@flpben lol I have a huge tote of rejected pieces from the local college pottery class. I intend one day to make them into some kind of mosaic sidewalk but it's been a few years lol
when I’m hungry, but I’m trying to do stuff with Clay or pottery. usually what I do to stop myself from eating it I eat while I’m doing it definitely not sanitary but
This is why when you see people work with clay, they're so willing to toss a piece and start over if they mess up. I've seen this dude do it so much 😂 smashing a pot because it's a little pop sided or something. You can just turn it back into clay to use again.
In fact, all the pots we made through history never degrade causes cooked. Did we deplete the clay supply in the world? How can it ever be reused again?!
A way to imagine it is rather that the clay is 'rehydrated' with the reaction of the heat, and so theoretically to reprocess the clay it needs to be broken down much finer and exposed for longer under specific conditions to get a fast reversing of the process, like concrete reverting to sand and stone.
Hey man! Love your videos. Can I make a suggestion (maybe you’ve thought of this, if so my apologies). Have you considered rehydrating your clay when it’s still leather soft or leather hard instead of when it’s bone dry? It does take longer to slake, but it prevents you from having to work as much around airborne fine clay particles. I’m glad to see you using PPE while breaking up your clay, but it looks like you’re in a pretty enclosed space and those fine particles are going to float around in the air for hours, not just until you see them settle. Is there any way you could take the bone dry stuff outdoors while you break it up so that there’s less of it in your studio space? Just a genuine concern from an older guy who would hate to see your struggle with silicosis in your later years.
the amount of dust hes making at the moment is not enough to warrant concern, a lot of cases of silicosis come from factory settings, where the dust is totally unmanaged and all over the floor.
@thatguywhocooksgood I don't know anything about clay, nothing at all, but its heartwarming to see some concern from someone who knows their stuff about clay. Props to you
what was unfired... so it just works like air dry. you don't need to do all that, you could've just filled it with water and after a while the clay will absorb it and you can just knead it back. obviously you dump out the excess, but still. and then you don't have to wait for it to air out, because you can dump the excess once it's about where you want it to be
thank you for being on my recommended. I really needed this. especially since my entire block of clay that I have has dried to a brick and I had no idea how to soften it again. so thank you for showing me how
This is the definition of remolding. He's gone to where he would get the work completely done to achieve that desired object he wants ❤. Love from Lome Togo 🎉🎉.
Just to clarify...this only works with unfired clay. After it has been fired it breaks like glass and cannot be reconstituted
If you grind it back to a powder, its possible, but its a lot of work for little return
Fire In da kiln
I should've been reading this before I broke my vase.😓
@flpben well that's the beauty of clay, once something breaks you get to make a new one. If you glazed the vase it can be made into mosaic

@@Amira_Phoenix cooked clay also eventually returns to wet clay, but it's way more than just dissolving into water I think
A way to imagine it is rather that the clay is 'rehydrated' with the reaction of the heat, and so theoretically to reprocess the clay it needs to be broken down much finer and exposed for longer under specific conditions to get a fast reversing of the process, like concrete reverting to sand and stone.

And then fill up your bucket with the water in between the other water areas
