It's expensive... but the quality, expandablity and versatilty easily exceeds 3 regular priced arcade1up cabs or 4 to 5 of them on sale. For those that don't want or have room for multiple cabs, this make sense. The closest competitor would be the ALU / ALU 4K. Those don't have direct jamma expandablility. Soooooo/. yeah, the price is ok.
I think there is alot of value in the Nova Blast. I esp appreciate the coin in and rotational screen. Its probably alittle small for me but I def appreciate what they are doing here, high quality, solid construction, great controls and sound, its a byog for sure but I bet this would last a long time. I mean people are dropping 10k on pinball machines, this really puts the polycade to shame too, especially with rotational screen and a place to put your legs under the controls unlike polycade. I look forward to the reviews and highly consider this but want to see what Atgames has for the new ALU 4K next year.
Yes but you also can sit down. It wont be so bad. I seen tall people sit down just fine. I lived overseas for quite awhile. While I haven’t seen a 6’5 person i did see people around 6 foot sit just fine. I would not recommend those chairs for you. But i would for myself. Those are sega arcade stool designed and the real ones for for about $250 each. Delusional Arcade Candy Cab Tour you will see someone who appears to be over 6foot sit down just fine. Stephen Haywood is a tall person does he own a viewlix? Or MOAT is he tall? How does he like his? I would ask them too. Oh yes and 19kfox.
A very important question to be answered is what the input latency numbers will be, particularly for shooters. That's the main reason why a lot of people still use CRT as opposed to LCD or other types of monitors.
I'm curious about this too (although I pre-ordered the thing regardless). I know their 26 inch screen is already available to buy so maybe someone has already run some tests
I was wondering the same thing and from what I can find, the monitor that is being used in this cabinet has a 1 - 1.5ms response time, which is about as close as you can get to a CRT
I like an old cabinet converted to a multi cabinet. I currently have a Joust that was converted to NBA jam 4 player in the 90s it was an excellent conversion of that game. (did it myself) I gutted all the internals and made it into a multi cabinet with all the NBA Jam graphics left in tact. I even ordered a new nba jam overlay to do the conversion. Its so much lighter without the glass monitor and transformer inside.
It will be interesting to see if this ends up being available in Canada through the Brick or Canada Computers. 🍁 I would like to see a more monochrome colour combination as an option. Traditional candy cabs are vibrant but black and silver looks killer.
I like it, but I would like it better at $999 for the cab and stand together. Going to add cost to buy in "innards" to make it work. I am in process of selling most of my Arcade1up cab, so it will help with space and funds.
This is the new slice of consumer arcade. Same price as all of the atgames pinball 4K. I am interested although I have an aforementioned recroommasters cab.
I’m going to see what this looks like in the wild and the ALU 4K. I think I’ll be more interested in the atgames product myself but I might change my mind.
If I wasn't already getting the 4k pin I'd be in for one for sure. Maybe in a year if they are still available. And double yes if I can get it in Canada directly.
too late most took them all. Only will find common PCB boards around. Unless you get lucky - having to fix the broken ones I currently have or want to spend over $1k for a good game.
@dragongamer2670 thank you for that information. I looked at tmnt after typing my comment and saw it was 4 grand. You are absolutely correct and appreciate you sharing your knowledge/experience
Being from the US, I don't really like candy cabs or Sanwa parts but I'm stoked for this. I considered getting an Astro City for my Sega NAOMI but it's just not worth the import cost for me. I must have ~50 loose arcade boards and this is basically a ready-to-go product for me. Large 4:3 display and essentially a supergun in a full-size metal form factor with good quality controls? I'm buying two! haha
People were complaining about the cost because the nova blast doesn’t carry any licensed games in order to validate them purchasing, But if they would’ve caught the “off the cuff” live stream there is vital information where they interviewed the CEO of Unico and missed an entire segment were he details what’s in store for their future. 😉
While I can afford the Nova Blast, at $1200 before tax and shipping creates zero value for a home arcade enthusiast. Zero games and licensing fees has me wondering how they came up w their price....I blame Retro Ralph when he sneak peeked it a few weeks ago and said he thinks it will go for $1K+ (Retail prices) $300 for the monitor $150 for joysticks and buttons $150 coin door $50 jamma harness $60 psu So you're paying another $500 for the cabinet?? I was so excited seeing this product coming out. Now I'm disappointed and won't preorder. After adding my Mister, buying a mister jamma mod, and buying the nova blast, I would have over $2k invested.....no thank you.
Broken down in price like this makes more sense honestly. What would you say the cab alone, in this material and at this size, should cost - after factoring tooling, manufacturing, the materials used - $500 doesn’t seem too crazy.
@@nerdloftgaming Those are retail prices that you can pay now....not what it cost Unico. The combo kit should be no more than $800-$900 So in my mind it's overpriced by 25-33% I thought A1UP Dragon's Lair and Tron were both overpriced, and I refused to buy until they went on sale. I got the Dragon's Lair for $459 and Tron for $359.
You forgot to mention speakers, speaker amp, fans, marquee lights, bezel, artwork, hardware for rotatable screen, castors, leverlers, the cost of the metal and plastic used for the construction of the unit itself, and then of course the labor. As someone who has built many arcades myself I'd say the extra $500 is pretty justified. I guess we won't fully know how good the build quality is until people start getting their hands on them though.
The Nova Blast seems pretty cool, and surprisingly well priced, but I'm going to pass on it. There's no nostalgia for me and honestly my money is already committed to the Legends 4k pinball. Plus I'm not a big fan of the look of the stand.
That's such a rip off for a metal cabinet with a cheap LCD screen. It lacks the charm of the original ones, it's just a souless replica. If those things get popular costing that, original and vintage candy cab prices will skyrocket.
Different strokes for different folks. I’ve personally had the chance to play the original ones in Japan, and I just find them “comfy”. The overall simplistic look of the cab pops when you have the games splashed on the display, and with the control deck buttons generally being colorful, the aesthetics are just fun.
I'm in on this. I'm not into the 1Up stuff, this speaks to me lol

1200$ before taxes. It’s very well constructed. I’m putting a mini computer in mine with a plug and play hard drive.

So you can get a refurbished original CRT candy cab for the same price. No reason to by the remake, then.
That's more than an import vewlix knock-off from China, and creeping up on importing a genuine Japanese candy cab. Too much.
This looks like a great unit. The stool pricing is hilarious.
The real question: Does MB take pinball money to acquire this unit?
Yeah, the stool pricing is gnarly but it’s in line with Japanese arcade stools.
