Matt Smith and Paddy Considine are dishing on the long-awaited ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ in a new interview with ‘Extra’s’ Jenn Lahmers. Matt and Paddy tell us about their characters, Viserys Targaryen and Daemon Targaryen. Matt also teases Daemon’s motives, saying he isn’t a pure villain and he doesn’t actually want the Iron Throne. ‘House of the Dragon’ premieres August 21 on HBO and HBO Max.

I don’t think Viserys was boring. They say Viserys is weak, but I think he was a kind man and a good man and it’s a shame people equate that with weakness. I think he was a people pleaser, and maybe that doesn’t make for the best king but it’s better than a king that doesn’t ever please anyone at all but himself.
I don’t think Daemon wants the throne, he wanted the privilege of being the heir. That made him feel important, he’s a second son. Without that title, he didn’t have a whole lot. Daemon was the heir for 10 years and he didn’t want to give it up. Who would?
