Scored a Huntsman TKL for 85$ on BF sale, pretty damn good board when reasonably priced. If you have 1h+ to spend on greasing all the stabs, the result is fantastic. Butter smooth now and slightly harder to initially get the key to move down, which genuinely results in no more typos. Deeper sounding too and feels like a different board, highly recommended. I used a small brush to lube the sliding rails on the upper side of the stab mechanism and of course the main 2u+ exposed stab wires and plastic clips. Had some cheap teflon+ptfe grease of medium, creamy consistency.
Even the huntsman mini is pretty good too when it's on sale, similar story with me. I got mine when it was on sale at my local best buy for $90 (they unfortunately didn't have the TE), and lubing the stabilizer wires on all the switches + the dampening on each one eliminated a lot of the rattle. Gotta say, razer's really stepping up their quality, just a shame the regular asking price when their boards are not on sale is still a bit too high to really be considered good value. That's one area I still think they need to work on.
Those switches look exactly like the Gateron optical ones. I'm pretty sure they are just rebranded Gat's. Good thing is on both of them that they have mx&clone springs. The 1mm actuation though...dealbreaker IMO.

Having been able to recently demo your top three examples, I would put the K100 slightly ahead of the Huntsman TE in terms of smoothness with the Apex Pro above them both. That being said, I'm not a fan of either Corsair's or SteelSeries' software, the latter of which was outright broken in that it would freeze my computer whenever I tried to change a color profile. While you may rightfully have issues with Razer Synapse, I've never had any major issues with it.

So far I like them. All similar priced mechanical keyboards I tried, were less good.
This was pretty helpful since my friend just bought one since I told him too, although the actuation is low, I don’t think he will notice coming from a crappy membrane
@@reav3rtm hmmm, actually I think you are right. Although I think he will get used to it. Either way I think optical linear switches are really nice for linear switches. I think hes going to like it. Ill ask if he noticed it later, and also let him try my keyboard.
Is it possible to add adjustable actuation later through a firmware update? Also, would these (or similar contacless switches) work in a regular MX style hot swappable keyboard? I am thinking about tríing out something like this, but I need the ortholinear layout which limits my options (also I have 2 perfectly good hot swappable keyboards I don't need another one).
No, the design of these switches doesn't lend itself to adjustable actuation without a redesign. And no, the sensing assembly is very different from a contact-based switch.
Well it seems Razer has actually listened to you Thomas! It seems that they made a 2nd version of their 60% keyboard, and made their linear switches 1.2mm in actuation, and the weighting has been lifted from 45g to 48g! As well, now Synapse is being phased out, as the keyboard has preset lighting configs that you can set with shortcuts that they provide on the website! They really are taking feedback into consideration!
The C3 Tangerine switches I actually found comparable in their stock form to the razer huntsman in smoothness. It has a glassy feel. I didn’t directly compare them since the huntsman was my friend’s so it may not exactly be similar. Check them out if you can.
Do you have any plans to review Cherry's new Viola switches? Even Cherry shills on RUclips say that they're scratchy but it's worth it because they're "genuine Cherry".
lol, Cherry ripped off Kailh boxes, couldnt even manage to give them a clickbar; and they are still scratchy? what a lazy complacent company they have become. The second the $600 dollar gaming chair buying PcPoseurRace stops worshipping CherryMX; they better be ready to actually try again like they did in the 1980s.
Though i dont use optical switches, for the games i play i really do enjoy hogher actuation switches and can feel a genuine difference from 2mm actuation switches and because the switch i use has a light actuation at 45g and a more medium bottom out at 70g i find them nice for typing too (i use kailh silver speed with a 1.1 mm actuation)
I wish more boards would remove their branding from the visible parts. I'm personally not keen to see advertising everytime typing. Nor would I want anybody else to know the make of my boards. Non descriptive products gain extra points, and the product details should be on the bottom.
You should really try JWK/Durock MX style switches. The MX fanboys on r/mechanicalkeyboard and r/switchmodders are convinced they are SMOOTHER than these contactless switches, and that these contactless switches are "inconsistent across the board". A video like that would def be fun). Also about the Corsair board. Since the switches are clip in, maybe you can swap the spring for 62 gram or something that suits your weight and use RO-59 dry lube so it doesn't interfere with the sensing.
I’d really like to know what you think the best mx clickies are. For those of us who do like the smaller form factor modern boards. I understand that sophisticated old battleships are very nice, but some of us have neither the desk space nor the inclination to buy into that market. Clicky is my thang, but obviously it would be nice to go beyond cherry blues or their clones. My current inclination is box whites or box jades.
4:52 An enormous amount of useful stuff is activated by Windows key commands on Win10 these days. For example Win+D to bring up the desktop, Shift+Win+S for the Snipping Tool, Win-V for the clipboard history (yes, that's right! Windows now *finally* has a *stacking clipboard* ! www.howtogeek.com/671222/how-to-enable-and-use-clipboard-history-on-windows-10/ ), Win+arrow key to resize/reposition the current window, Ctrl+Win+← or → to cycle between virtual desktops, and Win+Tab which is Alt+Tab's virtual-desktop-aware brother. If you're a Win10 user you really don't want to be trying to get by without the Windows key. Just think of it as a Super key if it makes you feel better. :P

