Interesting. Are universities allowed to train specialists? I have the feeling that the Royal Colleges are the equivalent of a pre-industrial revolution guild. They set the standards as well as the supply and demand.
Very insightful. No the universities are not able to fully train specialists although they do offer formal education courses for some of the specialty training programs. Yes. The colleges are similar to guilds who have been granted a monopoly by society for training the respective specialists. The colleges have some control over supply. But they don't really have an ability to affect demand and need to be at least partly responsive to demand (or risk losing their monopoly status).

To answer the first no that’s not correct. Prevocational training in Australia is not part of specialty training.
Hey. Wanted to know, are imgs paid during their 1 year supervised year after which they get general registration?
Yes
Can I easily get into a hospital to do my supervised year? Or is it a struggle getting in or that?
What should I do to get a internal medicine residency training program after getting general registration and how much time it takes to get permanent residency (pr) after getting general registration?
You apply for Basic Physician Training Posts.
It’s not called internal medicine here and it’s not called residency training.
@@CareerDoctor sir , how much competitive is the basic physician training in Australia for imgs?..Does it require permanent residency?...and what are credentials required? Like CV , Experience etc..
Please Guide me sir...I am an IMG.
BPT is not overly competitive. You don’t need PR.
Sir, I am a IMG from India , Cleared Plab 1 and Plab 2...Will get full gmc registration soon.....I have a query regarding full general registration with apra and amc.
How much time you have to work to get full registration with amc after getting provisional registration and Are there any specific rotations required in different departments for getting full registration with amc and apra? Or we can just work in any department and get full registration.?
I am really confused..Please help me out.
Pls watch my videos on the competent authority pathway.
Sir, is it necessary to be PR of Australia to enter in training? How easy it is for junior doctors to get Australian citizenship? I'm an Indian doctor working in foundation year (UK) .
Thanks. Love your videos .
Thanks for the reply. I am working on a post and vlog about the PR issue. Its not necessary for every specialty.
@@CareerDoctor thanks so much for guiding us (IMGs) . I'll be waiting for that vlog.
Ur welcome 😊
@@CareerDoctor Hello! Great video and very helpful to IMGs. Please keep up the good work. I wanted know
1. If getting into surgery requires PR?
2. Could you please mention all the residency positions that requires a PR?
1. Yes
I plan on coming to Australia through the competent pathway.... After doing plab and 1 year of foundation......
I was hoping to do specialization there
How hard would it be for me to get into general surgery there?
Is the criteria the same as that of the uk?
Pretty much as hard as in the UK
Hi I am a PGY4 from the UK and I will be moving to Australia soon for HMO work. I'm keen on ENT and have looked into the training pathway. However, I've been told that it is near impossible to get into surgical training in Australia for IMGs.is this really the case?
It’s hard even for local trainees. I suggest you book a call with me.

I am cardiologist wanted to settle in Australia , which could be useful pathway for me
Getting a post as a cardiologist in Australia is extremely tough.
Sir , Which specialities are easier to get for IMGs? And are less competitive. ??
These fluctuate over time. But as a general rule. Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, General Practice and General Physicians have the most demand for IMG doctors.
@@CareerDoctor Thanks a lot for your guidance sir , Sir I wanted to know between Psychiatry and General Physicians which one out of these two specialities has the most demand for IMG Doctors. ?
Hello, if i finish two years of training in UK, will i be able to be a part of rehabilitaion medicine residency
As per my video. It’s called specialty training and you don’t go directly into it from the UK.
You would be likely to grin entry eventually.
Is pr/ citizenship reqd for psychiatry training?
No
Great
happy to help Australian Scholarships for International Students 🙏
I recently passed M.D anesthesia from India...what is the scope for me in Australia through specialist pathway?
I would generally recommend you have some specialist experience first.
Hi, i am from India, completed by ent residency now doing senior residency here..I want to apply for fellowship program in Australia. No plans to get a job in Australia, will comeback after fellowship program. How shd I go about it !?

