Although Stefan is broadly demonized in the art world, he clearly has a brilliant understanding of how it works. Things are changing and he is at the forefront.
I like his attitude and agree with many of his points. One thing he fails to address is the impossible reconciliation between opening up the market to every buyer and still protect the artists work and legacy at the level only institutions or very serious collectors can do.
GDB and JB are must reads when it comes to understanding 'commodity fetish, etc., et al.' Ortega y Gasset's 'The Dehumanization of Art' is another modern classic that applies 100 years later in our 21st Century. Stefan knows his stuff. I'm more impressed by him more and more.

Baudrillard and Guy Debord are not true philosophers. Nobody takes them seriously in that arena. They are theorists--an entirely different intellectual animal. I was a professor of English for many years at an elite school. I have read those two theorists but there's no way in hell that a philosophy professor will waste her time on that stuff.
Roc Sol think of it this way. Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet’s company) & JP Morgan got together to build their own medical care company for the care of their employees collectively. Why? Because a company today is only going last as long as the wellbeing of it’s consumers and producers. Business today is just like nature. It’s an ecosystem where everyone is interdependent. Can’t sell or innovate w/o healthy workforce. Can’t hire to produce w/o educated workforce. No point in running a company if society has atrophied to the point that no one is around to innovate. Network dynamics my friend and are the future. And yea efficiency and effectiveness makes for better business. Best to control costs or it will take out margin from goods and services.

Every undergrad knows who Debord and Baudrillard are. That can't be a true anecdote.
The more I"ve learned about this guy... I think this whole thing may be some kind of a farce or "joke"

How do philosophers differ from theorists?
@@Urzukar There is an "academic" distinction/ distinction in academia.
@@taylorj6177 That doesn't really explain anything, does it?
@@Urzukar It does if you know anything about academia.
@@taylorj6177 Well, if you know the distinction, why not explain it to me?
Fake art doesn't exist, ART is ART, a picture is a picture, a sculpture is a sculpture no matter who made it and why.

Sad that you failed so hard on the audio with such a great speaker. Echo, drop outs, and bad sync. You literally couldn't have done a worse job.
be glad someone recorded it for you
Looked like it might have been like his kid filming or something, so maybe go easy on 'em ;)

Marxism and capitalism is not the same in the art world 🌎 or in general lol
The fact that you don't see that shows you're 50 years behind in regards to understanding the culture.
