I was actually wondering the other day if we would be more advanced or less advanced without the wars of the 1900s. We do actually already have flying cars, they're just called helicopters. That said in fourth and fifth grade I convinced three of my classmates that we were going to build a flying car. We even met three times a week to plan, budget and model. Our little venture lasted a whole marking period.
you guys havent done enough research for this episode. Flying taxis from Ehang have been in service in china for over a year now. they are starting their European service this year.
People have made road-legal flying cars since the 30s- They all go out of business, usually before they can sell a dozen units. Because, despite what the Jetsons told us, flying cars are kind of a dumb idea. Inherently expensive, dangerous as hell, a nightmare to manage and regulate, very limited practicality, and in the end, combining a car with a plane just gives you a terrible car AND a terrible plane, but more expensive than both, together. Think about this- Have you ever in your life, been in a car that shat itself on the road, and you either had to pull off to the side and fix it, or call for help? It sucks, but it's not a big deal, right? But how would that have turned out, if it had happened at 15,000ft? And, how many times have you ever seen other people pulled off to the side of the road to fix their car, in your life? So, what would happen if every single one of those instances represented two tons of metal crashing to earth at terminal velocity, in the middle of suburbia? This is just one of several reasons why flying cars (as a common, everyday thing) just won't ever happen. The problems with flying cars isn't any technological limitation- We dealt with all those, almost a century ago. The problem with flying cars is just that "flying cars" (as an everyday thing, for normal people) is just a dumb idea. There is a REASON why they've existed 80 years, and have been nothing but a super-rare, totally impractical novelty for rich eccentrics, that whole time (which won't change anytime in the future)...

there are so many rules about aircraft and who can fly them and where they can fly. Even the 'viable' ideas like drone taxis would not be able to conform to these. What's the point of a drone that's not allowed within 500ft of a person, building or road? They could never be used in cities.
7:14 Saying DaVinci's flyer doesn't work while relating it to helicopters... that doesn't work for me. Have you every seen a turbo fan or what propellers do?
flying cars is a dumb idea since planes, helicopters and large drones already exist. What would be really nice is a multi-layered rail system, but it would only make sense in super mega cities with like 500 000 000 people with only giant skyscrapers.
I think it would work if we drove and set the destination and time in the cars on board computer like it's Google map or waze. Drive to the designated take off point. Let the car fly itself like a Tesla (once they get autopilot under control) under plane lanes so we don't interfere with planes. Other than that I'm against people flying cars. 90% of Tennessee (where I live anyway) can't drive.
