phyllis, the weather has been awful hasn’t it, hopefully it is at last breaking and we’ll have some nice warm settled weather now! 🤞 Hope you’re both well and thank you for the lovely compliments 😃 xx
Congrats on the anniversary! May you have thirty-seven more! 😍
Aww thank you so much Trudi! xx
Hi Guys what a variant of weather. Great vlog funny when you was trying to bring the trolley down the towpath nightmare but I guess you have got to laugh.
Have a fantastic week see you next week.
Lovely Steve H boat 🚢 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Debbie, yes that towpath was a challenge lol, but this weather has been crazy hasn’t it! Like you say, you have to laugh 😆 Martin loves Steve Hudson boats! See you next week, thank you Debbie! xx
37 years? Poor Martin! 😝😂 #ParoleOverdue!! 🤣 Seriously though, congratulations! And Julie, never apologise for yer humour, it's great! Even if it is as filthy as Martins!! 😁xx
Haha, yes 37 years, we both deserve a medal lol 😂 Our sense of humour is a bit warped 🤣 Thanks Doc xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB A bit warped? 🤔 Can't say I've noticed! 😂😂🤥 xx

Hi Lee, lovely to hear from you, hope you’re well! xx
Enjoyed the vlog, laughed at the innuendos and the great banter. Lovely drone views. 🎉Happy Anniversary 🎉
Hi Donna, hope you’re well. Aww thank you so much, I’m still learning with the drone but getting there. Thank you! xx
Hi guys. Great vlog.We do like those Ariel views, can see so so far. Happy Anniversary to you both.We love you.Until next week xxx
Hi Glen, thank you so much, really pleased you are enjoying our videos! Thanks Glenn! xx
We have a share boat so just dipping our toes in ....I do my rope the same way
Hiya! Ooh that’s lovely, we may see you out on the cut one day! Makes sense with the rope doesn’t it 👍 Thank you! xx
Lovely to see a BCBM boat (Breaking Dawn). I’m always looking out for them. My parents boat was part of their fleet of syndicate ownerships and was built at Hillmorton. We were at Wigrams for a couple of years. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary 🎉
Awesome drone shots. Fun to see you chasing the cloud shadows. That wide beam wouldn’t have got too far up the GU/Oxford canal as I’m pretty sure the locks change to the single chamber type 🤔
Great to Caroline and Pete. I follow them too.
🇦🇺🫶🏻🇬🇧
Hi Alex, we have passed this boat a few times, each time with different people onboard! Thank you for the good wishes and compliment on my drone footage, I’m still learning! You right about the widebeam, it was only going up as far as the marina, as after that you have the Hillmorton locks and they are narrow beam locks. 👍
Aww it’s lovely that you watch our friends Caroline & Pete too. Thanks Alex xx
I am retiring in 2 years and thinking about buying a narrow boat and cruising the canals spring to fall returning to Canada in the winter. I have to say watching these videos and seeing rain rain rain tells me be prepared.lol Cheers 👍😀
Absolutely! Honestly, these last 6 months or so have just been constant rain, high winds and named storms, hopefully the weather will break soon, we have everything crossed! 🤞Thanks Scott! xx
It's not always this bad. Some winters are short and quite mild - although windy!
@@jillosler9353 yes, you’re right, it’s not been necessarily cold this winter has it xx
Great video, love Ur banter, you do make me laugh! Xx
Hi Kerry, thank you, so pleased you enjoyed it, we do have a silly sense of humour sometimes lol. Thanks! xx
Lovely vlog again, we get it sunshine in the morning rain and wind in the afternoon!!! Typical British weather 😂 can't wait till tomorrow I get to spend 4 days on Sarah Kay!!!! Mike only wants me to do the locks 😂😂😂😂 I have taken one of your ideas and have yet to share it with Mike!!!! If he does not like it tough, I will use it instead. Kind regards Alison and Mike Narrowboat Sarah kay ❤️ 😊
Hi Alison, yes this weather is crazy isn’t it! Enjoy your 4 days on Sarah Kay, I’m intrigued to know which idea you are going to use 🤔🤣 Fingers crossed the weather is kind for you too xx
Ps, Martin the Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time favourate films, I can watch it over and over again and never get board. I also love the Green Mile. Mike does not do films!!!! ❤❤❤❤ well James Bond and War Films!!!
We also love both of those films too, hope we get to meet soon! Thanks Alison! xx
Would've been great to see the giant mole😂😂😂
Hahahaha 😂😝 that’s my silly sense of humour lol, thanks Sally! xx

