Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) - The End?

- The apparently comatose Michael Myers (George P. Wilbur) is being transferred from one hospital to another, but he wakes up when the ambulance crew talk about his surviving niece, Jamie (Danielle Harris). After slaughtering his attendants, Myers sets out to find his one living relative who is, fortunately, being cared for by a kind and resourceful foster sister named Rachel (Ellie Cornell). Meanwhile, the ever-cautious Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) remains on the killer's path.
Dr Loomis is screaming and is genuinely horrified, possibly crying. Amazing ending!
He was thinking of killing a child
@@marcosduran4169 I don’t blame him. He spend 25 years trying to kill him and when he believed he was finally dead and Jamie was the only person he was able to protect from Michael and she was turning into him.

I love Dr. Loomis’s reaction to Jamie! He’s like: “Oh Hell! Not this sh*t again!!”
Not only that, but he thinks he has lost Jamie too.
Poor guy had had to deal with Michael for 25 years at that point.
And he didn't hesitate on trying to kill Jamie
And the funny thing is Jamie was supposed to take over as the new killer though Michael had become to popular to kill off by this point though it would have been interesting to see her as the killer in other sequels
after halloween ends i want an alternative sequel to this with jamie taking over after Michael
Donald Pleasence is the highlight of every Halloween movie he appeared in. He is the only actor who could pull off such an extreme yet believable performance as the one witnessed in the final minute of this scene. Such shock, horror, and sorrow
Agreed. He was fantastic in all the halloweens he was in.
@Spike16 Exactly. He always gave such a strong, emotionally real performance in every role I've seen him in. I enjoyed his appearances more than Jamie, though they were both great. He just had this depth and complexity, and always took the role seriously, even when the script turned him into a cartoon character.
I loved that opening narration in H20. That was Tom Kane , who I know from his Star Wars and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends roles.
The actual nature of Michael always seemed unclear to me. I know it turned out to be ancient magic in that one, Rob Zombie drove home that he was a mentally ill child driven to madness by an abusive household, and the others depict him as a kid who just went crazy for unknown reasons, but I always saw him as a mystery that was never meant to be solved. I think it worked better that way.
However, I always loved how Dr. Loomis had this strong sense of responsibility towards Michael. One of the only good things about Halloween Kills is that line, "Has Michael killed again?!"
@@ScarletDusk99 A very good read from start to finish.
There are two things about the ending that I love. When Loomis says of Jamie and Rachel, "They survived this ordeal. They'll survive it's memory." It just says so much about the trauma that he went through all those years ago. So much conveyed in those lines and in Pleasance's delivery of them.
The second thing is that Loomis, despite his infirmities, is the first person up the stairs when they hear Jamie's foster mother screaming. It's a nice illustration that he's the first person to leap into action once he realizes how wrong things are going.
Go back sometime and re-watch the film. Time and again, you'll find fascinating moments with Loomis that are easy to overlook. For instance, when he's around the girls, he ALWAYS places his body between them and any potential danger. When he and the sheriff pick them up, he immediately steps back and funnels them between himself and the police car. So if Michael approached, he'd have to go through the car or HIM to get to them. Or when they arrive at the house, he's out of the car FIRST...but he's LAST to go inside the house...He makes SURE they are safe, which he can only do by waiting and entering the house LAST. Every chance he gets, he always places himself between the girls and Michael Myers. Even if he can't see him, he always assumes he could be close by, and always moves to shield Jamie and Rachel with his own body.
