Nice video Dr. Thank you. I moved to Australia 3 years ago and not working since then. Before that worked as a Dr for few years in my country. Plan to take AMC now. Does my not working for so long affect the chances of me getting any jobs in Aus even if i pass the exam?
Thanks Nitya. Recency of practice is mainly an issue when you are working as a specialist. The Medical Board does not want specialists returning to independent practice after a long gap without some initial oversight and support. That being said employers for the RMO jobs will start to think you are a bit rusty after about 3 years. So your best option is to think about doing a refresher in your original country. Even if this is just 6 months.
@@CareerDoctor thanks a lot for your reply Doc. I can't go back n practise in home country as I am a PR here with family and have moved here permanently. Anything I could do here in Australia instead?
@@nityan7489 Your PR status gives you an edge over other IMG candidates. The only other thing I can suggest is a Clinical Observership, which some hospitals offer.
Much appreciated for your video! I'm looking forward hearing from you soon! Can you make a video about positions that IMGs can occupy as their first job in Australia?
Hello Anthony! Thank you for making all the amazing videos about IMG! I am a GP graduated from Hong Kong (IMG) and I just got my FRACGP (trained in Hong Kong, as a conjoint exam recognised by Aus). I plan to apply to become a GP in Australia via the specialist pathway, then possibly perusing FRACCM. Here are my two questions:1. Does it matter if I work with a working visa or with a PR status? Other than the years that I am restricted to 19AB exemption? 2. Am I eligible to apply for some hospital residency (non-training intention) just to get myself familiarise with the Australian Medical system? Thanks for giving tips for IMG.
Hello the visa should not matter. There are plenty of schemes around to give rural GOs hospital experience. I suggest contacting the Rural Doctirs Network.
Hi there, great videos . I have a master's is OBGYN and fellowship in minimal invasive surgery, and finished my first part MRCOG. Kindly guide me to job prospects in Australia
Thanks a lot for the video. I am wondering whether an MBBS doctor with 8 years of OVERSEAS working experience as "MEDICAL OFFICER" but WITHOUT passing AMC exam , will have POINTS for their "overseas work-years" in skill - assessment process for PR or not ?
I'd recommend discussing this with a registered migration agent. There's little point migrating as a doctor to Australia if you don't have the AMC Part 1 or a specialist qualification as you won't be able to get registered. So no employer will interview you.
Hi Anthony. I am an anesthetist working in Qatar. I am following you since last 1 year. Do you think that ANZCA board is offering very less job to IMG anesthetist ?
Thanks Dr. Anthony for your reply. I am preparing for the interview, I am expecting good number of clinical questions. Can you suggest me with your advice that surely going to help me in the interview. Thanks
@Atheist. Qatar has very good salaries for all doctors especially in Government Hospital. Not only that, there are many added benefits like two way Business class tickets, school fees, villa accommodation, tax free nation, many allowances for transport, light , electricity, phone and huge overtime.
Hi thanks for your video! In your video, you said to look out for hospitals looking for IMGs and the peak recruitment period, where hospitals would be looking for IMGs for next yr to fill up gaps left by the annual recruitment cycle. Does that mean we contact the hosp directly to secure a job offer, then only proceed with the annual recruitment cycle once it's opened(preparing docs, referee, resume, etc) or does this follow another pathway? Apologies if this has been answered in previous vids.
What are the pitfalls you've seen in IMG's transitioning to Australia from their home country and what would you recommend IMG's to do to increase their likelyhood of getting a job in Australia excluding doing internship in their own country i.e additional courses such as ACLS, no. of years as a medical officer post internship in their own country. I'd highly appreciate it if you answer these. Thank you!!
Thank you for the video. I'm a medical oncologist in France, worked for 2 years as a specialised practitionner here. I'm looking to work in Australia and will get PR through family and spouse. Could you please advise ? Thank you so much.
Hi you are confusing the two terms they are not the same thing. It’s hard to find reference to AON posts these days. many are choosing to do college assessment and then apply for senior trainee or junior consultant roles.
Doctor, thanks in advance. Im wondering how hard is it to get into a paediatric trainee in Aus after the Amc mcq and rotations? Too many unacredited years to count on? Im currently halfway through med school (brazil) and planning on moving to Australia after finishing it.. So the standard pathway suits me better
@@CareerDoctor Doctor, for recent graduates, are RMO/HMO jobs too hard do find? And without the clinical skills test? Are options with the WBA available to low, or it’s likely to get? Thanks a lot
Hello Dr. Anthony, a huge thumbs up and a thank you for all the videos you have uploaded. Simply awesome! I have a question to ask you. As per your experience, do you think it is a good idea to get the help of a Job recruitment agency/figure, as oppose to individually applying through sites like SEEK, INDEED etc.?? And are there any recruiting agencies you would recommend?? Thank you.
Hi it really depends on your personal situation. Most IMGs unfortunately are not in a position where they are highly in demand. So the option of a recruitment agency really isn't open to them.
Thanks a lot for the explanation. I have a question. I want to apply for a medical job in Australia but I do not Know if my certificate and experience are enough to get a job. I have the OET certificate and the MRCP ( UK) and The Specialty certificate of Nephrology in addition to 22 years experience in the field of Nephrology and kidney transplantation.
thanks am assuming you mean certificate of completion of specialist training from UK. If that is the case you are likely able to apply for specialist recognition with the RACP here and look at applying for Area of Need posts. Connecting with one or two recruitment agents in Australia will probably be useful (and won't cost you anything). If you are looking for recommendations please send me an email (located on the About page of channel) 😃