Is there like a tuition fee that needs to be paid for specialty training
Yes. All colleges have fees for trainees. Plus for exams and other requirements.
Hi doctor, as international doctors can't take surgical training in australia, is it ok if they undergo medical school in australia, surgical training in their home country, and then apply for a surgical job in australia as an simg? Will it increase the chances of landing a job in aus? Thank you
I don’t think that will help much. If they undertake medical school in Australia then they usually have a pathway to permanent residency.
@@CareerDoctor thanks doctor!
You are welcome
How many years after internship to be a cardiologist in Australia?

and from this video it means once i clear the AMC exams i will have to apply for residency/MO jobs right? and after that is when il gain a general registration and then start speciality training?
THANKS ALOT FOR YOUR HELP.
Sir kindly reply if possible thank you
Hi I'd recommend checking out the videos about standard pathway on the channel. You are largely on the right track. Have a look through some of the other videos as well. They will likely answer your questions.
If I finished my basic specialist training in Ireland, am i eligible to do high specialist training in Australia?
What do you mean by basic specialist training?
Hello can you tell me if a registrar is the same thing as a doctor?
It’s a type of doctor. One that is in a training post.
The general hierarchy goes intern > resident > registrar > consultant
@@CareerDoctor thank you
Sir , which are the easy and less competitive speciality branches for imgs?
I’ve been through this a bit in other videos. General Practice, Psychiatry and Emergency are the best specialties to be in if you are an SIMG seeking to work in Australia.
@@CareerDoctor Sir , What about Basic Physician (internal medicine) Training , is it easy for IMGs??
Yes. That’s a relatively easy job to get into.
@@CareerDoctor Thanks a lot sir....Sir could you please guide me how to get into Basic Physician Training for IMGs....If you are from competent authority pathway from UK....
It’s a fairly simple process. If you would like my guidance then please book a call.

Hi what if i already finished internal medicine residency, will i go back as an intern when i work in Australia? Thanks in advance for your response..
It very much depends on your individual situation. I’d suggest book a call with me to clarify.
hello, I have the same problem, where you able to have an answer?
If you have completed specialist training then you are most likely looking at the specialist pathway. But it depends on the specialty and your level of experience.
I am an MBBS from India planning to give my AMC MCQ next year. How to proceed for surgery branch once I get registered in Australia?
Feel free to watch my other videos and read my blog. If you need more help then we have coaching available.
Is there any written examination that i need to pass in order to apply for specialty ?
Hello George
Most specialty training programs in Australia do not have entrance examinations. RACS has introduced (reintroduced) a General Surgical Sciences Exam that you will have to pass in order to apply for Surgical Training.
@@CareerDoctor Thank you very much!
Ur welcome
Doc i have two questions . Please if you could clear the doubts .
1: IMG's currently doing residency outside of australia ( in Switzerland)
with 3 years of experience need to take the AMC or is there any other exam for experienced Doctors?
2: After 1 year of internship , i started doing residency in emergency medicine and currently in my 3rd year so i am technically pgy4 ( 1 year of internship followed by 3 years of residency ) In my scenario what job level do i have to apply for ? Can i apply as a senior registrar ? Like you have mentioned a registrar is in a training position and i am already in a training program / doing residency in emergency medicine for three years . Do i have to repeat my residency or i can put it as do i have to start from a junior SRMO or junior registrar level even after three years of training in emergency medicine?
Kindly answer , thanks.
Hi. Yes. You have to do the AMC.
With your ED experience you might be able to apply for more Senior RMO jobs in critical care or emergency.
Hi.Is it compulsory to do advance training after completing my basic adult internal medicine training? Or I can stop at adult internal medicine and not specialize in anything else
And what degree do I get after i complete my adult internal medicine training
You have a number of options for Advanced Training. Including General Physician Training. You can’t stop at basic.
You don’t get a degree. Colleges award Fellowships. In this case. FRACP.
Is pediatrics available or challenged speciality??
It’s one of the more accessible specialties here
Can apply for dermatology training in AUS , after Fy2 from uk ?
I think if you watch this video and others you will find the answers you are looking for
Hello. Is a 2-year experience a necessity when I have passed the clinical exam ?
Not necessarily. But its generally a good idea.
Please tell me complete process after 12th
Sorry "Please tell me complete process" is not a question I choose to answer on RUclips. You may find your answers in other videos of mine or if you are needing in depth help I would suggest booking a call with me.
Thanks

Hi Dr,
I am an Australian citizen currently in medical school in the United Kingdom. I had been planning to work in Australia by the competent authority pathway in ~2023/2024. However, I would like to start working in Australia in whatever capacity as soon as possible. Upon completion of my MBBS degree (from a university accredited by the Australian board) is there any circumstance in which I would be able to do my internship in Australia? I have no prior experience working as a doctor which was stated as a loophole in one of your previous videos. Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Hi thanks for watching. Yes it's possible but highly improbable. Your best option is to complete FY1 and you will get a post here easily after that.
Can you continue working as a doctor whilst specialising or do you have to stop working to continue with your studies? e.g. can you still earn money while specialising
You get paid while you train to become a specialist.
Thanks for the video doc!! I am currently doing my General Surgery residency in India, how can I practice in Australia ?
Pls review some of my other videos, esp the ones on specialist pathway.
