    11:01 I live in Metro Detroit only about 10 minutes from Woodward Avenue and if the sun is out and it’s warm even remotely, every car person is out driving around. It’s the main hangout spot for my friends and I and has been since high school when we got our first cars. One of the reasons I don’t want to leave Michigan is because I’ll miss cruising Woodward with the guys all the time lol.

    Thanks for making an objective review. The PT is an icon of a bygone era of old school Detroit guys like Lee Iacooca and Maximum Bob Lutz, for all the good and bad that goes with it.
    One could do a whole show on the factory special editions that Chrysler pumped out to keep up the interest among customers without actually spending money to update the car.
    The Ron Jon Edition mentioned was an early one, however it was not the same as the factory woodie appliques that were available as a $1200 option, rather an aftermarket kit and taillights that were a dealer installed option package available to Florida buyers.
    The Dream Cruiser was a series of 5 models that started with the Aztec Gold Series 1 in 2002, it was naturally aspirated 2.4 but had the front fascia of the GT that was yet to be released.
    The 2003 GT was used as the basis for 5000 of the Burnt Orange Metallic Dream Cruiser 2, so it had a 215 hp engine in addition to the special interior featuring orange inserts in the leather seats and door panels.
    2004 saw a more subdued and limited edition Dream Cruiser Series 3 with only 1306 of the two toned Midnight Blue over Bright Silver Metallic cars produced with the GT specs and interior that had a more reserved look with dove gray inserts with embossed headrests featuring the Chrysler crest. Even the glass was tinted blue. This was a $5000 option over the price of a loaded GT before dealer gouging, which was still going on with the PT, putting them out the door with TT&L over $32,000 2004 dollars.
    The Dream Cruiser Series 4 used the 2005 GT convertible with a Deep Lava Red paint code and a special dark red canvas roof to make 1500 examples.
    The 2009 Dream Cruiser 5 was available with or without the 180 hp turbo, the GT had been dropped in 2007. It was painted a Bright Diamond White with a metallic black roof pane, wheels left over from the SRT-4, and a massively built chrome grill. Allegedly 1700 were sold.
    The Street Cruisers that filled in from 2006 to 2008 were generally loaded like a GT but without the turbo engine. The Bright Yellow 2006 Route 66 was also offered overseas in black, the 2007 Pacific Coast Highway was in Surf Blue, and the 2008 Sunset Boulevard had a nice Sunset Chrystal Burgandy color. All the Street Cruisers had badging on the tailgate and the doors calling out their special-ness.
    I could go in to the Platinum Edition, the Walter P. Chrysler Signature Edition, the Couture Edition, the Decade Edition, etc... but I doubt anyone is still reading by now.

    I want a PT Cruiser. Extend the front end, put the 350sbc I got in it, used junkyard mustang rear and front, and throw as much torque at it to try and make it do wheelies. All the cool hotrodders ones look stock on the outside and lack the hotrod look. That's probably what kept it from gaining the "cool" appeal 1930s car have now.

I stepped up to the gt model after lwards and she did burn outs at every stop, and could win agenst most mustangs and fast modern fords, i went with a style of my own based more off of a 09 dream cruiser

    I had one, paid $200 for it. Had 110K miles on it when I got it, had 171k miles on it when I gave (not sold) it to a buddy who needed a car. I never once checked the oil. Couldn't open the hatch the whole time I owned it. I did learn that if you jump them, they fly flat and land pretty smooth, so there is that.

    • @overninek5139

      @@xvaxxerx7223 Yup. It was a trashcar. I didn't expect it to last as long as it did, and eventually I got tired of it, bought something else and it sat for a bit before a friend needed a car and I gave it to him. In my teens and 20's I never paid more than $200 or so for a car. Of course back then, $200 bought something you could actually drive. I've been given three free cars. I've given five or six free cars away. I just gave away a 200K mile '97 Dodge Intrepid last year. Runs great, I see the guy driving it all the time. I just pay for AAA, and if I find something cheap as chips that drives ok, I'll grab it, drive it for a few thousand miles as a daily beater until it dies, buy another one. These days, my budget has gone up, I'll throw down $500 for something that looks like it will run for at least a year without major work. They are never pretty, but I make sure they aren't dangerous, I do have standards. You'd be shocked what you can get. 90's Buicks, Olds, Taurus. Go looking for grandmas car when grandma goes to meet god, and you can get some wicked deals. Nobody wants to drive their dead grandmother's car, and no dealer wants it, nobody else wants to buy it. Find it on Craigslist, go make an offer, if they aren't knocking, leaking or shaking, good to go for a 10/20/30,000 miles for a couple hundos. I usually have two or three heaps of shit behind the garage, ready for a battery and fresh fuel and a thrashing, so one dies, I call AAA and get towed back, throw the battery into the next one and go. I spend my money on my weekeEND cars, not on my weekDAY cars.

      Brandon Dunn don’t come out of here with that “you gotta do the work yourself hurrr” most people are watching the video on RUclips so to stop the discussion just to look up some random pic every 5 seconds really takes away from the video. There’s no excuse to not do better. This is merely constructive criticism, but hey what’s the point if we’re not all gonna be geniuses and actually make a change rather than put people down for simple requests? Did you even learn anything from this podcast?

    • @ScotSteam47
      @ScotSteam47 4 года назад +1

      @@brandonshurtugal didn't notice your comment at the time. I'm not watching these to learn information for an essay or to write a report on the subject or the video itself. I'm watching or listening for entertainment purposes. To make it a better experience having images etc show up would be beneficial. However, with the better sound design of their latest podcasts these are definately more audio and visual and that in my opinion isn't a bad thing. The intro sound fx on their Hell's Angels episodes have been great and on point.

    Thank you guys for sharing this hilarious piece of car history. I can't believe the PT Cruiser was such a hot item back in the day.

    Pt cruisers were ok. But the same transmission as the old minivans that were known for being prone to failure already. Also the bumpers were ugly, so unless you did an expensive bumper delete it looked pretty goofy, i used mine for years and loved it but i got rid of the thing before it ever needed anything major replaced @ 140xxxmi

    I think most people in the rest of the world just looked at the thing and didn't even know what the hell they were actually looking at. No matter who I talk to about cars here in germany, the Multipla and the PT Cruiser are considered the top 2 ugliest cars ever made.

    This show would be 10x better if you could put prompts on the screen of the certain colors and certain PTs you are talking about.
    Describing the packages is one thing but being able to see them would make this so much better

      Then they shouldn’t ramble over details in a pic over and over. It’s extremely irritating if you want to just get a quick glance of what they’re talking about if you’re involved with something else that requires your hands. Either they should stop talking about pictures or show them. You guys aren’t helping by justifying the fact that podcasts don’t have to be visual but here we are. Not everyone has to be like joe Rogan but if they’re gonna read from the script they should put some effort into making it smooth

    So they had a V6, Turbo 4 banger, and a V10 Viper engine, but not a V8? Weren't they trying to please hot rod loving boomers? They used everything, but what they love.

    • @matheusmoreira9951
      @matheusmoreira9951 4 года назад

      The average boomer thinks they want V8s, but they don't want it to be noisy, wanna get good milage... So they don't want V8s. The car enthusiast boomer praises V8s, but the average one? They probably don't care.