I found so useful this video, many thanks doctor!! I am a Paediatrician, from Mexico city, living in Australia, currently looking for my speciality validation in Australia, I have heard though that it is easier to do the validation through the standard pathway, because only few countries result comparable to the Australian programs for medical specialities, I would really appreciate your insight, thanks in advance.
Hello Dr. I want to become a pathologist and I would like to do it in Australia but I was searching and reading some information about the process and I read that I need to have an MBBS or equivalent qualification registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) have completed two years clinical work after graduating in medicine And my question is this is the only way so I have to work as a GP for two years before I get into the residencey or specialty training?
Hi Anthony . Does age of a doctor matters for giving AMC examination . E.g. above 45 and work there as an IMG doctor or its just an assessment point in skilled migration program as any doctor of any age from any country wirh approved medical college can do AMC and work there .
Excuse me doctor, Could you tell me if I have two years in training in USA of medical residency , could be easier to get a position in Australia to finish my training in Australia? for example if the US´s training didn´t like me and I wanted to continue my certification in Australia to work there after that... .... Is the same by specialties like anesthesiology?
Hello Jesus. Perhaps check out my video on competent authority. It seems like you might be eligible to apply via that pathway. I'm not sure what you mean by "the US training didn't like me". But employers do do reference checks here. So this might be an issue for you.

Hi Dr, really helpful video. I need a guidance for my settlement in Australia. I graduated my MBBS (bachelors in medicine and bachelors is surgery) from China on 2017, though I completed my studies in medicine, I'm losing my knowledge in this sector, should I study pre-med for clinical career in Australia? or should I choose a non-clinical study? (which is good for me to get a PR and a job)(which non-clinical study is better option for me? as later I would want to concentrate in jobs which are of business prospect in medical career.) Please, thank you .
Hi Obaidur that’s an interesting question. If you are thinking of working as any type of doctor in Australia you really should continue your clinical work and training.
Yes. You can apply for a study visa to come over here and enrol in courses such as postgraduate courses of which there are many. Many doctors use this to prepare and sit the AMC exams. However, the actual postgraduate courses are not particularly useful for getting a job or getting into training.
I'm a medical doctor done postgraduate degree from China. I'm planning to come to Australia for residency. What is the procedure for applying for the same. Thanks sir
Hi Doctor! This video was very informative and quite helpful to be honest. I’m an IMG from Sri Lanka and I graduated 2 years ago from Tianjin Medical university China. I completed my internship and got my license in srilanka Lanka as well. Then I practiced for about an year before migrating to Australia this year. I’ve completed my part 1 and is planning to sit for my part 2 next April (2020). Could you please advice me on how to proceed and what to do while I prepare for my part 2?
Sir hope you are fine and doing good...I cleared my plab part one and two and taken full gmc registration..also has one year experience in uk as a junior doctor...could I persue my specialization from Australia without AMC test?
How does a Canadian trained family physician get a GP job in urban Australia? would it be thru locums website? Any one in particular u recommend? Or Is it better to come through PR application? Also if doing locums to start what about malpractice insurance?
Hi Shashank you would probably have to work in a District of Workforce Shortage but there are plenty of those in the metropolitan areas. Because general practice clinics are small versus the hospitals you may find it difficult to connect directly with an employer so yes contacting a medical recruitment agency may make sense for you. I have listed several here - advancemed.com.au/internationaldoctors/ You would probably not be doing locums to start off with. But regardless yes you would likely need your own medical defence insurance prior to starting. There are many options for this and its reasonably affordable here.
Thank you for the informative video. I am a senior registrar in Neurosurgery here in South Africa. Do you have any links that you might refer me to if I consider working in Australia.

