When are the hosts going to learn if someone calls to complain about someone there is a 50% chance the caller is in the wrong. He isn’t in debt to his kids, he didnt lie, he’s not a coward, she said the loans are in the kids names and the dad co-signed them. She’s not speaking to the kids and wants a divorce because he co-signed their loans when they were 18? I hope he hears this and gets out of this relationship she sounds like a monster.

Did she sell it and roll the proceeds into their marital assets? The credit card debt sounds like it was mostly incurred after marriage. Is she responsible for half of that if they divorce? She certainly sounds angry at life but hard to say if it's justified

I get the sense she makes dang near nothing or has stopped working after marrying this guy otherwise she would list what she's paid into the marriage, not just the house she got pre marriage while single for 23 years.

E.g. one of my debts has 1.75 percent interest. I hope it lasts forever. I will never pay more than minimum on it because it's lower than inflation rate. It's the lenders losing out on opportunity costs by me slow rolling them.
I think you and others might think differently because Dave Ramsey and his crew gear their advice towards those who can't control debt and use it to their advantage. Some people can.

Yeah lots of people save nothing for their kids college but take out loans late in life to push them to enroll in university. For a lot of Americans they think they failed as parents if their kids don’t get a degree.
For me I have been saving over $500 a month for each kid’s college. It’s not easy rn but I’ll be able to retire without student debt.

@@flashthecorgi2053 I wouldn't have counted those student loans as debt either. He has investments of equal value to back them and they gain value at a higher rate than the interest on the loans. If the loans are at 3% and his stocks gain 10%, he's getting 7% per year in growth for free by using the loans instead of selling assets to pay for his kids school in cash. She's just too Dave Ramsey blind to see that. She's mad because she thought she was getting his WHOLE income, and she doesn't like having to share with his kids.

Drowning in debt? He co-signed about $80k on his kids student loans. Not great but hardly drowning on a $170k income. Hence his 800 credit score. Could pay them off if he sells down his board game collection. He probably has a giant mortgage but he could downsize anytime he wanted to retire. His wife is just angry he is not as much of an ATM for her as his salary would have suggested.

The only way you get an 800 credit score is to use credit all the time and pay it off. It would scare me to be in a relationship with someone with an 800 credit score. I would want to know how much is debt and how it was going to be paid off. But then I'm a Ramsey listener...

This reminds me of the borderline emotional torment I went through just dating a man with kids. It’s blended family bullshit and sadly there are really no solutions to many of these problems. There’s loyalty conflicts every which way. You get super resentful and he is torn is every single direction. Sadly, I see divorce for this couple unless the caller wants to accept that his kids will probably always hold the top spot in his heart. Best case is caller can tie for top spot in his heart/decisions. Caller wants her to be top spot understandably and kids to be 3rd or 4th spot.
This is why you should try your best to keep your original family in tact. This women hates his kids!

So what if he's arbitraging his kids student loans because his investments are growing faster than the interest rate on the loans. He could pay it all off tomorrow if he wanted, but that would be stupid. If he makes 10% on his investments and the loans are only 3% interest, he's getting 7% profits by using loans instead of paying cash. Poor people who suck at money shouldn't have debt, but rich people can leverage debt to make more money.

John and Rachel’s advice, when they finally got to give it, was practical and useful: “Be a person of dignity”; have a financial separation for now; marriage therapy; “give a roadmap of what he can do to earn trust back: sell games, have hard conversations with his kids” etc.
Notice how she focuses on how much he earns, his assets, and how she isn’t a fan of his kids and his relationship.

Listen, she said Before the marriage he told her about the daughter student loans, if he told her about one, whats the incentive to lie about the other one? He likely told her, but she convinced herself she would make the kids start paying, and he wont budge. The rest was spent on her wedding. He likely had zero% interest on credit card, and sold stocks at All time highs and paid them off with profits. Dropped $200k on the house, $40k on the wedding, and she hates the kids because she "only has $900" left to spend on herself. Threatening/Thinking she's entitled to half his net worth is pretty telling of her intent in the marriage.
Anything you go into a marriage with is yours to keep in most states. She has only been married for a year, she is not entitled to anything. A judge would laugh at her.

So the new wife comes in and says to his kids " pay your own debts " when he clearly told them he would pay them...as the adult child I would be mad if she said that to me, also he came up with $200 k to her new house she now lives in...yet they had to sell it ?? this is why you sit down with a lawyer before hand and sort these financial issues up front. He's not in debt to his kids, he didn't borrow their money he agreed to pay the tuition for them as a parent. He makes $170 k a year and only has $900 left a month to live on ? doesn't add up.

So what I got from this is that she is only there for his money and he is a liar and can't be trusted. Seems like both have motives other than marriage to be together
As a man who also owns thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars of board games... there is no such thing as a million dollar board game collection. Whatever they cost retail, the resell is a fraction of that. The number of true collectibles in the hobby is tiny and even then not all that valuable. Queen's gambit is worth like $500, Chaos in the Old World $200. A large Warhammer minature collection would undoubtedly fetch more... actually, are we sure he isn't a Warhammer 40k fan?

I was on her side at first because she has made such good financial decisions and he lied. But I sense that part of the problem is that she's been single for 23 years, and has a "I" mindset, not a "we" mindset. Something about this whole call feels off. I still think the lying is horrible, and this woman has no idea what she signed up for. It's complicated. I'm not sure what I'd do in this situation. 😕
Yeah. They need counseling or a divorce. I agree with a lot of what they said. Give a plan to get back to a healthy state. And with aid of a counselor. If he can't rise to that. Then... you have some hard choices to make.

John, How could you say someone is "so full of s*it their eyes are brown" ? I grew up wih that statement addressed to me often and I was the only child of 4 that had brown eyes. My parents were divorced-other other had green eyes, my father had brown.

I would be pissed off too if he lied about his debt, etc. With that said, all she has to do is separate their finances. Don't combine it, assuming she has her own source of income and not relying on the guy to support her. Also, even if she divorced him, she doesn't have the right to his property prior to marriage, unless they've been living together for many years and they fall under common law. It's also not the children's fault he wanted to pay for their college education, regardless of whether they made the right choices with the degree they earned.

There is something very wrong with this call
That man had stocks that he could sell (I think to settle the car debt which was not much and the credit card which was 40k). So he may have plenty of assets, just no cash flow. Maybe he feels he can make more money with the stocks than the interest on student loans cost him. But it is STILL not tolerable that he lied about it. WHY ?
You always agree with the caller that their spouse is awful. In fact in minutes you can say a lot of the spouse as you knew them! You can not give advice after 3 min call I’m sorry