The horrific cry Dr. Loomis gave us will always be one of Halloweens best endings you can literally feel his stress over it
And seeing Jamie at the top of the stairs with the clown mask and bloody scissors was even more terrifying
DR. Loomis was so far gone by this time seeing Jamie holding a bloody Scissor he is willing to kill a 6 year old child... gezz Michael Myers scared him for life.
@@patrickperalta59 yeah he was and I don't even blame him lol
@@ProdMigoMucciAnt I saw a video of this movie reviewing it and the guy gave his opinion and Theory of what happen at the end.........watching the end seeing Jamie touch Michael's hand one Theory was Michael was able to transfer his energy to Jamie....which explains two things Why when the police shot him it effected him....the evil inside him was weak so the he felt the buliets.....then 2nd theory the evil tranfered to Jamie which made her kill or wound her step mother.........this is only a theory not fact....but something to explain why Michael went down so quickly......he's been shot before but always acted like Superman and never felt the bullets...... theory or not I found it interesting
@@patrickperalta59 it is interesting reason why I love these movies so many theories and they really all make sense
Best part is Meeker knocking the gun from Loomis’ hand, but then picking it up and pointing it at Jamie anyway 😆
He probably thought Michael was there, and didn't want to escalate things badly, but was shocked to fine Jamie there instead.
I really wish the franchise had gone in this direction. How interesting of an idea could it have been
Yes I agree with you, Why didn't the franchise go in this direction ?
@@matthewdepari5783 The fault was on Moustapha Akkad. He didn't deserve his unfortunate death but he did made some poor choices around Halloween.
I was under the assumption that Halloween 5 was that for years... then I finally saw it and was so pissed off
I’ve read before that was the original idea, but the powers that be didn’t want similar backlash that they got from Halloween III by excluding Michael Myers.
@@Handlethis81637 makes sense and now I think the people like the fact, he’s not human, he’s just pure evil and cannot be killed!
This ending still genuinely gave me chills. I have such a huge spot for the Halloween franchise and Dr Loomis was my favorite. That scream at the end just gave me an unexplainable feeling.
Poor Loomis. It never ends for him.
But I have to be honest, Donald Henry Pleasance or Dr Loomis's crying actually got me impressed because he actually cried for this ending.
@@Kaijufan360 Donald always did a fantastic job. The way he more or less just collapses in tears. He's so mentally exhausted after years of dealing with Michael and trying to stop him. This is devastating for Loomis.
That final shot is kind of poignant, because the angle allows you to see his shoes as he collapses in his anguish. Seeing them immediately reminds you of how he put himself through that ordeal walking miles and miles earlier in the day after his car was destroyed...at his age, and with all his past injuries...to go through such an odyssey....Loomis had already been through something that would exhaust far younger men before he ever even reached Haddonfield...and for all his exertions to lead him to THIS...Look where you will, you find more and more reasons to love and admire Loomis...as well as reason to appreciate the professionalism and craftsmanship brought to this role by Pleasance.
Jamie should've took his place being infected by his evil and gaining his power.
That was the plan funnily enough after this movie but Michael had become to popular to be killed off
@CipherRage-tp5qlOr just get rid of the Cult of Thorn which ruins Michael being evil without a motive or origin the way we like it. None of that gross inc3st r@pe and have Jaime basically become the new Michael Myers.