@@pamradbourne922 aww and it’s lovely to have you with us! Thank you xx
Happy anniversary, thank you for your lovely vlogs, I really enjoy them x
Hi Allison, thank you so much, that’s so nice to know, thank you! xx
For the never narrow boaters: What is winding? Wing blows, narrow boat goes, but where?
Hi Greg, sorry, winding is the term used for turning a boat around. There are designated places along the canals for you to turn a narrowboat, they are called ‘winding holes’. The term winding is because you use the wind to help you turn the boat, you Keats turn with the wind. Hope that makes sense, thanks Greg! xx
Happy belated Anniversary you two kids 🥳🥳
Aww thank you so much! xx
I really want to spend a couple of weeks following you in my own narrow boat. ALAS! It will likely never happen. 😢😢😢
Aww never say never, no-one knows what the future holds, perhaps start with a narrowboat holiday! Thank you Greg! xx
This is why we love Britain, nobody gets the weather we do, hailstones and howling gales followed by sunshine and rainbows, but that is why we love our country, it is an amazing place, once again many thanks for sharing your journey with us and showing us the beautiful scenery and countryside that we have ❤❤
Hi Nigel, yes our weather is certainly unique for sure! Never a dull moment, and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! Thank you Nigel! xx
Another beautiful voyage on the canals! Looks like you're weather is similar to what we've been having here in Washington State eastern side. Just today, gusty winds and a little rain. Tree pollen is bad right now! Looking forward to another video!
Hi Joyce, the weather is certainly crazy at the moment, we can have three seasons in a day lol, can’t believe we’re into May and still no warm weather yet, fingers crossed the weather breaks soon 😃 Thank you for your lovely comment, we really appreciate it. Thank you Joyce! xx
Congratulations on your anniversary. We had our 37th in January. Well, like they say, you're only as young as you feel... I mean, you're only as old as you act. I may grow old, but I'll never grow up! lol.
Hi Roger, congratulations to you too! Lol, don’t think Martin will ever grow up! 😂Thanks Roger xx
My mate is in the marina , John on Tagine Queen
Spent some time with them on their narrowboat
Had many times at bridge 103
Hi Edward, it’s a lovely stretch of canal, lovely moorings, maybe we’ll see you out on the cut one day. Thanks! xx

Hi Edward, thank you, hope you are too! xx 😘
What a lovely video crazy weather but that's the uk for you yes Martin is definitely a mail tart haha 😂 I have one of those trolleys for magnet fishing so handy take care both of you xx 😊
Hi David, lol re Martin, he does make me laugh. We’ve just had to change our trolley, those thin wheels just couldn’t cope with muddy towpaths 😝This weather has been mad hasn’t it, really hoping it’s going to break soon! Thanks David! xx
Happy Anniversary, you love birds! 🎊 🎉 🦜 🦜 Such beautiful drone footage! You really make me want to go and spend time in rural England, though I’d go prepared for varied weather. It’s about to get really hot here in Arkansas.
Hi Ann, didn’t realise you were in Arkansas, wow it still amazes us that people are watching our little videos from so far away! The English countryside is beautiful, but yes, you need clothes for all seasons lol. Thank you Ann! xx

Hi julie and Martin ive just started watching your videos and i love watching at night before bed time im a full time carer for my partner james and he enjoys your films as well its amazing steering a boat your size through tunnels bridges aquaducts and turning the boat to its so enjoyable, i have a question if you can answer when you are not fit enough as you get older to do locks etc then would you give this up and stay with your family was just wondering id love to go on a cruise to see how it's all done but I'll just have to keep watching from coatbridge in Scotland pity our canal isn't long enough to go to Glasgow it would be great anyway tcxx june and James's and duke the dog
Hi June, thank you so much, it’s lovely to hear that you are both enjoying our little videos! There are some lovely canals in Scotland, we would love to go to see the Kelpies and go on the Falkirk Wheel, have you been? There may be boat trips that you could go on there, you’ll have to let us know! Thank you so much for watching June, James & Duke! xx
We Americans have a different meaning for “hooters.”
Lol, that mad us chuckle 🤭 Got to be careful how we use the word horn too lol 😂 Thanks Greg!xx
How far did you need to walk to get to the store for shopping?
Hiya! We had the Tesco shopping delivered to the car park by the bridge nearest to us. So we only had about 200 yards to walk. As long as you have a postcode, you can have the shopping delivered anywhere. Thank you! xx
Great blog guys just think you could have got less for mass murder lol I can truly say I never seen such happy husband and wife still in love and always laughing by now they do want to kill each other yes nice to hear birds after six months off rain that the trouble with wide beams sorry don't like them and I sure boaters are deaf how can you not hear Martin horn I bet you can hear that a mile away have a good week guys
Hi Nicholas, lovely to hear from you! Aww we did ok didn’t we, 37 years and counting! 😃 Lol re Martin’s horn, it’s surprising just how many boaters don’t hoot back, bonkers eh! Thanks Nicholas! xx
