    I can finally settled back to Linux Mint xfce after bouncing around having started from Linux Mint cinnamon desktop. I like xfce because I have a simple desktop that has nothing on it other than a right-click menu. That gives me quick access to the programs that I frequently use. Furthermore, I do not have a dock at the bottom and I hardly make use of the whisker menu. My main icons are up top and these are the icons that show me what programs are running and the time and my Bluetooth and system tray icons. Regarding customization, there's no right or wrong answer and everything is not one size fits all. I like the Mac type circle buttons, whereas other people might not. Again. The beauty of Linux is that you can personalize it specifically to how you want it. Some people might say this setup that you have is very busy. While some might say, it's just phenomenal. As with beauty, it is within the eye of the beholder.

    We need a color pallet, so we can mix our own colors. We need a way to change the color in the taskbar and start menu. and top bar in files. These colors are not very good.

    I like KDE more than cinnamon these days because I can make it much more simple and functional. There is too much going on the desktop here for my liking.

      @@paxalotin I guess you would have to see how I have mine laid out. Yes, its is much more simple and functional for me. Thats the point. Its so customization I can make it whatever I want.

    Just as a side note for anyone trying random extensions: Slider breaks your desktop on Linux mint!
    Other than that I loved your guide

    Can I suggest next time you do a video like this, please pick a different theme with backgrounds that are easier to see - I can hardly make out what you’re doing because of the background - other than that it’s a great video and I thank you for your time & effort!

    Ok but the first time I set up Mint Cinnamon I had lots of desklets and applets and so on, and it looked great. But then it crashed and hung and became unstable, and after one crash I had to do complete new installation. So, now I run a very lean desktop; only a couple of desklets and nothing else I don't need. Stability to me in my work is paramount. That's my experience.

      Yea overdoing it, especially if some things you add are outdated, can cause trouble. But i think its better now then few versions back (As long as you only install things that are compatible with current version of cinnamon). And agree that stability is most important for any OS

    This is a good video, but it's Linux, not "Lynux" because the guy who invented it is Finnish.

      @@nosotrosloslobosestamosreg4115 We don't talk much about GNU anymore because the general public has never known what it meant. But I know because I started with Red Hat 5 and Slackware.

    I like moving my menu search bar to just above the panel. Especially now that we can change the height of the menu, because I just don't care for it floating around on top of the menu. I have a video for this on my channel if anyone is interested. Nice video by the way.

    Way, way too busy. Too many steps. There need to be more "themes" one can simply choose from, with the ability pick a color from a color palette and appy it to that theme.

    Why arefont and icons in linux mint smaller than that in windows 10?

    • @KrystalOfComputer
      @KrystalOfComputer  5 месяцев назад

      You can change font size using font selection tool inside settings and you can change icon size as well as few other desktop settings by right clicking on the desktop and then customize, hope this helps

    Cinnamon has better desklets for system monitoring, and far more display options.

    • @KrystalOfComputer
      @KrystalOfComputer  7 месяцев назад +1

      I just wanted to show how to use and where to find desklets (and everything else I talked about) and then everyone can pick what they like the most and make their user experience unique and best for them. I personally prefer Conky when it comes to system monitoring on the desktop, but for this video i wanted to keep to built-in Cinnamon options and not 3rd party apps. I will probably make a video about Conky too at some point. Tanks for watching and commenting!

      @@KrystalOfComputerMan, I'm sorry for my rant. I'm a sucker for conky as well, but I'm not good enough to create the pieces of art you can see in r/ConkyPorn. Before conky, I had the CPU/Memory desklets, and they look fantastic. I wonder why Linux Mint still keeps dated extensions, and I think nobody cares to create new ones (sad)

    • @KrystalOfComputer

      It's ok don't worry about it, and yea there are some extensions that, i think, are not working for years at this point. It's a bit annoying they are still there, but there are also a bunch of good ones so its not that bad