Jamie was freaking epic in this ending with the scissors and the menacing look
Reminiscent of her uncle in the first movie 💯
3:19 is absolutely spine tingling! Donald Pleasence sold the FUCK outta this ending!
I love how the Sheriff is just normal and nonchalant as if his daughter didn’t just get impaled to the drywall in his house with his own shotgun
Loomis' reaction makes that ending much more memorable. After everything he has faced and thinking Michael is FINALLY dead, for this to happen immediately after must have been mentally and emotionally devastating. He just collapses in tears. To basically see another Michael. Donald was so great in this role.
That ending was so. great.
Like, I thought that Michael will just return to life again but not this time! Damn this is so good, I would love to see Jamie as a killer this time!

Im a part time fan but yes halloween 1,4 and 2 were the utmost better feature than 5 and six, i liked h2o and resurrection those were pretty good too.
Its as if they didn't give Loomis actor the script for that scene and instead surprised him to get a genuine reaction
Lol frfr. Amazing
This is such a dark and heart- wrenching ending as it gives a insightful and articulate representation of how true evil wins. To this day it still gives me chills and chills. 😰😱 Did anybody just sit in complete silence and shock as you are trying to comprehend what just happened? 🤔
Top 3 best Halloween endings.
3.) Halloween H20
2.) Halloween 4
1.) Halloween (1978)
This probably wasn't the best of the early Halloween movies, but this ending definitely left an impact on me. Just a shame that this ending didn't really go anywhere, where's our movie with Jamie as the Halloween killer?
They did plan to make jamie the new killer but Michael had just become too popular to kill off
@@sexydudeuk2172 I hope they make a direct sequel to this which ignores 5 and 6, so Rachel can be alive and Jamie is in a hospital and she has been crazy over Michael
I don’t know about you, but 4 is among the best the franchise has to offer. Forget Rotten Tomatoes; this is easily Top 3.
Halloween 4 had Myers at his strongest. Michael was looking like a tank at that end shoot out scene.
I feel like this would’ve been a great end to the series. It’s so shocking, depressing, and amazing! It’s like the series would’ve ended once it went full circle
I don't even bother watching the other Halloween movies. I prefer this to be the end of the series.
I definitely feel bad for dr loomis during this ending because he had already dealt with Micheal myers back in 1978 and 1988 and he had to deal with this it’s both creepy and sad
3:20 Me, when someone plays the Rob Zombie Halloween remake for me instead of the true classic.
I don’t remember this growing up and it came on television just now. I got goosebumps at the end when the killer was the little girl.
Halloween 2 & 4 are the best ones out there!!
They both have the Halloween theme playing with Loomis on screen (he's so driven about psychiatry; like me but more manic about it).
The ending is the best horror movie ending I've ever seen. You see the impact, and feel the emotional toll this has taken on Loomis.
It's awful
0:50 wish the towns people in Kills looked this badass when facing off against Michael
Tom Tucker KILLED it in this movie
Let’s be honest, this is the best ending in the franchise.
The Halloween franchise has 3 of the best horror movie endings ever. The ending of the first, the ending of season of the witch and this one
I, for one, also love H20's ending. It wasn't scary, but it was so satisfying.
When I saw this I was so shocked, and even more so when Loomis went straight for the gun without hesitation
3:24 When U Don’t Got No More Weed Or Roaches Left 💔😭💨🍃🔥
Daniel Harris also did a phenomenal job here. Her lack of expression convinced me that Jamie is no longer there, like there's nothing left, just a blank, pale, emotionless face.
Both this and H20 have clear conclusive endings that call back to the first film. Here it plays into the idea that evil never dies and brings to mind the opening of the original while H20 has ends on Laurie's triumphant panting in contrast to Michael's in the original.
This would have been how you set up Halloween Ends not just randomly introduce a new killer
Exactly. It organically progresses the character taking the mantle of becoming the next unstoppable evil. Whereas in Halloween Ends, nobody knew Corey was gonna be the killer for most of the movie especially when the trailers and marketing lied that Michael would be stealing the show.
@@brandonspain12345 Yeah, imagine how much better Halloween Ends would have been if Corey stayed good, Laurie, Corey, and Allyson defeated Michael together, and if the film ended with Corey holding a bloody knife, wearing Michael's mask, and Laurie screaming "noooooo!" Not only would it have been a good call back to H4, but it could have started a new series of Halloween films with Corey as the killer. Such wasted opportunity.
this ending is the one that sticks with me the most. i felt so bad for loomis the first time i watched it.
It probably won't happen, but it would be amazing if the next Halloween reboot franchise is a direct sequel to H4 and has Jamie be the new Shape. Danielle Harris would definitely do it
I really would’ve enjoyed it if they made Jamie the killer. So I’m hearing news that Miramax bought back the rights of Halloween so hopefully they would continue this storyline where Jamie’s the killer with Danielle Harris reprising the role. Ellie Cornell too, it’s dumb that they killed Rachel off in the next one and gave us Tina. 🙄
This ending gave me chills as a kid
Next reboot, we continue where this one left off with Danielle Harris playing the new serial killer.
When first saw this like ooo no not her two 😱 but unfortunately the ending didn’t pay of 😒 but man when I was a kid that was great twist
The scene of the police shooting and the sheriff with the automatic shotgun firing at least 100 shots at Michael is the high point of the series and shows how invincible Michael is.
Thats the face of someone realizing that no matter what you do the evil will never die.
Halloween 4 Michael Myers got killed the most ruthless
Hes immortal he cant die
The piano theme starts… chills 🎃
The first time I saw this ending, I had trouble sleeping that night!
That ending blew my frickin mind like holly crap
I’ve always wanted to see what it would’ve been like if they did follow up on this. Have Jaimie be The Shape in the far future.
It was the plan to make her the new killer but Michael had become too popular to kill off
@@sexydudeuk2172 Apparently one of the original scripts had Jamie with telekinetic powers (a la F13 Part 7) and Michael would have the ability to multiply himself. That would've been somehow worse than what we got. And the worse thing of all, it ends the same way as H4 with Jamie killing someone and ends on a cliffhanger. Nothing moved forward from the last film. Wtf!!!

