Fun fact: The photo of exploding 50 Tons of illegal seized drugs on national TV is just pure comedy. What is interesting is that the EU countries, whose population is 10 times smaller than Iran's, import at least 50 tons of heroin every day. Then you can imagine the import of Iran for the entire country with 80 million people. So burning 50 tons of drugs is just small pocket change for Iran. Those are the real facts and the world needs to know this. I hope this comment stays for ppl to see.
Edit: The drugs, spec heroin and coca are illegal in our world just because you cannot earn money off of it by yourself alone unless you work for the Gov. or big pharma companies. Otherwise it wud be free and legal as its God given plant for everyone to use it as real natural medicine. The demand is high bcz they put the price on it for their own benefit and your suffering. By natural law no drug should be illegal and the Governments and Corps world wide will never allow that to happen, now you know why!

If torture and death don't work, it shows you just how powerful opioid addiction is ... I remember when I was using, I was afraid of getting arrested and going through withdrawal, so I'd keep a stash I could quickly access in case I got pulled over. I'd even lock my doors just so if a cop came up unexpectedly, I could still have time to ingest them. I don't know if I agree that it's a disease, but at the very least it's a huge problem.

Nice episode. I’m living on northwest Iran, Tabriz, near the Turkish border, and it is definitely true that the opioid crisis has been a major problem for at least 20 years. You can find most kinds of narcotics, within an hour or two, if you’re familiar with the drug market of city. And also illegal alcohol 🍺 as much as you want, which is much riskier than legal alcohol, because you frankly don’t know the production process. I hope things change soon, cause I want my city back. First of all kudos to the VICE team fro making such a comprehensive YT video about the subject, but as a guy who lives in Iran, I'm gonna tell you the drug trafficking operations ran by the IRGC and the goal behind it goes deeper than what you covered in the video.
First: it is a huge source of income for the IRGC wether the drugs being trafficked to the neighboring countries or sold on Iran's domestic drug markets.
Second: The Islamic regime is using the act of controlling drug trafficking as a huge leverage to put pressure on the neighboring countries and Europe, they have always threatened other countries that if the regime wants (or in case the IR regime falls) the streets of European countries will be flooded with Heroin, opium and Crack. So they are using the control of drug trafficking as mean to insure the regime's survival.
Third: The IRGC drug trafficking operations goes way beyond Europe and Asia, in many cases IRGC has provided money, fuel, chemicals, heavy weaponry and raw materials for the South American Drug Cartels and in return IRGC uses cartel sicarios to terrorize its political critics on the US soil or any other part of the world.

When do we in the West start to realize a war on drugs, or a war on poverty, or a war on crime, etc doesn't work? Its not like we can win a war on crime & say 'the war is won! no crime will ever happen again!'
When I was in Amsterdam, most drugs are de-criminalized, and I didn't see a bunch of people walking around with needles in their arms.
The moment we make a tangible thing illegal, the demand for that thing skyrockets.

There is also the problem that the rehabilitation compulsory boot camps (many government funded) we have here are kind of unethically using the name of one certain 12 step organization, and so that causes alot of resentment in most so they steer clear of meetings. I mean when youre getting beat up or tied to a tree and hosed down with cold water, while also going through withdrawals, in the name of "Such and Such Anonymous" i think the addict mind (or any mind) would be like yeeeaaahhh if i hear that organization's name again im gonna run to the hills.

The movement they’re leading is educated, liberal, secular, raised on higher expectations, and desperate for normality: college and foreign travel, decent jobs, rule of law, access to the Apple Store, a meaningful role in politics, the freedom to say and wear whatever. They are quite unlike those who came before them; sometimes they feel more like transnational Gen Z than Iranians: they are vegans, they de-Islamicize their names, they don’t want children. I’ve often wondered what has made them so rebellious, because their ferocious character was evident well before 22-year-old Mahsa (Jina) Amini, arrested at a metro station by the morality police who enforce the dress code, died after being held in their custody on Sept. 16, setting off the most sustained uprising in the 43-year history of the Islamic Republic. The average age of arrested protesters is notably low-Iranian officials estimate as young as 15. I can only conclude that when a generation’s aspirations for freedom appear tantalizingly within reach, the more humiliating the remaining restrictions seem, and the less daunting the final stretch of resistance feels.

Clean, legalized drugs across the board in the US
The money the police spend on militarization to catch drug dealers could go towards harm reduction and treatment.
The war on drugs is over, drugs won.
      Prohibition doesn't work.

I’ve begun to change my tune towards the legalization of drugs. However, measures need to be taken if we take that route. A friend of mine is an EMP. He had a unique opinion: If someone OD’s, they get 4 services from an ambulance or Narcan from a responder. After that, they’re cut off. Let them die. I was surprised to hear that, but it also correlates to burnout first responders face. My thought process is this, after one OD, all future responses have a substantially higher bill. Insurance won’t be obligated to cover it either. This would prevent insurance rates from getting astronomically high for everyone, help prevent burnout from first responders, generate more revenue for the county through these calls, etc. Further, legalization also would lead to a decrease in fentanyl lacing everything…Legalization should only be permitted in homes or certain establishments though. Not on the streets or parks.

True, but the modern heroin boom in Iran sort of really started taking off right before the protests. I'm surprised Vice didn't talk about Iran's heroin habit months ago. In fact in recent months cocaine has started becoming big there too because of the Turkish mafia now working with cocaine a lot more and they're funneling coke now through their normal heroin networks. Turks are the main heroin supply for the petro-states of the Persian Gulf.

The duality of humanity dictate that every human on this earth have its own level of control, to remove their choice of control is to remove the freedom for humanity. Let each and everyone who do bad things stand up for what they do and allow the people who have control to have fun and enjoy life.
Religion/church and politics should not and shall not mix, its simple as that. Look in the history books and you see what happen when religion/church and politics mix.
In the end we will all die and what do you prefer? watch a wall while the paint dry your entire life or do you want some fun during your short lifetime?
