ENERGY SERIES: The Role of Independent Power Producers with Prince Nyati

Prince Nyati underscores the government's role in creating an enabling environment that facilitates growth and energy security in Zambia. He stresses the importance of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in achieving equilibrium in the power markets through demand and supply, fair competition, and economies of scale.
Prince Nyati notes that Zesco Limited's default on IPP commitments in 2020 has made it challenging for IPPs to raise funding, which is critical for private sector development. He emphasises that better pricing of power will, in the long term, enhance efficiencies, research and development, and subsequently trickle down to tariffs, making energy more affordable and reliable.