Thomas, can you ask Wooting to send you a Wooting Two HE when it comes out? Full-sized, all-key Hall Effect keyboard with analog capability for $179.99!
He already reviewed the Wooting one, if you didn’t know, so I assume his switch review would be the same and the whole review would be similar unless Wooting changed something from the last iteration
The cable is so thick, because Corsair will soon introduce an espresso maker, that gets connected to the right of the number pad. Cable needs to be large enough to route hot water through it under high pressure.
Would I be correct in thinking the the actuation point is something that could be modified in the software-if Corsair implemented it-similar to the Wootility for the Wooting boards?
doubt it. Optical sensors are usually on-off kind of deal. Ones that can actually measure amount of light are more expensive and also make the rest of electronics more complicated (and expensive). Switch design probably needs to be changed too.
I wonder if you need anything that is more smooth than a Wooting 1 in practice and it is a hell of a lot cheaper. I like the volume control wheel though, I'd pay 10 euro extra for it in a blink.
please try second generation of razer.. they change actuation to 1.2.. actuation force 48...however their sound sample ..it sounds like they dampen it.. not sure if i like that
I hope you look at the GMMK pro when it comes out. they take stuff from the higher-end custom keyboard world and put it in a $169 keyboard (yes, i know custom keyboard world isn't for you)
Hey, chyros. I was wondering if you know of any good sources for MX mount SMK 2nd gen switches, preferably clicky, and if they would work correctly in a GMMK

*caressing my Wooting One*
I can't believe that you didn't notice that they finally got a standard bottom row!
I did, someone even already pointed it out during the unboxing video. I just don't give a shit, so I forgot to mention it :p .

Even Cherry shills on RUclips say that they're scratchy but it's worth it because they're "genuine Cherry".
lol, Cherry ripped off Kailh boxes, couldnt even manage to give them a clickbar; and they are still scratchy?
what a lazy complacent company they have become. The second the $600 dollar gaming chair buying PcPoseurRace stops worshipping CherryMX;
they better be ready to actually try again like they did in the 1980s.
@@anasevi9456 It's a sad thought but I'm sure that there are people out there that think that Kailh Box switches are a ripoff of Cherry in some way.
Huntsman TE + Tartarus V2 for life.
you can get PBT keycaps for Apex Pro
Isn't that "Next/previous track" mode kinda useless when there's already buttons for that on the right side?
Though i dont use optical switches, for the games i play i really do enjoy hogher actuation switches and can feel a genuine difference from 2mm actuation switches and because the switch i use has a light actuation at 45g and a more medium bottom out at 70g i find them nice for typing too (i use kailh silver speed with a 1.1 mm actuation)
I wish more boards would remove their branding from the visible parts. I'm personally not keen to see advertising everytime typing. Nor would I want anybody else to know the make of my boards. Non descriptive products gain extra points, and the product details should be on the bottom.
What’s so bad about visible logos? It’s it really advertising because you’ve already bought their product.
Hi There, I like to order this Keyboard I am not sure what to order Cherry MX or Optical can you help? Btw Cherry MX cost more
Why there is no sound test in this review?
I’d really like to know what you think the best mx clickies are. For those of us who do like the smaller form factor modern boards. I understand that sophisticated old battleships are very nice, but some of us have neither the desk space nor the inclination to buy into that market. Clicky is my thang, but obviously it would be nice to go beyond cherry blues or their clones. My current inclination is box whites or box jades.
Idk if that point about cost was in your currency but the huntsman te goes for 130$ normally and was actually on sale for Black Friday at 99$
I'm comparing fullsize versions at normal costs here.
Indeed! I use Win+D and Win-E all the time. Win+Arrow Key is an excellent addition to my collection. Also I should remember to use virtual desktops more...
Great review. It's nice to see the GAMER RGB OMG SO WINNING keyboard market becoming more, you know, rational over time. (Which is the exact opposite direction of the GAMER RGB OMG SO WINNING microphone market!)
Also the keyboard sounds great to me.

It does make a difference in rhythm games, but that's it. And only 1000hz is needed, anything above is overkill.
Have you checked out the gateron contactless which you can get quite cheap on placed like banggood and AliExpress
Maybe you can increase actuation distance by putting a spacer (made from piece of paper) under the switch.
I don't think they'd clip in properly anymore then.
If you've tried them, how do the gateron opticals, specifically the silvers and blacks, stack up with the rest of the opticals?
Glad to hear you’re playing tarkov. I really love that game. I play using a razer huntsman te.
Corsair has a new K60 keyboard, with Cherry's new Viola switches. Perhaps you could review those?
more hertz is cool and all but we need it way more on mice than on keyboards, also I hope you review the Lekker switch soon enough!
@@derekkim593 they made a new switch.

@Chyrosran22 any chance you've got a NeXT keyboard review coming up soon? Great work as always.
Hah, I did get one in actually! But it's not quite in as good a condition as I'd hoped xD .
could you do a review of the c3 tangerine linear switches if you can get them?
so basically, what you're saying is - someone needs to make a mutant of all of these optical full size+ keyboards
Yes. XD
I've had my K95 for a while now and have liked it but I wonder if I should consider upgrading to this when I have the money cause it looks nice, but I am worried about hitting keys to easily.
Given that these work by basically blocking light with the stem, I wonder if it's possible to clip the ends to adjust the actuation point up
What about Vortex keyboards? You can also program macros without any software on it.
Don't have any!
As a heads up, the wooting one had its price dropped to 140 dollars, making it a way more compelling buy now.
Bought it for €80 a year back. A no brainer
the strafe has those edge cutouts
honestly i have stopped paying attention to the scroll wheel altogether. i forgot it was even there till you pointed it out hahaha
Seems you would need to swap the sliders on these things to change the actuation point. Maybe someone will make those one day? I would not rely on it tho.
I don't understand why they can't run the hub and the keyboard on the same USB line.
If you want to review a very interesting keyboard the Wicked Bunny RGB is a very good keeb.
im really just waiting for the day corsair makes a number pad, when it comes i have 500 dollars ready to buy that shit out in an instant!