Hi Angelo I have had other similar questions like this. I strongly suggest doing one or two years as a doctor in your own country first. You can begin prepping for the AMC part 1 during this time.
Career Doctor ok, do you recommend me do subinternship in Australia, during this year that I’m until in the university? And Do you know, how can I apply for that?
Hi Angelo I think you are talking about doing an elective here whilst still in University. Yes. That is possible. It is generally easier if your institution has a formal arrangement with an institution or hospital in Australia. The clinical placements here are overwhelmed in most locations so it can be difficult to organise your own placement.

Great video! I'm thinking to move there once I finish my course. I have a question though... once I get full registration, could I apply to a medical residency after I work as a GP for two years? If so... Do I get paid when training? how does medical residency work there?
Hi Patricio thanks for the question. If you are thinking GP its probably better to get at least 3 years experience and do a GP qualification if possible. Hi Kiba . You probably have enough experience so that once you complete your AMC 1 you could start to look for jobs here. Its a double-edge sword as to whether you should come to Australia or stay in your home country and continue with the Part 2. For some it works out well to come here so they can interview for jobs in person. But many will come and find after 2 years they still don't have a job and then go back to their country to gain more experience. Re the Visa I'd suggest you watch some of the videos by my colleague ruclips.net/channel/UCJ6JC5JVFLyovNgKhM8PmPA

With the help of the community here I hope to be able to grow to the point of being able to do more than one video per week. Thanks again.

And you're helping me with that, thanks.
@Manav, I assume you are pursuing MD Internal Medicine in India? From personal experience, this is not equivalent to an Australian FRACP general physician. General physicians in Australia must complete internship, 3 years of basic physician training and 3 years of advanced general medicine training (total 7 years). A three year MD from India most would only be equivalent to RACP basic physician training and hence not make you eligible for the IMG specialist pathway. Once moving to Australia, you would still have to go via AMC standard route to obtain general registration, complete the RACP exams. The only way to be assessed as comparable to a FRACP physician by RACP specialist IMG pathway would be to complete super-specialty DM in India. As the MD/DM combo is more comparable to the duration and depth of training we have in specialist physicians in Australia.
@@tomsun3163 My residency hasn't started yet. In india general physician training is for a duration of 4.5 years + 1year internship + 3 year residency in a speciality, thus making a total of 8.5 years, just to complete MD. Still not eligible for specialist pathway?
I am not an expert in the topic, but I am talking from previous experience. Physician training in Australia takes 7 years AFTER medical school. Most of my Indian colleagues did only their MD in India, had to complete RACP Australian advanced training (3 year) in a physician specialty (general medicine, neuro, cardiology, endo, etc.) even after doing the MRCP. I probably should not have said you are not 'eligible' for the RACP specialist pathway. Any IMG from any country can apply for the specialist pathway, but there is a possibility that you will be assessed as 'not comparable,' and hence will need to do AMC exams. RACP specialist pathway outcomes are determined on a case by case basis after looking at a combinations of your qualifications, experience and clinical skills.

That's a very good question. Assuming you mean in Australia I would really recommend any position that enables you to work in a team in Australia and communicate with both clients/customers and team members. If you can get one in a para-health related area, such as nursing home assistant or pathology technician this is a bonus. But really any work is good. Be conscious of not seeing this as a stepping stone but an opportunity to develop new skills.

Sorry not sure I get your question?
Is it very difficult these days to find the job for IMGs anesthetist after undergoing the training and clearing oral exam?
Hi Mohammed I haven’t had a lot of experience with direct placement of anaesthetists. I’d say reasonably hard.
Hi you should always have a range of strategies, including direct contact and applying for appropriate jobs.
@@CareerDoctor Great, thanks for your reply!
Thanks a lot for this, very helpful. Keep the great videos coming!!!
Thanks Derran anything particular you would like me to cover?
What are the pitfalls you've seen in IMG's transitioning to Australia from their home country and what would you recommend IMG's to do to increase their likelyhood of getting a job in Australia excluding doing internship in their own country i.e additional courses such as ACLS, no. of years as a medical officer post internship in their own country. I'd highly appreciate it if you answer these. Thank you!!
Hi Anthony, as an IMG I think etic question are challenging for all of IMGs. It would be great if you prepare a video about that.

