Dec. 6, 2019 | Abby O'Neill -- This Freddie Gibbs and Madlib Tiny Desk performance was a year in the making, largely because Madlib insisted on playing with El Michels Affair, a vintage funk and soul band based out of New York. But it was worth the wait. When pianist Marco Benevento opened with a delicate, almost jazzy run, it created the perfect opening - and juxtaposition - for hard-hitting emcee, Gibbs to jump in and ride the hell out of that beat.
From the moment they launched into "Education," a cut off the latest MadGibbs project Bandana, it was obvious Gibbs has spent countless hours honing his style. Meanwhile, Madlib, an enigmatic and reclusive producer known for his analog head-nodders, brought along a small thunder tube and vintage electric bongos circa 1960. Just getting a chance to see him ignited excitement in the NPR crowd.
But the conclusive jam in this killer set was "Freestyle S***," a track that drips with the smoothness of satin and swagger of the seventies. It and the rest of the set elevated the room for both longtime purists and new fans alike. But the way Gibbs emphatically showed his love for Madlib was just as beautiful to witness. There's little doubt about their deep admiration and appreciation for each other. It was hands down, for me, the best Tiny Desk of the year.

8:07 The Beat Konducta.
Konducting Definition:
Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. It has been defined as "the art of directing the simultaneous performance of several players or singers by the use of gesture."[1] The primary duties of the conductor are to interpret the score in a way which reflects the specific indications in that score, set the tempo, ensure correct entries by ensemble members, and "shape" the phrasing where appropriate.[2] Conductors communicate with their musicians primarily through hand gestures, usually with the aid of a baton, and may use other gestures or signals such as eye contact.[3] A conductor usually supplements their direction with verbal instructions to their musicians in rehearsal.[3]

Mad respect to the horn players (esp. the trumpet) for managing to play that quiet and sit in the mix without overpowering anybody while still managing to retain tone. Horns naturally overpower everything else, and especially in a context that intimate and quiet, it’s hard to play like that.
The horn would of sounded fine still a bit louder.
I've always heard that horns are very difficult to play, and even more so to play well lol. My first thought when I saw this was props to them
its probably the engineer that make them sound so good
i've got problem with those horns : trumpet and saxo are both one or two comas higher than the rest of the orchestra - my ears are deeply annoyed, whatever their talent is. (sorry for my poor english skills)

How Bandana is not Grammy nominated is beyond me
the grammys just about and for idiots
conch . Gibbs won it in my eyes. Bandana kept me sane in 2019. This was one crazy year.
They lack impeccable taste.
conch The Grammies is a about which labels pays the most to see who wins in the categories, Sometimes you don't need that recognition this album going to live on for centuries.
The Grammies are a celebration of the most popular pop music which reflect record sales. The only way "good" music makes it in is if it's at least somewhat relatable to the mainstream. Gangster rap will never be in that category.
