    I love Nigellas honesty and perspective. I am a pretty good cook but i used to own and run a restaurant and employed a professional chef (well several actually) and there is a world of difference cooking for a few friends and turning out 150 top quality top class meals day in day out at speed.

    You never see celebrity chefs openly criticizing the hospitality industry and its crappy wages. If jamie oliver can go lose an entire franchise and still walk away 20M pounds richer, then high end restauranteurs can pay their staff more. Running a restaurant is tough on everyone but if a restaurant owner is clever enough, they can make it work the right way without insulting their employees

    What i love about Nigella is, i love to hear her talk & how she describes everything.....like it almost makes me feel smarter & maybe expands my vocabulary. Hahaha! (i didn't realize she had been a journalist). She certainly has a grasp on language. it's so refreshing, the things she says. AND, even tho she is not a chef, (Rachel Ray isn't either) Nigella certainly has had alot of experience with food & how it 'behaves'; she knows food.....& she cooks what she likes! she has a sensitivity about flavors, textures, what tastes good together & how to create it all & presentation, & how to present it to her friends, all relaxed*! Haha! so she may even have some knowledge that some chefs don't have! OH, she's got skills, alright! i love watching her videos on RUclips.....& she's so pretty & real......she's 1 of a kind! I see she likes asian dishes, middle eastern dishes, (i will include Italian dishes in that category) & comfort foods from her past & things she has easily created; only things that SHE thinks are very good!

    30:49 The boldness of Nigella stating this is why I love her. Most Brits don't like facing the fact that empires are built on slavery and exploitation of others.

    • @frafar3781
      @frafar3781 5 лет назад +5

      I compleately disagree. Any Brits who are old enough to know there used to be a British Empire are fully aware of all the history with slavery, India and China, etc, because of the endless amount of detailed historical TV documentaries and dramas that's been made going back to the 50's. Every week there's around 5 to 10 new historical TV programs usually covering something about the days of Empire. There's no way you can grow up in the UK and shy away from it's history as it's fully exposed and ingrained in our culture. The fact is though, that British people back home in the UK had no idea what was happening overseas. They didn't know Africans were being kidnapped and enslaved for greedy profiteers, but when they eventually did find out, there was mass public outrage and protests which brought about the abolition of slavery, 60 years before the US abolished it. So the bad parts of the Empire had nothing to do with the people of Britain. Besides, the Empire didn't make Britain rich. Sure those profiteers built some big houses with the money they pocketed and the Royals got some fancy trinkets, but the Empire could Bearley afford to pay for itself. What made Britain rich and succesful was the industrial revolution. Steam power, electrical power, machines.

    • @32446
      @32446 3 года назад +1

      Most countries are built on slavery and exploiting others. Italy, Turkey and America for example. Brits are well aware of their own history. They particularly exploited their own working-class people.

    Ya know I feel cheated because I am not a foodie. I have a very unsophisticated palette and wish that I could enjoy food like everyone else. I hate fish so much. Shrimp especially. I don’t even like the smell of it. I’m happy for people who enjoy fish.