For specialist AON pathway in DWS locations, is it possible to secure a Employer sponsored job? If yes, where one need to search for?
Hi you are confusing the two terms they are not the same thing. It’s hard to find reference to AON posts these days. many are choosing to do college assessment and then apply for senior trainee or junior consultant roles.
Very useful infomation. Thank you so much sir

Im wondering how hard is it to get into a paediatric trainee in Aus after the Amc mcq and rotations? Too many unacredited years to count on?

I have the OET certificate and the MRCP ( UK) and The Specialty certificate of Nephrology
in addition to 22 years experience in the field of Nephrology and kidney transplantation.
thanks am assuming you mean certificate of completion of specialist training from UK.
@@CareerDoctor
SCE Nephrology is a certificate without training but certificate of completion of training certificate is a training certificate during work in the UK.
Sorry not sure what you mean there?
@@CareerDoctor it means he worked as a non training registra in the UK, fulfilled his competencies and then passed the exit exams to CCT but did it without being on a training scheme. Ie worked as a staff grade /locum and did the exams etc off his own back.
He has CCT and will be a consultant.

Hi check out the videos about the standard pathway
I found so useful this video, many thanks doctor!!
I am a Paediatrician, from Mexico city, living in Australia, currently looking for my speciality validation in Australia, I have heard though that it is easier to do the validation through the standard pathway, because only few countries result comparable to the Australian programs for medical specialities, I would really appreciate your insight, thanks in advance.
Hi Ady the standard pathway is only for general registration. So no its actually far harder for a specialist to go via this route.
Good luck Ady...
Hello!

Im planning on the standard pathway and then training in paediatrics in Australia.

Hello Dr. I want to become a pathologist and I would like to do it in Australia but I was searching and reading some information about the process and I read that I need to have an MBBS or equivalent qualification

And my question is this is the only way so I have to work as a GP for two years before I get into the residencey or specialty training?
Sorry your question got flagged as spam. I'm assuming you have done an MD instead which is equivalent to MBBS
Hi Anthony . Does age of a doctor matters for giving AMC examination . E.g. above 45 and work there as an IMG doctor or its just an assessment point in skilled migration program as any doctor of any age from any country wirh approved medical college can do AMC and work there .
There is not age limit to sit the exams or to apply for a temporary visa.

Yes.

I plan on watching each and every video on this channel, that way I'll have a idea about what I've to work on, because I know where I wanna go, but I've zero idea about how to get there.

I am a medical graduate from india . i am here in Australia and doing my masters of Public health here.
I have experience of 6 months in India.
what are the chances of mine getting a job here after passing both my exams.
Standard pathway is always tough. It’s too hard to say beyond that. I’d recommend you book a coaching session if you want detailed advice.
Is it possible for someone from Zambia to get a job in Australia?
It’s possible from any country
Thanks man
Is medical internship considered as experience ?
Yes
Respected Sir,
I really appreciate your works and the content of your videos. I have a few questions and would really appreciate it if you could reply. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate medical studies( MBBS) in India. I have clear cut long term goals that I desire to become a neurosurgeon and would love to study and then work in Australia. I would really love to do my post graduate medical education from Australia, preferably FRACS. Could you tell me about the procedure I need to follow to make dreams a reality? Any information you could provide me with will be really appreciated.
Thank you,
Have a great day.
Hello you are in the right place. Have a look through the videos about standard pathway and specialist pathway. Then hop over to my blog advancemed.com.au

doctor can i work in any hospital in uk up for a year or do we have to work in Australia specific hospital is there something like that ?? Pls guide and also after work in uk for a year i want a job as RMO in australia is that possible to get after working in uk??
Hi Wasi go and have a watch of my competent authority video
Do you have any tips on IMG non doctor jobs while waiting to passing their exams
Thanks for this video Sir. I am working as a respiratory specialist in India. I would like to know which pathway is better for me to get a job in Australia?
