Hands down this is the best breakdown for a vocal signal chain in my opinion. It also is so much easier to absorb when you actually like the vocal style -- other videos from other creators have vocals that are a bit too poppy or whiny for my taste.
Liked and subbed after watching 3 minutes of the video. I really like the way you give concise explanation of the reason for why you pick one mixing strategy or plugin instead of another one in the chain. Great work!
watching this has given me enormous confidence see me and you use the exact same chain (expect all the saturation) even the ssl eq ranges are the same hmm. good to know Im on the right track.
You could do a series of videos about all your plugin chains in every instrument. How you do it now using Black Salt Audio. Comparing your old and new (If you have one) with BSA plugins! It would be awesome! Cheers!
your mixes are the best i have heard eveeeeer...bravo. thanks god for your info's. A nice video about layering voices from just one take would be super nice!!!
Question. And what about the Vocal Bus? Like, when there are doubles, the volume on the bus will be louder than other sections. Do you throw a limiter on the Vocal Bus or something like this?
Great demonstration Jordan. Have you tried JST Gain Reduction or Howard Benson Vocals in your metal mixes? Do you use them sometimes or this is always your go to chain?
So he added a lot of high mids and highs with the eq and I think that means you could also get the same results by taking away some of the low mids. Depends on how you look at it but its about achieving a certain balance of freqs in the end. Am I wrong?
Hey guys, I'm not a pro, I just want to see if I can do metal vocals. Without a mic I'm pretty damn good, but when I try to record it sounds like crap. Is it the crappy 13 dollar mic, or that I'm using a free version of Wavepad sound editor? The program has effects AGC, dynamic range compression, high and low pass filter, EQ. But I have no idea of which ones to use, it just doesn't have that crisp quality. What are the primary effects to use to help the sou d quality for a newly like myself?
Well, the banner across your thumbnail says "MIXING SCREAMS". I'm no Rob Halford, but . . . I'd akin what you're doing is mixing someone hacking up a hairball . . . while . . . kinda' saying . . . things. So . . . yea.
@@hardcoremusicstudio 🙂 I don't know how singers like this keep from having full blown, double inguinal hernia's.😵 As always, GREAT job making this mix sound incredible Jordan-

Shoutout to Jordan for being fully transparent about founding BSA 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you for the tips, man👌 The vocalist sounded like a monster, really nice😊🤘
dude thanks for keeping it so simple, im losing my mind trying to figure this out again.
Another great video JV. If anyone watching is thinking about investing in JV's online training, I can't recommend it enough.
good to find more youtubers making good content like this. righteous \m/
Love hearing my boys Pale Hell randomly out here in a tutorial
That was really useful! Gonna try some of these plugins while tracking vocals to get a good idea of what it would sound like when it will be mixed.
Would be nice to know the vocal chain going into the DAW. I’m sure it’s being compressed before hand too
the vocals are next level
Super awesome production! Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much Jordan!
Thanks for this. Easy to follow! I had no idea what I was doing when processing screams. Was winging it but that only took me so far. 😂
Great tutorial I will definitely use it in my next music production. Thank you 🤘🤘🤘
Banging track! I wish you could show us what delays and verbs are being used. Thanks so much for sharing.
he mentioned this at the end of the video. a link appears at the top right :)
Need to build this in Waves Creatives Studio Verse. Im definitely making a personal preset for this. 😮

Nice video! Thanks. However I miss a few words about delay/reverb..
does anyone know what the name of this song is or where i can listen to it. Super cool

ok in that case check 'Sleep Token - the summoning' there you go, the latest best mix you ever heard.

Good stuff! It's similar to what I'm doing! I do like the idea of saturation before and after compression tho. Sounds great!!
Awesome, Thank you for this!!!
Thanks Jordan 🤘

Whats the song name??? is it a released song? i love it lol
I am assuming it would work for, Doom Death or Raw Black metal vocals
is there another tapehead similar plugin for other DAWs, I found the headtape is only for Pro Tools

You’re 100% correct
Somebody likes Slipknot.
the plugins are so simple for how fuckin hard it is
Killer! What's the track and artist?

Look for a used SM7B. Great for metal vocals and used from Michael Jackson to Randy Blythe of Lamb of God
I got mine for 200 used
Reminds me of Slip Knot
Question. How do you deal with masking issues in your mix?
Hmmm I don't wear a mask when mixing....
first plugin raises the volume like 10 db, bro why not set the volume first :(
I don’t think I’m the only person who’s tired of these “I’m on my period vocals”.
Oh man.... I REALLY wanted to hit 'like' but it was on 666... And I just couldnt ruin that so I thought i'd make up for it with a comment! :D
It’s funny… The girls that do these vocals, they all wear izod shirts and can’t make a peanut butter jelly sandwich
Ultra edgy lyrics.
Horrible vocals but nice mix

True... "Mixing Hairball Vocals" more appropriate.

@@JRrox822 it takes some skill and practice. there are ways to do it that don't harm your vocal chords. i've learned to do this myself.
@@Fire-Toolz I believe it. I'm amazed by vocalists like you who can do it. 👍