the movies should’ve ended here
@Paraone Ngatai well…the first one kinda just ended off with a cliffhanger so I think they should have still at least added a sequel
OMG
@@ShadowDante7
That is true yeah
@Paraone Ngatai it should've been just a trilogy. The second Halloween should've been this one. Have the intro be a nightmare sequence of Laurie being attacked by Michael in the hospital on Halloween night 1976. Flashforward to 1996 now Jamie is the same age as Laurie was on that night. Jamie is with foster parents because Laurie has extreme PTSD from surviving that night. Tommy and Lindsay can also play supporting roles. They can say after the ending of the first film he was bleeding out somewhere and was hospitalized and was in a coma since then. Then end it as a trilogy with grandmother strode, daughter strode, grand daughter strode all teaming up and taking him down once and for all. Ending the theme of generational trauma. The cliffhanger could be open ended with the grand daughter clutching to the knife implying that the shape has now taken a new form as her. Jamie should've been kept as a character and played by Daneel. Thought it was rather grimey that she was erased and not considered to come back. Also hate that they retconned them being related. That sibling blood rivalry was such an interesting arc.
Storyline wise for me it ended at H2 ,but sequals like 4 are cool tho
Must admit that this ending really surprised me, i thought it was Michael that somehow managed to escape because these movies are predictable as f**k.
Point for the screenwriters.
My second favorite Halloween ending after the first ending
I just can’t describe how beautifully terrifying this ending is. Definitely the best Halloween ending
One of My Favorite Endings From Halloween After The 1978 Film Ending!
Jamie as the new shape, that was a very interesting idea. Unfortunately they dropped this idea.
I know it sounds like a bit of a stretch but how cool would it have been if Trish and Tommy Jarvis were in this movie(and Jamie became good friends with Tommy) and at 2:27 we someone sneak into Jamie’s bedroom window and this mystery person still kills Jamie’s mother but now when Loomis runs upstairs he sees….JASON VORHEES!!!! And at the end Jason throws a knife with fresh blood on towards the group and it ends with us seeing the knife coming toward the audience as we hear gunshots which would mean that Halloween 5 and Friday the 13th:A New Beginning would be one big crossover film titled Jason takes Halloween:The Revenge of Michael Myers and it could end the same way The Final Friday did with Freddy Krueger’s hand showing up but this time BOTH Jason and Michael’s masks are on the ground which would’ve led to A Nightmare In Haddonfield on Friday the 13th:Freddy vs Jason vs Michael!!!! Please tell me I’m not alone when I think that’s a great idea!!!!
I love how Dr. Loomis, a man that can barely walk even with his cane, is the first one to make it to the stairs when Mrs. Carruthers starts screaming. Like, what the fuck are Sheriff Meeker and the other officer doing? Playing Grab-Ass lmao?
This is the best ending in any Halloween movie, if you say otherwise your opinion doesn’t count. And 3:21 the drop is great
What about H20

What a great ending. I can't wait to see how her new life as the successor to her uncle pans out in Halloween 5...wait, why is it called the Revenge of Michael Myers?
This all circles back to the original idea for Michael. He wasn’t trying to kill his bloodline, he was an ordinary boy that lost his mind. After all the trauma Jamie went through in this movie, she had a full blown psychotic break. The cycle continues with her… they really should have ended things here. Extremely chilling.
Imagine if Halloween 5 continued this ending instead of bring Michael back again for no reason just to introduce the Cult of Thorn stuff.

I would like to see a reboot that ignores Halloween 5 and 6 and has Jamie be therapy for years and whether or not she still sees the Boogeyman.
I bought this movie when I was 14 or 15 (I forget which one) it wasn’t until maybe last year that I finally realized Loomis sees young Michael when he looks at Jaime. I always thought he just got terrified because Michaels soul or whatever was transferred to Jaime and made her kill her stepmother
I love it when Loomis rushes to the staircase just to see something that makes him positively shit himself. It's one of those endings where the protagonist becomes the villain, too bad this ending is not canon for the next movie.
3:19 This was a fantastic ending. It was an interesting twist. It’s one of the many signs in this franchise that evil has many forms and NEVER dies.
Best Halloween ending, everything about the scene. It's Michael's niece, same costume & Loomis going through the same emotions he had with Michael.
Holy.... great acting there

Excellent movie Halloween 4
Loomis was ready to risk it all with that gun.
"Jamie Lloyd should have been the new killer in the Halloween franchise, since she's becoming the next and incarnation of Michael Myers."
(I'd would've been really cool to see.)
It was the plan but Michael had become too popular to be killed off
This movie was only made because people missed Michael too much. That would have completely ruined the franchise
@@user-hx6gs9rq7u the franchise in itself was ruined with all the unnecessary sequels and they all included him so 😒

If in a few years Blumhouse decides to make another Halloween movie, let it be a continuation of this sequel.
An excellent twist ending setting up a new movie with a new twisted killer but that was all destroyed and retconned with The Thorn plot that nearly destroyed The Halloween franchise beyond repair.
And if this was the last Halloween movie ever I would be fine with that because evil never dies it takes shape in many different forms and different people
