  • Several tornadoes tore through eastern Nebraska on Friday, leaving a trail of destruction. More than 80 tornado reports came in across five states. A multi-day tornado outbreak continues Saturday with powerful storms expected from Texas to the Great Lakes.

    I live in Omaha Nebraska. I am 64 years old. We have tornados threats and sirens every season, but THAT DAY was historic! Sirens. Then stopped. Then sirens again. One threat after another after another that afternoon. The last time I lived through anything like that was the Omaha tornados of 1975 when I was 15 years old.
    The miracle in this was that there was NO LOSS of human life.

      Amazing no loss of life and thank God for that... terrifying to watch these videos. I have been through 2 tornados, 1st in 1983 in Columbus, GA, where a tornado ripped the roof off the Apt Bldg I lived in and a 2nd in 2012 in Hamilton GA where the tornado went right over my house and hit the Hamilton H.S. 5 mi away; the scariest thing is you have no idea when and where a tornado will touch down or what path it will go. Prayers to all who are faced with a natural disaster because mother nature can be relentless!!

      I am in Omaha, as well. Not far from 182nd and Dodge where the tornado hit in Bennington. My phone kept pinging for me to take shelter. I got home right in time! I’ve been in Omaha, NE 34 years and I hope and pray I never have to experience anything like this again. Happy to know you are safe! 🙏🏾 Continue to lift our community up in prayers. ❤

    Worked as a cameraman for CBS in my 20’s and I chased these damn things until one day I got too close and called it quits. Absolutely terrifying!!! Mad respect for those tornado chasers out there today doing it. Prayers go out for all the people that were in these things paths.

    Nebraskans are built different. Was gaming with my buddy when these tornados touched. I asked if he was getting off to seek shelter. His reply. “ it’s not facing my porch. Not worth my time.” 😂

      Haha it hit 10 min away from our house and when I told my husbands grandpa to come in the basement he didn’t want to lift a foot and rather watch the tornado on the news upstairs

    These things are so unpredictable, knew someone who had a large oak tree ripped out of the ground and their home just a 100 feet away didn’t even lose a shingle. Amazing and precise almost like someone is guiding it 🤔

      @@lyzziekelly concern for others. Connection with what one feels is their community. I live in an earthquake, fire and landslide state. Even if it does not hit me, I feel for my fellows. Actually I feel for anyone anywhere but there is a particular feeling when you know it could have easily happened to you.

    We are under major tornado watch right now here in TX. It's the middle of the night (about 2:30am) and the whole fam is up in case we need to take shelter. We're in rural TX with no tornado siren so we have to be vigilant tonight. These storms that hit Nebraska and Oklahoma are in TX now and causing havoc everywhere.

    You can see at the end of the video, a white car speeding for its life away before the tornado catches it and swallows it up. Stay safe.

      I live in Nebraska. I was a at work and we had to shelter for several hours, and the tornado damaged areas of my city.

      We’re used to too. As long as you have a basement and have enough supplies you’ll be fine. Eventually you get desensitization

    Crazy fact is, there were a total of 47 destructive tornadoes in NE. How I know is because I live in NE.

      Get out to shelter. If none available lie in the lowest ditch possible and cover your head. The wind tunnel can't get you if you're lower than it.

    I pray I never have to recover from my home being devestated by a tornado.. Its just a mobile home that I have lived in since 1980. Thats 44 years now and its paid for. I'm 62 now and I'm on SSDI after welding for the same company for 30 years. I have kept it up very well throughout my life and is in great shape. Its all I need til the day I die. I sleep well at night knowing no one is coming to bang on my door for a payment, telling me I have to leave, and it can't be taken from me. It's my security. I pray that God protects it..He can take my life but please don't leave me homeless.

    My husband & I spent the night at a hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska, right off I-80 back in 2001 as we drove cross country. It was scary to see this. I feel so bad for these folks.

    4 month old baby died last night in a tornado 🌪️ in sulphur. There were so many on the ground last night the forecaster didn’t know which area to focus on the map. One was down the street from me about to blocks over and changed directions last minute. Last night was awful. 😞

    This literally came through my backyard and took out my neighbors house. What a very scary thing . Creepy part was the sirens, the freight train noise, the feel of a subwoofer even though it’s a tornado, and my ears popping like I was in a Boeing 747 heading somewhere. Then when I went outside afterwards the winds were cold and hot and blowing in all different directions and I could still hear the tornado (Or at least I think I did I might have been in shock) And then it started storming again and I got pelted with hail. The neighbors are okay just shook. Luckily we had basements and tornado shelters in our neighborhood.

      Most of the tornadoes in the movie twister are actual footage. There was only one that I know of at the end when they drive the truck into the tornado where that was actually a man-made aspect, but as far as the rest of as far as I know actual footage of tornadoes from my professional storm chaser.

    My family survived a tornado while I waited working in the ER. No watches, or warnings were issued! No cell phones back then, and my husband was on the phone with me when it hit our home!

    My parents were within one mile of the world record EF-5 tornado that hit Moore Oklahoma in 1999. Wind speeds of three hundred and three miles were recorded and it was originally categorized as an EF-6, which had never been recorded before. Dad watched it from their back yard porch as it destroyed Mom's parents former house, which Mom and Dad still owned. Fortunately their tenants weren't home at the time. Dad said it was very slow moving and stayed on the ground for what seemed like forever. It actually lasted just under an hour and a half.
    Dad has experienced earthquakes in California and tornadoes in Oklahoma and he said he was more fearful of tornadoes by far.

    The Black one was beautiful, i could've watched it for hours. Yes, I understand they're beyond wild, and if I had it my way, I would adventure as a chaser. My love for tornados is equal to my I love for lions, and I know that I can only get so close in order to remain safe.

      What I might suggest is take a camera and take a web-based iPad with use the iPad to look at your radar and the camera for videoing always stay to the west side or southwest side, which is a safest point when chasing then don’t try to drive under the damn thing Give yourself a good mile maybe 2 miles from it and you’ll be fine if you’re getting into a Hale core do you want to back out because you’re getting too close and under the storm. Also make sure you have plenty of money because fuel and motels are not cheap. Also, if you want to do this, make sure you have a vehicle that runs damn good preferably a four-wheel-drive and one you don’t care if it gets the hell beat out of it because it will get held on. It will get windows and stuff busted out of it do not get the sunroof. Play cautious and if you don’t feel safe doing something, don’t also do not follow other storm chasers closely into a storm because they may be inexperienced or so highly experienced. They know how to deal with things that you don’t stuff that comes with time.
      Also one other important tool take someone with you that can watch all the way around you while you’re driving they can manipulate the equipment while you’re driving. It makes it a lot safer and a lot easier experience. You’ll want to upgrade equipment and you’ll understand the more experience you get, by doing more of it, you will learn things when you are out chasing you see storm, chaser stop someplace stop and talk to ask him for advice. They’re always willing to share , and see if you can get into free national weather service trainings as a storm spotter

      Maybe just stronger built homes and more advanced warning systems too. The amount of technology out there maybe they can find a way to predict where they'll be way sooner.
